Our HEARTBREAKING experience at The Terrace of St. Cloud LTC. In a matter of a weekend, my father went from upright and alert to near lifeless, and they didn't even notice. The terrace claimed my father was simply sleeping and medicated, claimed his vitals were normal, they claimed it was a coincidence of timing, they claimed his sleepiness (actually comatose state) was due to meds that were never given. I had to demand his vitals be taken, by threat of calling 911 myself. It revealed a horrible fact. They allowed my father to lie in bed UNMEDICATED AND UNTREATED, even UNDIAGNOSED, with severe Sepsis, Pneumonia, UTI, WBC through the roof, respiratory failure, sustained Tachycardia, and a massive stroke, as he slowly and painfully died. They did not provide the necessary "comfort care" they were entrusted to provide, nor did they communicate the change of condition with our family. Instead, they did their best to hide it. The staff that was hired to protect and care for him did not at this critical time. Something as simple as a urine analysis could have revealed so much. NOT EVEN A PAIN KILLER, NO COMPASSION. They chose to ignore the fact that he was dying right before them, watched and did nothing as if his life were worth nothing. His pain was worth nothing. When we arrived in the ER of St. Cloud Orlando Health, only 6 minutes away. The paramedics had to place him on full O2 at 100% and manually bag him as he was passing away in transit. He had numerous major diagnoses that are not acute and with certainty require time to progress (severe Sepsis, pneumonia, chronic UTI, WBC through the roof, respiratory failure, sustained tachycardia, and a major stroke). We tried our best to be there, befriend, and show acts of appreciation toward the staff. Always respectful and attentive. Yet they lied or made the wrong assumptions without fact-checking. Jeffrey, my father's RN, assured us that my father was sleeping because he "was up partying too much overnight," and supposedly they gave him a sleep medication to help him rest. Well, that was not true; it was not even documented in his medical chart. He also encouraged my mother to give my father a supplement drink while he was unresponsive and showed no swallowing reflex. We suspected that he may have been comatose days before my ER transfer demand. I do not want to attribute bad motives to this one specific nurse. The staff is clearly overworked and understaffed. But the consequences reflect on the patients. But the sad reality is that nothing is going to change. AHCA, State-Managed agencies, and all the attorneys in the world have no bearing on a broken system. It will continue to sadly take our sweet elderly ones in an undignified way. Those who cared for us 1st are sadly neglected by the agencies and individuals entrusted to care for them and protect them. Only God can bring justice, and he will. This facility REDACTED DOCUMENTS that prevented my father from being transferred to another facility, IGNORED SEVERAL FILED GRIEVANCES, perhaps even erased them. The apathy is tangible with nurses, nursing aides, Manager Wendy, Nurse Marie and Jackie Dir. of Nursing. Caregiver burn-out has clouded the judgement of some of these persons in my opinion. Please do not forget the ones you made an oath to serve and protect. Ultimately, we are all accountable to a higher power. May this testimony serve if nothing else, as a way to prevent this from happening to others, if only one person benefits it was worth sharing our story. read more

Do not let that previous review confuse you on making a decision. I am not usually not the one to leave reviews and have had family members on other rehabilitation & nursing facility. I can tell you please do your research and look at your portions before coming here. There is a huge lack of communication and staff need to be trained properly. There is no sense of urgency and everyone does the bare minimum. Is like if everyone is thee for their pay check and hate working there. They try to keep the grounds clean but the place has this uncomfortable smell as soon as you walk through the hallways. There is a lack of direction and management. You ask anyone anything about the patient and they were not able to articulate to you of medication were administer, of the patient ate or did therapy. It will take hours before they would circle back after checking on the computer. On one occasion housekeeping was bothered that I asked for them to come mop the floor because there was juice spilled on the floors for hours with food particles on the floor, and her response was that they cleaned the room earlier in the morning and we should not leave a drink close by so for the patients so they do not spill it again. Really, they are not allow to have a drink by bed side to keep them hydrated. I would leave cooked food prepared in advance that was not feed to the patient. And on our first day they left dirty bed sheet on the floor for hours and the nurse came to pick it up after we complained about it. Their attention to detail is none existent and you need to be on top of your game to make sure they are doing what they are suppose to. Four employee did not know how or where to get a form to be filled out to list all her belonging. Form was acquired and filled out almost a week later after I brought it to management attention. This should be a form used with every patient check in as it's done with other facilities. If they do not know a simple answer to a simple form what else can you expect. During the week I checked in with the therapist to see progress and was told that theraphy was not completed on a given day because the therapist was off but I was told by the unit manager than they have several therapist and there is always one on staff. Nevertheless they did not talk her out to the theraphy room for two days because no one told the therapist the patients was clear to leave the room. On one day I walked in at 10:30 and morning medications had not been given causing a lot of tremor due to párkinson on the patients. When I asked the nurse she did not know and a few minutes later came in with all the medications. Just checking her out was a hassle. I called the day before to let them know to notify the morning staff and find out the steps I needed to take. Well when I got there the morning staff did not get the memo. read more

I am currently employe d at this facility. I could not report to work on my scheduled day because my own mother was rushed to the ER during her dialysis. Later she was placed in the ICU! I could not think straight I texted my DON to let her know that I would not be in to work and I let her know why. The next day the response that I received and I quote" Hi hope all is well with your mom checking on you and unfortunately a friendly reminder due to your calling in I have to put you on the schedule for Next Sunday. Everyone knows that I am from Michigan so THat is where I will be at my mother's bedside. I was NEVER given a pay schedule one of the other nurses told me that payday is only on the &th and the 20th. I received no facility orientation to tell me such things. So on the 19th I called to let the receptionist know that I would be in to pick up my check. When i went on the 20th I was told by reception that payday is on the 22nd then I was told that payday is going to be the 23rd due to the 22nd being a Sunday. I am supposed to fly to Michigan to care for my mother. When I was at the facility looking for the payroll person I bumped into the DON who preceded to have a heated conversation with me in the middle of the hallyway telling me that I am unprofessional for not keeping her informed. I told her that she is unreasonable and insensative. She expects for the staff to be responsible for the patients for 24 hours a day but I guess I am supposed to allow my mom to die alone in an ICU room in Michigan. She then told me that I was removed from the schedule and that she was happy to remove me from the schedule. Then she called me BOBO and walked off. I asked her when was pay day and when would payroll be back into the facility and she walked off whille telling me that she couldn't help me. All I have to say is this.If the nurses are not happy while working at a nursing home your loved one probably will not be happy either. This facility has a high aqcuity and lack of staff. The treatment of the bursing staff is subpar even while nursing staff is trying to care for resident'sI have YET to be able to take a lunch break and although my shift ends at 11pm I do not leave until 1am or 2 am. I DO NOT reccommend any nurses to work here. I will be sharing MT EXPERIENCE on all social media accounts and with all of my many nurse friends far and wide. Remember where the nursing staff is over worked your loved ones more than likely will not be happy. I am a 20 year veteran nurse with 3 jobs this job works me the hardest and pays me the least.
