I've had many birthday meals here too, and the food is just amazing. The duck roast is something that I especially recommend, but for something a bit more exotic, I'd suggest trying the guinea fowl. Okay, the dishes aren't cheap, but the richness of the meat is absolutely amazing, and well worth the extra pounds. There's also some truly delicious starters such as prawn cocktail. In fact, I don't think I've ever eaten any average food here, it has always been mouthwatering; Compliments to the chef! I want seconds! In the summer, the garden at the back is a great place to grab a refreshing pint, especially when the sun is blaring. The staff here are very welcoming, and go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable, whether you're sitting inside or in the garden. I don't think there's anything bad to be said about this pub, the décor is old fashioned with wooden beams, and the atmosphere, clientele and aesthetics make the whole experience both a relaxed and enjoyable one.

This place is no longer called the Herons Nest but the Kings Arms and has really changed for the better. There are comfy sofas and armchairs, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It would be wise to book if you are thinking of coming here for something to eat, as this place is popular. I once rocked up on a Sunday afternoon, not having booked a table and was told that the food would take an hour and a half to arrive! The pub is located by the Grand Union canal, and the outside seating is popular when the sun is shining. There is ample parking too, but again the car park can get busy at the weekends. A superb place to hang out with family and friends.

The Black Boy - Battered Haddock, mush peas, and chips.....very proper pub food!

The Black Boy is steeped in so much history. It was built in 1793 and has seen two world wars. You…read moreimmediately experience the heritage when entering. There's this countryside feel contained inside, so it doesn't really seem like you are in Birmingham at all. The canals at the back are great to gaze out over in summer time, especially if you just want to relax with a pint. Inside, there's this amazing warmth that's perfect during the winter. The wooden beams and old furniture are also really captivating, and I don't think there's anything better than eating a roast dinner here and feeling cosy next to the fire. As a child, I used to love looking around at all the little models and ornaments which clutter every shelf and wall. They kept me very entertained. I absolutely adore pubs like this, and I'm so glad that there are still so many like this out there.

The food is good value particularly for a country pub and type view of the canal is very nice. Having visited recently as a group of 4 I found out how bust they can get with a sign up advising of a 45 minute wait for food, 45 minutes was closer to an hour with the staff doing little to assist customers. The quality varied depending on what you has my steak was fined fellow diners was cremated!
