I LIKED Body Worlds VITAL, and learned a lot. Great exhibit. Go while it is still in town. ALSO, IMAX movies are awesome anytime. After viewing the bods, I strolled through the rest of the museum. I was shocked to see some of the same exhibits I saw on my kids' field trips more than 10 years ago! There is no flow to the exhibits, and many are tired, or even broken. I expect to see awesome creativity, innovation and a WOW factor to the whole of the place. I am sure much of it is a matter of funding, and that is sad here in the heart of Silicon Valley. Exhibit design and maintenance is also a problem. I am sorry to say there is a serious need for major improvements to the Tech. I see in a previous post that there is new staff charged with this task. I wish them all the best, for the Tech is a tired, dusty jewel of the South Bay. read more

Do. It go here unless you have a small child, even then you'll probably spend $80 for tickets. For the amount of exhibits they have (and the amount that actually work) $25 for an adult ticket is ridiculous when theres almost nothing there. The bottom floor is a joke; they have gotten rid of, In my opinion, the best exhibit there; I'm not quite sure what it was called but it scanned biometrics very cool and educational. The coding lab is in shambles and nobody knows how to use it, and the jet pack simulator isn't working. Upstairs is a little better with cool VR exhibits and the colorful lab where you get more adult centered science. Not worth the money at all for such a small museum read more

I saw the star trek experience, I thought it would be more interactive no camera recording :( no pictures They had two of the same flight simulators a whopping 11 dollars just buy one ticket. everyone looked lost, it seemed like it was a slap together in a hurry. I'm a fan of Star trek the next generation, and this seemed like a waste of money. read more

We have been here a couple of times for special exhibits. This time it was for the Star Wars exhibit. Being a huge Star Wars fan, the displays really were pretty cool. While I didn't care for the science stuff there, it was good to have as many people did enjoy it. Being priced at $22/person, it was pretty spendy and I would have to think twice about going if we had to pay full-price (we got the tickets for free so it was fine). We did purchase the Millenium Falcon experience for the extra $5/person, but were both pretty disappointed. I would skip that part altogether... we were suckered in though for the "extra $5". The only half-cool thing about it was jumping to lightspeed, but you can experience that jump better at Star Tours in Disneyland. We parked on the street and were in and out in about an hour and a half (weekday). read more

Despite all the gummed up track balls, this place has a certain charm, particularly for the five year old nephew. he loved distorting the appearance of his second life character till it resembled a cross between wc fields and a punk rocker. he buried his head in my chest whenever a mummified corpse appeared on the imax screen. he was too timid to whack-a-spammer. he liked the robot arm that spelled out his name in blocks. he tried his hand at a simulated wheelchair race but it was hard for his 5 year old arms to roll the wheels. he liked looking at his thermal image. and the popcorn, cos he's not allowed to have junk food at home. read more

First time here at the Tech Museum. Very interesting stuff here! The Body Wold exhibit seriously creeped me out, but it was pretty amazing. I would have loved to take pictures, but it was not allowed. Also this is a great place to take young kids. They could learn a lot and there's plenty to keep them interested. Admission is a bit pricey but I think worth it for the amount of time and money it must take to keep it updated. Only thing was a few exhibits did not work or were broken. They should keep up on that. Other than that I'd love to come back when they have some new exhibits. read more

Once or twice every five years everybody loves the tech museum. It's spacious has innovative interactive teaching tools for children and adults! All my children's classes have gone over the years and I enjoyed being one of the volunteer parents who go! read more

This museum is so boring. Tons of elementary school kids running around. That group seems to like it here but if you're an older person, there's not much to do. I only came back here to go to the Bodies Exhibit. It was about 1/3 the size of the real exhibit but had some cool displays. Not really worth the admission though. I'd never go back here again. read more

Cool spot for children and adults to learn about innovative technology throughout the years... however, $20 per ticket for children and $25 per adult is a bit steep for a "family oriented" museum. read more

