    10" pot pie

I wanted to start the review by saying our first visit was for a Christmas party and the food was wonderful we left very full and very satisfied! (Although we left a bit confused why the wait staff had such casual attire(tank tops and jeans) for such a classy style restaurant. 2 years later we have some family visiting and we decided to try it again remember the amazing meal we had. We looked up the hours and found that this week was take and bake meals and due to covid starting a new service approach. My father in law was very excited to order the gumbo so we decided to go for it! The online instructions stated to order before 2pm and pickup between 5-6 . So my father in law placed the order around 1:20 . He was told that it was to late to order the gumbo so we decided to order the chicken pot pie instead. He ordered the extra large and was told that wasn't available so we went with a large 10" and a small 8 " instead, a house salad and 1 apple turnover. 50$ in just pot pie. We were very disappointed in our take home meal. We did not feel that the sizing matched the pricing whatsoever. The taste was very average and the best part but was the buttery crust which was disappointingly only a topper. We would love to recommend this place again but perhaps only for a sit down experience.

    J. Broussard and I have a friendship that goes back about 4 years now.I graduated and now live in Memphis and I really miss it. We made a trip down to visit a friend and it was the must on the itinerary. I have never had food I didn't love there and I have never had bad service. I usually go with Beth's special of the day but have tried the menu items and you can not make a poor choice! We had my graduation party there in a private room and it was phenomenal. My family could not have been more pleased.

Shrimp creole on a Friday night...
    Jamie J.

Visited on a February Friday night early as the dining room was about to open. This restaurant is conveniently located in the quaint downtown area of Columbus. Enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar first. Service is sweet and local and very welcoming and attentive. Was quickly seated in one of the dining rooms once where I started with the Cajun shrimp toast appetizer. They're like four shrimp-filled hush puppies with a pepper jelly dipping sauce and they're fantastic. Have had several visits from staff already to ensure my comfort and enjoyment of the food and wine. Beautiful. Ordered the shrimp creole entree and another Sauvignon blanc. The entree was piping hot and not spicy but reasonably flavorful. As another reviewer had noted, the side was broccoli and although steamed well, consisted of two stemmy florets. More than enough food in the entree, so maybe they should consider reeling that in and going harder with the sides. Saved room for the bread pudding beignets and they were delicious. Crispy with a moist inside and covered heavily in confectioner sugar. I'll get these again. Overall the atmosphere, service, and food were very good. I'll gladly make the hour and a half trip from my small town across the state line to get this experience again. My thanks to Heather and the staff at J. Broussard's!

The pasta was decent but the shrimp tasted like it was previously frozen.

A honest and long review about our experience at The Guest Room…read more The hype for this place wasn't worth it. I reallyyyy wanted to write a raving review about this place but there were so many issues that I can't. My husband and I tried coming here two separate times. Once on Thursday night around 8pm and then another time the next night. On Thursday night, we had gone to dinner at Restaurant Tyler and then popped over afterwards to see if we could get a seat. My husband had been before and said it was cool to check out so naturally, I wanted to as well. When we checked it, the girl at the front says it'll be a 45 minute wait. We decided to still put our name down and then just walk around. We ultimately decided to give up our place in line and go back to our airbnb due to being tired from travel that day. The real problems happened the following night. There were 6 people in our group this night. We came around 4pm to put our name down, knowing that it would be a long wait. We were thinking 2 hours maybe.. Upon checking in, the girl at the front writes our name and number down on a order notepad... like the ones the you would if you were a server. I thought this was kind of odd but didn't think much of it. After doing so, the girl proceeds to tell us that it will be at least a 4 hour wait! She says that she'll call us when it's our turn and that we'll have about 10 minutes to show up to claim the table. I couldn't believe it. She further mentions that big tables don't really open up that open which is understandable as it's a reallyyyy small bar. We hadn't eaten dinner yet so we were like okay, no biggie. We'll go have dinner and then check back in when we are done. Dinner runs longer than expected and by the time we finish, it had been about 3.5 hours since we initially checked in. Again, we go down into the bar and tell the girl that we wanted to check on our place in line. She proceeds to tell us that "there was a situation/incident and they had to scrap the list" they had but assured us that since we had put our names down before that she would move our names up so we "didn't lose our place in line" but that it would still be another few hours of a wait. Again, we said okay, no worries, we're going to go to a few of the bars down the street and come back. Fast forward to 10:30pm... we still hadn't heard back from the bar and were getting ready to call it a night. We head back to the bar for the 3rd time. The girl said that the table still wasn't ready and that "as sooooon as this party at the bigger table leaves, it's ours if we want to wait." At this point, this is just getting beyond ridiculous and we are getting frustrated. I understand that there is a "no reservations" and it is strictly walk ins only, however, a 6 hour wait for a table is simply unacceptable, especially when the inital time was roughly 4 hours. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt that because tt was a big game weekend (Texas vs. Mississippi State) so maybe that is contributing to the long wait, but after talking with someone who lives in Starkville and learning that there is always a ridiculous wait, I wasn't feeling as lenient at this point. We ended up being seated and squeezing ourselves in a "4 person" booth after explaining that it's been over 6 hours and just how ridiculous this wait was. After sitting there for about 10 minutes, the bigger table next to us left and we moved over. While we were there, it kind of seemed like the information being told to people who were wanting to be put on the list or were on the list and wanting to check their spot in line was inconsistent. It almost felt like you had to stand there the entire time in order to remind that that you were still waiting. Overall, this experience was so disappointing and they really need a better system for taking names/keeping track of reservations. We probably would have stayed longer and bought more drinks but ultimately only stayed for one round and then leaving. While the interior was super cool, decked out for Halloween and the drinks were good, the whole situation leading up to us being sat really soured the experience. Maybe having a smaller group would have its advantages but we'll never know.

This spot did not fail me. I slid right in and sat at the bar solo. I truly enjoyed my visit. My only gripe was that it was very cold inside. It was uncomfortable and I am hot natured. I had a very nice bartender. She was great. Took care of my needs, made suggestions, confirmed and complimented my choice, and got my food out fast. Can't remember her dang name. Renee maybe?? Huge asset to this company. Give her a raise! Get my food and it's great. Burger was a bit well done, but she did not ask me how I wanted it cooked. This may be the one way kinda burger place as I am now remembering that they have never asked me. It was still really good despite I like a pink burger. Fries are fresh cut, and this time freshly cooked as well. Score! I love a good real French fry! These do not disappoint. I dig the design and set up inside. It has cool old style lamps and oversized bulbs. Great look and the patio is freaking killer! It was packed in my visit with people enjoying the nice muggy MS air. Very solid small chain! Give them a try. '25 - 43/111

Service was swift and prompt. The vibe in the place is like elevated sports bar. I enjoyed the decor, TVs and lighting. For the food: Red Beans and Rice - 4 out 5. Star of the show. Great flavor, very well seasoned. Wish I had bowl instead of a cup. Gumbo - 2.5 out of 5. Seemed heavy on file. The color was right, but it felt lighter than I'm used to. Lacked some flavor, but salt made it more floral. Caesar - 3 out of 5. Fairly pedestrian. Nothing outstanding. Dressing a little too sweet, mayo-ey. Ribeye - 3.5 out of 5. May not be a popular opinion, but it loses all the flavor marks for me cause of that "jus" they put on it. WAY to sweet. Distracts from an otherwise awesome cut of beef. Medium Rare was cooked perfectly though and pieces without the sweet sauce were tender and delicious. Special review: Loved the fries. Sucker for that almost battered taste. Crispy and fluffy.
