The guy at the front desk when we checked in was super friendly and helped explain a lot to us about the city, public transportation and such. Impressive hostel, very quiet, large rooms and a good breakfast spread…read more I stayed here for 4 nights in July with my partner. We got a double room with ensuite. the room was great! Huge and very clean. The bathroom/shower was really great, felt like a minimal hotel room. Our room was very warm however, an although there was large windows there was no airflow. A fan would have been ideal. The reception is great, really pretty decor, bar(with happy hour) and pool and games tables(2). The breakfast each morning was €5 each and was buffet style. Really good spread, cheese, meats, fruit, cereal, yogurt, eggs, coffee and herbal teas. This was extremely good value and sets you up for the day of playing tourist. 2 things I dislike about the hostel is its location. As a tourist I found its location pretty sketchy. The u ban is a 10 min walk away and from there until the hostel you have to walk on a very dark long road and then through a high rise housing estate. I would not have felt comfortable making this journey alone or in a small group late at night. After 10 at night you must use the side entrance which walks you through the hostels smoking area which as a non smoker is a really unpleasant welcome back when you've had a long day of huffing it across the city. There is also a guy who sits outside the hostel all night reminding people to keep the noise down, I *think* he's a security guard from the hostel, either that or a concerned local neighbour. Just be aware that he may jump out on you if your talking too loudly coming home. He gave me a bit of a fright! Lol

The beds are a bit lumpy but who needs to sleep when you are enjoying some of the best clubbing on the planet? Whatever you do don't accidentally wonder in to the flower shop close to the street thinking its the hotel because the shop keeper must've have had to deal with this mistake one too many times! One of the GREAT things about this spot is that it is right around the corner from one of my favorite spots in Berlin...Panorama Bar.

Unfortunately if I'd known it would also come with the customer service and cleanliness of a Soviet hotel pre-reunification then I might've looked somewhere else. The single rooms themselves are reasonably sized and are relatively clean, however the walls are paper thin. If you like the sound of your neighbour getting her rocks off to the latest motown hit single by Marvin Gaye or alternatively perhaps the Turkish dance party in the room next door you weren't invited to at 3am this place is definitely the perfect destination for you! Smoking indoors is definitely not allowed but complimentary as are the numerous dirty stained towels left discarded in the bathrooms. Please note: there is ONE communal bathroom for each floor only! This means that when there is someone else's blood/crap/etc on the toilet seat the cleaner withholds the right to clean it up. In Soviet Germany, toilet cleans you! Perhaps I'm expecting too much, Berlin is a party city after all and I'm all out of party. The wifi was average (don't expect to get it outside of the reception area downstairs) and the lack of a social friendly "atmosphere" does remind you that you were perhaps a little ambitious booking a kitsch hostel in for two weeks.

Very friendly (friendly as in "Good to talk to about why it's never a good idea to mix beer and MDMA", and not "Robot Bank Teller" friendly) receptionists, as well as 24hr coffee, techno, and wonderful people! They helped my stupid Canadian ass get situated in Berlin, as well as offered a functional, well maintained, laid back hostel!

I want to like this place, I really want to. The people who worked there were nice enough, and the…read morepeople who stayed there were fantastic, but there was so much that was wrong. First off, the things that were alright: It was tucked away off the street, but that was really alright because it seemed like an extra means of security. After a certain time at night you need to get buzzed into the courtyard to be let into the building, where you also have to be buzzed into. That's fine, I'm ok with it. The hostel is on the third floor of a building with no elevator. Didn't love that, but I could manage fine. There are 2 common rooms--one open to the public and another that takes a key card to get into. Beer, liquor, coffee, and water are available for purchase, as are S-Bahn and M-Bahn tickets, and for a discounted price to customers. Wifi is available, the rooms are large, the bathrooms and showers are enough that I was never waiting for shower or toilet. Sheets are new and clean for every bunk. Second, what was wrong with all of this: The stairwell and open common room reeked of cigarette smell, even though the windows were thrown wide open. So it wasn't smoke clogged, but the smell was pungent. I'm sure this is fine for some, as plenty of the residents were smokers and taking advantage and having a blast drinking and partying to the blaring music on the speakers, but for someone with asthma like myself, this was not OK. The second common room that required the key card was a buffer between the smoking and the dorm rooms, so that one didn't smell, and the dorm rooms were completely smoke free. There were plenty of couches, a foozeball table, and a TV that played movies on a loop, so this was a fun spot to just sit and talk with the other residents, charge our phones and computers, or jump on the wifi because it was fairly strong here. The wifi was incredibly temperamental, so that was frustrating, and I couldn't even get a signal from my bunk. Our room had eight bunks and two outlets, hence we sat out in that second common room to charge our stuff. It was also uncomfortably muggy. We opened our windows, but as they opened into a courtyard, there was absolutely no way to get a draft moving through our room. The air just hung still and hot, as there is no fan. The showers were push showers, which is fine and I can deal with them, but after about 3 pushes the water is incredibly hot; dare I say scalding? That's an exaggeration, but it is uncomfortably hot. And I was worried they wouldn't be warm. The place was clean, but smelly. The people were great, but it was obnoxious. Nothing was stolen and the hostel served it's purpose. For the price, I suppose it should get more stars, but I really can't bring myself to do it. I wouldn't stay here again, but I'm not this kind of hostel's ideal clientele, either. If you're a smoker and aren't relying on staying connected with the world, this place is probably perfect for you. For me, not so much.