Great times were had by all here for the After Hours event. Came here with a bunch of friends and we were just able to see everything and play games for hours on end; living it up as if we were kids again. For $10, it's WELL worth it. We were planning on staying for just an hour or two, but ended up staying till Midnight just enjoying the live band, games, and exhibits. read more

I've been taking my daughter here since she could barely walk. It's a spacious space for her to run around and push buttons without breaking anything. However, now she's almost 4 and I have a 1.5 year old and it's still a great place for them to get a firm understanding of energy, earthquakes, sea exploration, and so many cool tech-y things! We try to make it here at least monthly. This time, we took a giant leap by trying out the IMAX of "Born to be Wild" and it was incredible! The kids loved going to the theaters and really being intrenched in the movie and animal world. This museum is worth every penny for toddlers, kids, teenagers, all the way up to adults. It's a hit for the whole family, for sure! read more

I came here for a private event as part of a conference social. The museum itself is pretty awesome. Lots of things to see/do/experience. The catered food however was something that needs improvement. The pulled pork sliders where 90% bread with what look like a pinch of meat. The mac and cheese cubes were dry, greasy and taste less. Place is not too big but probably big enough to entertain kids for a few hours. A lot of the activities were closed off or not working, which was a bummer since the kids had a scavenger hunt to do as an assignment :( It's a place where kids have a lot of hands on activities so it's going to be a little hectic at times. My visit (with nieces ages 5 and 8) to The Tech Museum of Innovation was a delightful day filled with many hands-on and interactive exhibits ranging from exploring new advances in the field of genetics to testing out futuristic innovations to space exploration. Exploring science and technology at this level at the museum was both enriching and exciting! Here you will also find an IMAX Dome Theater. Though some of the exhibits did not work, my nieces definitely had a wonderful time exploring all the exhibits and partaking in the supervised activities! The Tech Museum of Innovation is truly a great resource to have available to introduce science and technology to children (and in particular to get young girls interested in these fields). Since we did not have enough time to see all of the exhibits in the museum, it is a given that my nieces and myself will return for another visit to The Tech Museum of Innovation! Currently the admission price for the permanent exhibits only is $4.00 for all ages or $8.00 with an IMAX ticket. read more

My first trip to the tech museum was initiated by a sale on the IMAX movie theater. I had never been to an IMAX before. It was a strange experience watching a movie projected upward onto a dome. It felt like I was watching a movie in a planetarium. It seems like the seats in the front could not see very well. I was about in the middle and felt like I had to look way up to see the middle of the screen. Sound was awesome! I'm not really sure if I liked the theater or not. I might have to go back to form a solid opinion of it. But it was not bad at all. After the movie they let us into the exhibits which were mostly electronic/robotic-based. Some interesting exhibits on DNA were my personal favorite. Overall I would recommend it to anyone. There are much worse ways to spend an afternoon. It was pretty average and just what I expected for the most part. read more

This review is for the Body Worlds exhibit that was features at this museum. I purhased the yelp deal, which was two tickets to the Body Worlds exhibit and admission to the rest of the Tech Museum. I was very psyched to see this exhibit. I saw a previous showing a few years back as well, and loved it. Call me weird, but I find the human body to be simply amazing. And to have the chance to see it on display like this, I couldn't pass up this second chance. The exhibit is very large with many different bodies, bones, nerves, organs, pictures to look at. There's information on each item to read. There's also an audio tour, if you so wish. What I really enjoy about this exhibit is that it is never too crowded and very orderly. As for the rest of the museum...let down! Upon exiting Body Worlds with our lovely souvenirs and what not, we decided to explore the rest of the museum. I will say that it was nice to see that they have added quite a bit of exhibits, and there are activities for a variety of age groups (young and old alike). What drove me crazy was how crowded the museum was! It was ridiculous! There were lines to try almost every exhibit. I don't mean 2-3 people either. There were as much as 12 people waiting for an exhibit, and people saving spots for groups. My poor daughter couldn't stand the wait. We strolled the museum in hopes of finding more things for her to get her hands on and try. We found a few exhibits, literally 2, she didn't have to wait for. Everything else was so crowded, we both became frustrated and left for lunch. But at least we were ableto enjoy what we came for: Body Worlds. The Tech Museum itself is a let down due to the amount of people they allow in. They should seriously have some kind of crowd control or people to organize the more popular hands-on exhibits. 5 stars to Body Worlds. 3 to the Tech Museum. 4 to average it out. read more

