They do do kids stuff but you can have smaller versions of the adults dinners if they prefer something different to their usual choice of junk food on offer. Parking is a little scary with small kids as they are on the main road through Sharnford and you have to park over the road in the village hall car park. The menu is small but vared and they have personal names for the food named after the locals like Johns Shepherds Pie etc. Even Bill 'Greengrass' Maynard has a named dish though I can't remember what it is. There is a bar area with a TV for the footy, some tables near the bar and a bigger room for dining. Also, last time I passed thety'd added a small marquee on the side though I don't know if this is permanent or just an added function tent. There is a reasonable sized beer garden for summer al frescoe dining or for the dirty unsociable smokers. Really worth a look if you're passing.

Where The Sycamores wins is the large grounds to the back where they've made every effort to make it a family friendly pub. There's a small car park, a seperate area for seating, a large grass area with trees (sycamores, believe it or not), a play area with soft bark and also a bouncy castle. When we last went in the summer, we sat on the grass and the kids went off to play and it felt very safe. The pub inside isn't massive and on a weekend night it can get pretty packed. For me it's definately the best pub in Burbage.

The new people have already made a big change. Outside they have taken away the beer garden completely and extended the car park. Next to the pub they've also had the patio/ smokers area made bigger. Having the beer garden taken away is a shame as they used to have a bouncy castle up in the summer and it was the only pub you could go as a family. Inside there is a kind of chill out room with a few comfy chairs and tables. Round into the bar which is quite thin and tends to get a bit packed. They do have another room down the end where they sometimes show sports and this is where you can retreat to get away from the live music which can be quite deafening. They do do food, which I didn't think was great but that was with the old people. It's a nice place in the centre of the village.

Perhaps out of the way for a few people but it means you get a lot of the locals in there (like myself!) which leads to a very pleasant and jovial ambience to the play. The low wooden beams and moody lighting might be the staple of this chain of pubs but don't let that put you off, this really is in the spirit of traditional old country pubs. The food is pretty good and there's a good selection of lagers bitters and ales on tap for the discerning drinker. The staff and the new management are much improved and very friendly with the punters and won't shy from a bit of joking and banter. The car park is always full, especially on Sundays when people go in for the Sunday roast which if anything is a sign of a successful establishment.

I think the locals should think themselves very lucky. My wife and I drove 400 miles from Scotland to spend 2 or 3 days there eating, drinking and enjoying the different copmany. We were not disapointed and the 800 mile round trip was well worth the time and money! The food was absolutely beautiful, as was the service, prices and the local customers. We cannot wait to return. If your are nearby or even within an hour or two of a drive, PLEASE make the effort to go and you WILL become regulars! On ordering my meal I was offered either tomato and spinach pasta or mushroom risotto. I had the pasta, which was nothing special, when my friend mentioned to the owner it was a shame that there was limited vegetarian options, we were subjected to a triad of how this is a meat eater restaurant and why should he offer vegetarian options, he was really rude and obnoxious and I was left feeling really upset and discriminated against just because I don't eat meat. The owner is really a rude man and there are obviously a lot of people taken in by his false, smarmy attitude, my friends included, but now they have seen him in his true colours. I notice that there have been several other reviewers which have the same opinion of the owner.Avo
