Geeze, was I starving. I already had The Annex Bar & Grill bookmarked. You will pass by it from the south if you're headed north going through the small town of Logan, NM. They have a really colorful mineral out front and there's a gas station and a convenience shop connected to it. The temperature outside was close to 100°F and dogs were not allowed inside so I had to leave my Jeep on with the air conditioner full blast while I had it inside to order. I was met by a mostly friendly hostess, but explained I wanted to get takeout so she guided me to the bar. The bartender took my order and encouraged me to buy a drink next-door in the convenience shop as they were larger and much cheaper. She was right. I settled on the Navajo Taco (Fry bread with refried beans, hamburger, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, smothered in your choice of sauce - which I went with green sauce = $12.99). I haven't had fried bread since I lived in Colorado and I had a Navajo apartment roommate. This large concoction was absolutely savory, fresh, and hot - and because it didn't have onions, I shared with my dog. She was very happy to do so! We drove down to the lake for a backseat picnic. This place is filled with locals, stopping in at midday on a Friday for a drink and gossip. I'd be interested to have a cocktail and maybe some brisket chili or more fry bread someday. Wide variety of seating arrangements. Very tall ceilings. Outdoor dining available too. So glad my order came out so quickly.

It was shortly after 8:30 AM on August 3, 2026, when I walked in without my dog as I assumed she would not be welcomed. The parking lot layout is a bit awkward - maybe the lines need repainting, but there were plenty of spaces. A few patrons were sitting a various tables or booths when I walked in. The counter service was friendly, but their baked goods are absolute fire. The only item I requested reheated was the crustless quiche that came with green chile, cheddar, and bacon ($5.95). This savory item was moist and heavenly. I had to decelerate myself in eating it. Lol. When I got home later that day, I munched on my peanut butter cookie ($2.25). I am a huge peanut butter fan so this was my favorite item. Imprinted with a Zia symbol, the cookie had a curious balance of softness and a light crunch. For my daughters, I splurged a bit on Dubai chocolate truffles ($6.95 each). They were much richer than the girls anticipated, but I enjoyed the bites I had. So many other items I wanted to try if only I had more time and stomach capacity... I'm a fan.

My wife went in to wait for the food. When it was ready, the other female there tried to charge her again. She wouldn't give my wife the food until she confirmed with the other woman we had paid. Do you really think someone is going to come to a modular building, in a dirt field/parking lot, 2.5 miles off of the highway, to scam you out of $23 in food? Seriously??? The quality of the cheeseburgers made this a 3-star. Otherwise, 2-stars. Still I would recommend you buying some pop tarts at the gas station and save yourself about 40 minutes of travel time.

On on the outer walls are colorful murals and ample parking welcoming you inside. The shop itself is small, but the folks here on July 31, 2026 were very friendly and fast. All I bought was a large Sprite ($1.94) from the fountain area. The ice was the large chunky variety that I am not crazy about. Lol. Still, this was way cheaper than if I had bought my drink at the restaurant. Many coolers of drinks, snacks, tobacco, and the usual you would see at a quick shop.

We were there with our camper in tow, so we opted to take our food to-go and eat it in the camper. The food though was outstanding. The really deliver on the spice level that you ask for. Outstanding!