I've been here for adult night a bunch of times recently and I just took my niece here last week. First of all, adult night is amazing. You run around tipsy and get in touch with your inner child, playing with science experiments and interactive art stuff. It's always so much fun. And going with my niece was great. Seeing it through her young (and sober ) eyes was a nice change of pace and I definitely will be bringing her back there soon read more

Lovin' The Tech Museum. Great fun & interactive exhibits for kids of all ages! You can also watch movies (Educational or Movies out in Theaters) in their amazing IMax auditorium! Cons: -I don't like how the museum doesn't really have their own parking structure -The gift shop is overrated and doesn't have anything interesting in it -You might fall asleep while watching an educational film in the iMax Theatre. (It's not like I did or anything ;) Other than that this place is great just not amazing. PS My favorite exhibit is the earthquake attraction downstairs! read more

Ever dream of going back to the 90s? Ever dream of going back to the 90s to look into the future? For some exhibits, it felt as if that was the theme of the museum. "One day, we'll all be playing a virtual life simulator on something called the internet! Then we'll be playing with cameras and sticking our faces on BEES! And wow, Windows 95! Mom, can we play Handicap moon race?! Totally radical, roight? " I won't lie, i enjoyed my time here. The IMAX Dome is the definite highlight, but for other reasons so was watching families play Second Life (an internet cesspool for cyber criminals, nymphos and freaks). read more

At a certain age (around 5), your kids are ready to graduate from the Discovery Museum to something a little more advanced. The Tech Museum is a natural progression. They have some cool exhibit space exhibits on the lower level, and some computer and techy exhbits at the upper levels. We find ouselves at the Tech fairly frequently as we have an awesome half price Happy Hollow Zoo reciprocal membership. The Happy Hollow Zoo reciprocal is also good for the Exploratorium, which is truely mind-blowing. The Tech does not have the quantity or quality of the Exploratorium, but the Exploratorium is expectional. That being said, you can easily spend an full day at the Tech and have a great time. One of the highlights of the Tech is the IMAX theatre. You get a 30-45 minute IMAX show with the price of admision, so make sure you know the show times and take advantage of this benefit. The "Under the Sea" show playing now is freaking amazing. Worth the price of the admission. If you have adolescent kids (5-9 years of age), it is worthwhile to get a membership to one of the bay area museums - The Tech, The Exploratorium, Happy Hollow Zoo, San Francisco Zoo, Oakland Zoo, and Coyote Point seem to be all interconnected, so if you get a membership to one, you can get free and/or half price admission to the others (the reciprocals vary from place to place). Although Happy Hollow is closed for renovations, their reciprocal works best for us, as it gives you FREE admission to the Oakland Zoo, which is better than the SF Zoo. Get your geek on and enjoy. read more

One very cool and mostly inexpensive Museum in the Heart of San Jose. -I have been member here for some time. It is well worth it. -They keep changing their displays every so often in different sections. Thus every year it is a little different. -They have a very COOL Imax theater. -On top of that, they have continually new Special exhibits. While these cost more, they will not tear your pockets, they will sure make a hole in them!! -The most expensive part of the experience is PARKING in downtown San Jose. The city is very good at finding ways to extract a little more than they should in Parking! read more

