Plus I got to try it with their fan favorite (specialty) cocktail the "Orange Smash". Big shout out to Bryce for recommending this drink, AND being a badass bartender who can be great company/conversationalist while also taking the heat of 14 espresso martinis on the board. Also! This is walking distance to/from Commodore Bob's, Little Doey, Bluto's, & their sister coffee shop, Dolce Coffee and Ice Cream.

We sat at the bar because it was just the two of us and I had a French 75 and my husband had an old-fashioned. It was by far the best 75 I've ever had! The bartender was by herself and she was working her tail off! There was not a lot of servers, and it was later in the evening, but our bartender was fabulous! She was also our waitress. Started off with the martini mini board. A variety of cheese, nuts, and meats. It was very good for a starter. Not too much and a fun choice to share. We were not a fan of the dried apricots, but ate everything else. We then shared the pesto chicken flatbread. Crisp and warm. Would definitely get again. It was towards the end of the night and some of the staff gathered around the bar and started chatting with us. We told them we were from Baton Rouge. And got on the topic of football. Fun times and getting to know the staff. Our bartender ended up being in the same sorority as our daughter. It was a great evening. We will definitely be back! And highly recommend! Hail State!

She ordered the tuna special with coconut risotto; I went for the manicotti. The tuna was passable but forgettable. elevator music in fish form. The risotto? Mushy, coconut-scented regret. Sorry mom? My manicotti was so bland it could've been served at a tax seminar. For prices that suggest a culinary revelation, we got dishes that wouldn't impress a truck stop diner. The service matched the food's enthusiasm--our server was polite but they weren't giving the Olive Garden a run for their money, let's be real.. The bill hit like a personal insult, far too steep for such a lackluster show. Word is the ramen might be better, but after this, I'm not betting on it. Oxford's food scene isn't barren, far from it. The town boasts gems that deliver honest, delicious fare without the ego. But spots like SoLa, with their trendy pomp and inflated tabs, are a bitter letdown for anyone who's ventured beyond state lines and tasted what distant lands can offer. The Moms and I left wishing we'd picked a place that respects both palate and purse.

And it was truly a hulking mountain of fries! - Avocado toast - One of the best we've ever tried So we loved the food and the service was exceptional. And it was also very affordable - before tipping, we paid $61 for a three-person meal (3 entrées, only water). This is the best dining experience we've had in Mississippi so far. Highly recommended!

The service and food have been steadily declining, and it's starting to feel like they're resting on their morals instead of trying to maintain the quality they used to have. Our most recent visit was the final straw. The pizza arrived cold--not lukewarm, but actually cold. When I brought it to the manager, Spencer, he couldn't have cared less. He was rude, condescending, and talked to me like I was inconveniencing him by asking for basic, hot food. His attitude honestly reminded me of a used-car salesman during Covid--impatient, dismissive, and acting like he's doing me a favor by even acknowledging the issue. Between the cold pizza, the declining experience, and Spencer's disrespectful tone, we won't be back.

THE FOOD The Highlight: The Tiramisu was the star of the evening--moist, semi-sweet, and rich. A tasty end to the meal. Starters: The freshly fired Cheese Bread was another win, topped with fluffy, warm cheese. A comforting start. The Entrees: The portion sizes for the Gnocchi, Lasagna, and Fettuccine Alfredo were enormous. You get a massive amount of food for the price. * Note: The execution didn't match the size. There were issues with texture and flavor depth across the main dishes. For example, the Fettuccine Alfredo sauce was watery and bland rather than creamy and rich. SERVICE & ATMOSPHERE The dining area has a homey, casual feel. The hostess and server were patient, and the waitress immediately swapped out a glass of red wine that had oxidized, which was appreciated. PARKING Plenty of streetside parking is available. OVERALL The Nautical Whimsey provides a large amount of food for the cost. It is a solid choice if you need to feed hungry teenagers who value quantity over culinary precision, but foodies looking for high-quality Italian might want to look elsewhere.
