Lol. It was a delicious sweet treat to beat the heat. They sell lots of other drink items and snacks. I also requested a pup cup for my dog waiting in the air-conditioned Jeep. That set me back $8. I DIGRESS... There was a variety of seating arrangements. The chairs had really cool upholstery beckoning to the 50s era in the area. One dish in particular caught my eyes: Southwest chicken fried steak ($19.49). I had it with green sauce. I almost chose Christmas style - red and green sauce. The green beans and mashed potatoes with cream gravy were just fine. So was the roll. The steak was mostly tender, savory, and hearty. It was shortly after 8:30 AM on August 3, 2026, when I walked in without my dog as I assumed she would not be welcomed. The parking lot layout is a bit awkward - maybe the lines need repainting, but there were plenty of spaces. A few patrons were sitting a various tables or booths when I walked in. The counter service was friendly, but their baked goods are absolute fire. The only item I requested reheated was the crustless quiche that came with green chile, cheddar, and bacon ($5.95). This savory item was moist and heavenly. I had to decelerate myself in eating it. Lol. When I got home later that day, I munched on my peanut butter cookie ($2.25). I am a huge peanut butter fan so this was my favorite item. Imprinted with a Zia symbol, the cookie had a curious balance of softness and a light crunch. For my daughters, I splurged a bit on Dubai chocolate truffles ($6.95 each). They were much richer than the girls anticipated, but I enjoyed the bites I had. So many other items I wanted to try if only I had more time and stomach capacity... I'm a fan.

Especially the chicken salad- but I am still dreaming about that chicken salad four months later, he mixes some mustard in it and the flavor is out of this world. We took our orders to go and ate them while wading in Ute Lake and that is such a great family memory from our trip. When we get back to Tucumcari I can't wait to order two chicken salad subs this time. There is no substitute!

Ordered the combination plate. Again was expecting over the top spice since I am in NM. The green sauce was medium spicy, almost not spicy enough for me, not very thick you could taste the broth. The red was good too! Barbacoa very flavorful. Beans and rice like my tia used to make! I am a stickler for grefried beans! Authentic! Plenty of food! I visited on a Monday evening, around 5pm. That's usually the time us old folks eat. I had no issue getting a table. Promptly seated, I ordered a beer and my dinner. The menu is a good mix, something for everyone. I ordered the Chili Rellenos. Of course I ordered that. Hey, when in Rome..... My meal was served quick and hot. Waiting a minute to cool was definitely in the cards. No problem, I had my beer, salsa and chips to occupy me while the steam settled. After a bit, I dug in. First fork was the rice. Oh, was that rice ever good! The only problem was that there wasn't enough. I suggest that you order a side of that glorious grain. Fantastic! The refried beans, well, were ok, but just ok. The Hatch greenies, as you'd expect, were outstanding and very flavorful. I ordered them Christmas style, with green and red sauce. Both of those condiments were tasty, but of the two, the green sauce stood out. Boy did it ever. I'll be dreaming of that sauce later tonight. Hopefully my girlfriend doesn't pop into the picture.....OR, maybe she should! LoL, now that would be a dream! Don't worry about parking, as there is more than ample. You can park in the front, the back, either side, and if you're driving a big rig, pulling a trailer, or driving a tank, they've got you covered. Across the street is special parking for those vehicles. More parking outside than tables inside. Pay La Cita a visit for a romantic dinner, or as I did, by yourself....my dream trend may have helped with that. Hey, I may be old, but certainly not dead! The regular lemonade was hands-down the best I've ever had--exactly how lemonade should taste: perfectly balanced, tart and sweet, and incredibly refreshing. Their homemade syrups really set them apart, and the strawberry purée in the lemonade was sweet and delicious. My wife is a sweet tea snob, and even she was thoroughly impressed with theirs. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and we loved that they offer a discount on refills if you bring your cup back. All in all, a fantastic experience during a less-than-ideal weekend. We'll definitely be on the lookout for Frost 5 next time we're in Tucumcari!