A bit of a bore for me except for the robot that takes your picture and hand draws your face. Everything else just isn't really done in a fun learning way. I pity the kids that are dragged by parents to learn something. Admission will include IMAX if you are interested to see 3-D film. Some special exhibits requires additional fees as well. It is a neat place to take kids. Also, if you are an adult and shy about computer tech, its a great place to interact with a variety of concepts and young docents that can get you acquainted with the basics - no need to take some lame powerpoint for winners class. I'm not sure how frequently they rotate exhibits, but I could see this place getting old quick - however, that's just me. They do have an IMAX where I've saw the screening for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice - outstanding experience. Worth the drive up from Monterey. For that, I will continue to go to screenings at this location. read more

The Tech is an awesome science/technology museum that has rotating exhibits; you'll never get bored! This is a really cool place to take kids; I'm a former nanny, so I speak from experience. I HIGHLY recommend checking out the IMAX Dome theater, which is nearly 360° of film screen surrounding you. Very surreal and very cool! I took "my" kids (remember, I'm an ex-nanny) to the museum, and they insisted on seeing "Hubble" (which was amazing). Even the 7-year-old was FASCINATED by the film, partially because of the amazing IMAX theater. She couldn't stop whispering to me about how much she loved it. The best part? Keep in mind, she was 7 at the time, and therefore very petite. As we were leaving the theater, she said, "Watching that made me feel so SMALL!" Fortunately, the theater was uncrowded and the older people near us found her to be adorable. She is. GO SEE MOVIES AT THEIR IMAX THEATER! read more

hmm... It's $19/person, this allows access to the Body Worlds Vital exhibit and the Tech Museum. The Body Worlds Vital Exhibit--Interesting, but also boring. As I began walking through the the museum, I couldn't help having such disgusting thoughts. All the bodies reminded me of beef jerky and rawhide. That's gross, I know. I couldn't help but think of how chewy their bodies looked. At times, when I saw the bodies cut into slices, I thought of frying bacon in the kitchen. Eww... sick. Aside from my dark way of thinking, the museum didn't spark much interest. They were cut in all different ways. They exhibited a runner, flamenco dancers, lassoer, a swordsmen and a few other body types. It wasn't what I expected whatsoever. I thought there would be a lot of different types of beef jerky, oh sorry, I mean bodies, but I was so disappointed. When we reached the end of the exhibit we were asking each other, "Seriously, no more beef jerky?!" The Tech Museum-- seems like an awesome place to take your kids to. Although we are both 26 and went there with no kids, we still had fun! So many cool things to experiment with. I got to pretend I was a lab scientist. He got to race in a wheelchair against a 12 year old. We also played with all the cool gadgets. We even tried the astronaut ice cream (WHAT A RIP OFF, but I've always wanted to try it). Overall, it was an interesting experience, some boring and the others fun. I'm definitely glad that I got to experience something new :) read more

I really had a 2 star experience here, but I can see how someone might be able to have a 4 star experience. So I'll be fair and give it 3 stars. The mistakes I made were: -not going with a kid -going on a Saturday -not getting a tech pass ( I was OK with this but if i were a kid... forget about it!) -going when the Imax projector broke There were a lot of interactive displays. The cool ones were reserved for people who had a tech pass. If you take your kids there, you had better buy a tech pass or you will be a sucky parent. I'm not sure how much they are, I didn't even know about them until I was already in the museum and then I discovered all the cool things required the tech pass. We bought combo tickets for $8. It got us into the museum and we were supposed to get to see an Imax movie. Unfortunately the projector broke before we got to see it. They gave us vouchers to come back another time. It won't be on a Saturday, that place was packed! Bring your hand sanitizer! Overall, seems like a good place to take kids. The cheese pizza we ordered at the cafe was pretty good too! They also had sandwiches, pastas and salads. And of course a kids menu. read more

Note- my trip to the Tech Museum was during a company party, not during regular hours. This is a pretty neat space with lots of different exhibits to explore. The main entrace is located on the second floor and there is one floor below and one above. Some of the exhibits are more geared toward children, but many are adult-friendly, too. We especially liked the giant Google Earth exhibit. This seems like a fun place to go with a family. read more

