Another great visit! My friends and I came on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate a birthday and had a fantastic time. All of our arepas came out hot! I finally tried the sweet potato arepa and it was awesome! It'll be a rough choice between that and the corn base next time I'm back. We all also took advantage of the $3 mimosa deal, which tasted great on that hot afternoon. Cannot wait to visit here again! It's a must stop in Starkville!

We were the first customers on a Sunday as we entered the restaurant this morning we felt a bit as though we were interrupting the staff... afterwards we were promptly seated and served by a pleasant young man who took the order. We wish they had more bagel options because the plain are meh (just ok). The American had a generous amount of ingredients (scrambled eggs covered with Gouda cheese). and the sausage was also "ok" - nothing stellar but better than " just edible." Overall it was all "ok" - nothing to run back to, but nothing horrible either. Since they were very few options for breakfast or brunch on a Sunday morning before 10 AM, it'll do.. The ambience is fine if you can sit outside otherwise it is college town decor.

Nice place. Great Venezuela's style food. Very friendly staff. Nice variety on coffee.

My husband and I stopped in on a Friday morning. It was pretty busy but we were able to be seated right away. We ordered within 10 mins of being there. The service was pretty slow despite the waitresses walking around often and seemingly busting a move. A different waitress other than the one who had taken our order, brought out our food and asked if there was anything else that we needed. We said that we still hadn't received our coffees yet and that she would "check on them." At this point, we had been there for over 30 mins. That is way too long to be waiting for an americano and a speciality drink, even when it is busy. Another 20 mins go by and we're ready to leave... still no coffees. I noticed that the table next to us that had arrived after us had received their coffees already meaning that ours were forgotten or never actually checked up on. We ended up just asking for them to cancel the coffees, we paid for our check and left. Sad that we weren't able to get coffees from this place but oh well... we took our coffee business elsewhere. Overall, I would come back for food but I think that this place needs to have one person dedicated to bussing tables/ running food items so that they don't have someone trying to make coffee, seat people and buss tables all at the same time.

    Venezuelan Breakfast Platter

I've been here twice for breakfast with my daughter. First time I tried the Venezuelan Breakfast Platter with ham, Venezuelan cheese, fried eggs, bacon and arepa. On the most recent visit I decided to be more adventurous and picked the Cachapa with Asada and Venezuelan Cheese Sticks for an appetizer. The breakfast platter was very good but the Cachapa was amazing! It is like a cross between a crepe and a pancake made with a cornmeal base, stuffed with cheese and asada. The asada was tender and incredibly flavorful. The cheese sticks were also wrapped in the cornmeal before frying and really good as well. Both times I had Blackberry juice to drink. The first time it was really good, the second it was meh. Probably wouldn't get again due to inconsistency. Seating can feel a little on the cramped side, especially moving past the bar area to where most of the seating is. Service was on the slow side even though staffing appeared to be adequate for the amount of tables. By the time we finished, there were quite a few people waiting outside for tables to empty.

Stopped by for a coffee on a visit to Starkville. Coffee Bar Host was very hospitable and the recommendation she gave me was perfect! The coffee was fabulous! Will visit again for sure!

A honest and long review about our experience at The Guest Room…read more The hype for this place wasn't worth it. I reallyyyy wanted to write a raving review about this place but there were so many issues that I can't. My husband and I tried coming here two separate times. Once on Thursday night around 8pm and then another time the next night. On Thursday night, we had gone to dinner at Restaurant Tyler and then popped over afterwards to see if we could get a seat. My husband had been before and said it was cool to check out so naturally, I wanted to as well. When we checked it, the girl at the front says it'll be a 45 minute wait. We decided to still put our name down and then just walk around. We ultimately decided to give up our place in line and go back to our airbnb due to being tired from travel that day. The real problems happened the following night. There were 6 people in our group this night. We came around 4pm to put our name down, knowing that it would be a long wait. We were thinking 2 hours maybe.. Upon checking in, the girl at the front writes our name and number down on a order notepad... like the ones the you would if you were a server. I thought this was kind of odd but didn't think much of it. After doing so, the girl proceeds to tell us that it will be at least a 4 hour wait! She says that she'll call us when it's our turn and that we'll have about 10 minutes to show up to claim the table. I couldn't believe it. She further mentions that big tables don't really open up that open which is understandable as it's a reallyyyy small bar. We hadn't eaten dinner yet so we were like okay, no biggie. We'll go have dinner and then check back in when we are done. Dinner runs longer than expected and by the time we finish, it had been about 3.5 hours since we initially checked in. Again, we go down into the bar and tell the girl that we wanted to check on our place in line. She proceeds to tell us that "there was a situation/incident and they had to scrap the list" they had but assured us that since we had put our names down before that she would move our names up so we "didn't lose our place in line" but that it would still be another few hours of a wait. Again, we said okay, no worries, we're going to go to a few of the bars down the street and come back. Fast forward to 10:30pm... we still hadn't heard back from the bar and were getting ready to call it a night. We head back to the bar for the 3rd time. The girl said that the table still wasn't ready and that "as sooooon as this party at the bigger table leaves, it's ours if we want to wait." At this point, this is just getting beyond ridiculous and we are getting frustrated. I understand that there is a "no reservations" and it is strictly walk ins only, however, a 6 hour wait for a table is simply unacceptable, especially when the inital time was roughly 4 hours. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt that because tt was a big game weekend (Texas vs. Mississippi State) so maybe that is contributing to the long wait, but after talking with someone who lives in Starkville and learning that there is always a ridiculous wait, I wasn't feeling as lenient at this point. We ended up being seated and squeezing ourselves in a "4 person" booth after explaining that it's been over 6 hours and just how ridiculous this wait was. After sitting there for about 10 minutes, the bigger table next to us left and we moved over. While we were there, it kind of seemed like the information being told to people who were wanting to be put on the list or were on the list and wanting to check their spot in line was inconsistent. It almost felt like you had to stand there the entire time in order to remind that that you were still waiting. Overall, this experience was so disappointing and they really need a better system for taking names/keeping track of reservations. We probably would have stayed longer and bought more drinks but ultimately only stayed for one round and then leaving. While the interior was super cool, decked out for Halloween and the drinks were good, the whole situation leading up to us being sat really soured the experience. Maybe having a smaller group would have its advantages but we'll never know.
