Many reason why we chose this place, super affordable, and highly recommended. They also have a special menu and we got the French toast fried chicken, tasty but would prefer more maple syrup 9/10! The classic breakfast was simple and delicious. Only downside was the wait, we waited almost 1 hours on Sunday @9:30am. Bar counter might have no wait... but not 100% sure.

This is one of my go to places for take out in Hintonburg. The food is tastey and comforting. The amount is plentiful for the price. The order is always ready when they say it's ready. It's a great alternative to packing my own boring lunch when I'm working!

Cute hipster spot in Hintonburg. We were in the area and was looking for a lunch spot. Service was great. Our hostess was friendly. The prices were quite affordable and portions was just perfect. Our bellies were satisfied but also we weren't stuffed to the point where we couldn't walk afterwards. Hubby got the brisket that came with corn and a little dish of mac n cheese. I got the flatburger with a side of caesar salad, and we each got a cup of drip coffee. The mac n cheese was very cheesy and we were both very happy with our meals. We would definitely come back the next time we're in the area

Great new addition to the neighbourhood. Combination of great prices and great food. Great comfort food with a great atmosphere. I had grilled cheese and my wife had a burger. Both were great:

Would probably skip on the grilled cheese next time I go as it wasn't my favourite for the price. Cool atmosphere inside and quirky servers, which I love. Being a newcomer to Ottawa, my husband and I went into a few places on a Wednesday night to get to…read moreknow the area. When we went into 10Fourteen, the first thing I said was, "this is exactly how I would design a bar if I had one." The small venue was decorated in browns, grays, blacks and whites, with chalkboards, bubble lights, chunky mirrors, painted quotes on canvas ("Love is all you need" and others in that vein) and other funky, classy decor. It's a small place, with a long, two-piece bar, a few booths, a couple tables and a small lounge area. At 8PM on a Wednesday, there were a few other couples in there, and what looked like a larger group sitting on the couch in the "lounge." Everyone was middle aged or younger. Our helpful bartender immediately greeted us with a martini glass filled with delicious truffle, cinnamon popcorn. I ordered a Slap and Tickle, despite it being what seemed like a more wine-focused bar -- and only three beers on tap. The drink (gin, cucumber juice) was refreshing, but not strong at all. And maybe these stingy pours are just something I have to get used to up here in Canada, but there was 1 ounce of alcohol in the whole drink, despite it being served in a highball glass. Despite both of us ordering drinks, we were not given water, which is a bit of a bartender pet peeve of mine. The chalkboard menu is really hard to follow. An item example: "Glass of bacon/jack/lime/coke." Not exactly sure what that meant, but we saw "BACON" so we asked and ordered it. It was really, really good. Jack Daniels and Coke rubbed bacon (five pieces for $5), baked and served in a martini glass with a lime. Totally cool and funky (and yummy!) but wish the menu were more easily decipherable. Things were a little chaotic behind the bar, which totally contrasted with the more relaxed vibe intended at the bar. There seemed to be no POS system and the kitchen was right behind the bar with the bartenders. I'm talking people pulling food out of refrigerators, prepping it, microwaving -- the whole deal. The bright lights from the open refrigerator door made it all together too bright in the bar, killing the mood lighting, and it seemed nonsensical to set it up that way. I'm all for open-view kitchens, but maybe not as restricted as that, and not right with the bartenders trying to make drinks. All in all, I really liked the place. Cool vibe, good stuff on the menu (when you are told what it is), and really nice and helpful staff. I just wish they could live up to the potential a bit more. I'll definitely go back and adjust my rating accordingly.

A large group of us met for dinner recently at The Elmdale…read more Dinner was great, a little overpriced. Our server was amazing. We were happy -- it was a celebration. Then came the part that defies common sense. After dinner they were clearing space for a DJ. We had settled our bill. I went to order a drink at the bar and was told I had to walk to the front door to pay a $5 cover before I could buy a $10, one-ounce drink .... after I had already spent nearly $100 on dinner. When I politely asked how this possibly made sense, the manager stepped in and argued that we had to pay. I have decided that I will not mention his name despite how insulting I found this to be. I'm choosing to give someone the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was having a bad day. So let's do Math 101. An empty bar. Paying guests. Good-tippers. A lively group ready to keep spending. And you stop the sale over $5 and talk down to your customers. This felt like a perfect example of what I personally feel is going wrong in society today -- people blindly enforcing "rules" without applying any human judgment, common sense, or situational awareness, and mistaking a small bit of authority for good decision-making. In fairness, perhaps he doesn't have the power to override silly little penny-pinching rules by owners/mgmt. We walked out immediately -- on principle. It wasn't even about the five dollars. That single interaction left a worse taste than anything we ate. It takes real talent to turn happy dinner customers into walking warnings. I have to say, everyone else, including the doormen outside, were really super nice (hence the 2 stars).

The atmosphere is very hip, low-lit, and very thoughtfully decorated. I actually kept noting to my friends how much I loved the interior design of the place. I can see from my fellow Yelpers that this place used to be a little more hokey? Ha! Anyway, we were here on a Friday on what appeared to be a short-staffed night because our waitress seemed irritable. We let her know we were expecting more people but she didn't try that too hard to accommodate us (To be fair, my tardy friends had not made a reservation). Eventually we were able to spread across three booths so it worked out fine, but we were unable to move tables because of the pending karaoke setup. Musical chairs aside, the food was terrible to start with. My bf and I ordered the bruschetta and it was awful, amateur. Salty! Our entrees saved the night: he had pizza and I had wings, and we both enjoyed them. My friends complained about the calamari, noting they were rubbery. Couldn't take any pictures because of the dim lighting of the place. Anyway, based on the ambience of the place, I would return for a drink, but keep it intimate.

Bonkers is a sports bar, emphasis on the bar part. They do serve food, although I haven't eaten anything there since the name change so I don't know what the food is like anymore. This place is a locals bar, but be warned it's locals in the "sketchy folk drinkin" sense than in the family sense. The beer isn't all that cheap and the selection is "meh" while the atmosphere isn't all that great (feels like a small town bar, complete with neon signs advertising Budweiser). The only redeeming quality is that they have Karaoke on friday nights, which is usually good entertainment. The Karaoke tends to attract the student crowd so is usually a lot of fun. Oh and young men beware, there tends to be cougars present.