First off I'm NOT a trekkie. I'm married to one and have been to the Star Trek Experience when it was in Vegas. Contrary to many of the reviews I see here I enjoyed the exhibit. There were lots of costumes and I liked that they had Monitors showing the parts of the episodes where the costumes were worn. I also thought the sets were a nice touch. There is a room filled with various set pieces from the show, I especially liked the furniture. I can understand that some might feel $25 is a bit steep but it wasn't quite the rip-off people are complaining it is. It took us 45 minutes to see everything. The only thing that annoyed me is they wouldn't let us in until exactly 1pm (time on our ticket) even though the exhibit was not crowded at all. And we only wanted to go in 15 minutes early. read more

Pretty cool place. The body worlds exhibit was very interesting. Made me take a step back and really think about what I do to my body with the foods I eat, the exercise (or lack thereof), etc... I didn't have enough time to really explore the tech museum part, but I did get to do the earthquake exhibit 2x. Kinda crazy to re-live the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake! I went here in November 2010, and I still have been hard pressed to find a museum as good as this one. I think what makes this one stand out is the interactivity: I remember getting to play with some 3D simulators and a DNA tool. Also bought an amusing coffee cup from here that remains one of my lady's favorites. read more

Oh boy this place is pretty kewl the best thing was the movie theater and the VR bird flying machine. I believe that it can be a bit more physical interactive for to me it's like work and the aspect of sitting at a computer is not a big thing for me because I do it everyday lol. I love the store it has a lot of nice space items and it is very clean;) got Timmy a moon doll and a moon pennet for college. The food is good but a bit small and well pricey lol but it is a museum bit I really did like my hamburger;) it is about 3 floors and so there are a lot of things to see and do. I recommend buying in person and not online for it overcharged me and the people fixed it right away and that I really appreciate and are going to try to fix the online ticket purchase. The movie theater is FANTASTIC and the suggestion is get there a half hour early and sit close to the too at least past the IMAX sign so you don't get ill or hurt your neck:) read more

Our son had plenty of fun here. It's a bit on the pricey side, and parking can be a bit challenging, but once you're in, you can easily spend a ton of time in here. Lots of interactive exhibits and activities for the little ones, and interesting things for adults as well. Yes, some things can feel a little bit dated for the adults, but don't tell that to the kids. Looked like all the kids here were having a blast! read more

I love museums, although I may be a touch old (25) for this type of museum, I still get a kick out of them. Hoping for an Exploratorium like experience, I went to The Tech since it seemed interesting. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a let down. Line for tickets was about a half an hour. Even the line at the new Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park moved quicker than this. Bright side, tickets are only $8 and that includes a film in their domed IMAX theater (which I thought was an OmniMAX theater, as it is called in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, but I guess things are different out West). Saw the film first, good times. IMAX is alright, what with the massive screen, but a domed screen provides a more encompassing experience that really pulls you in and makes you feel like you're actually there. You lose your sense of horizon as the entire room shifts (or looks like it does) on the screen. The usual panning vistas and epic views were present. After the film I went to the museum proper (I skipped the DaVinci exhibit, which is gone by now anyhow) hoping to learn something or at least have fun. Your barcoded ticket was used on a lot of the 'exhibits' to allow you to upload something one place and then manipulate it somewhere else. Other places, it didn't seem any purpose other than to swipe it. Either way, I found the exhibits to be decidedly mediocre and rather behind the times. The museum seemed to be cutting edge...circa 2000...but feels a good deal dated now. Exhibits were sometimes confusing or didn't actually provide any useful information. I honestly don't feel like I learned anything. Highlight was building parachutes in the basement, that was kind of cool. Either way, I found it to be a letdown. It was like a video game for your old Macintosh Performa 550, still probably enjoyable but not an eye opener. This museum could really use a complete make over to bring it up to date with the world of today. Two stars, one for the relatively low cost of admission and the other for the IMAX theater. None for the museum. Honestly, go the Exploratorium, it is a lot more fun and you'll probably learn a heckuva lot more. read more
