Finding a parking was a definite sign we picked the right place! We were greeted with a friendly welcome and seated immediately! We ordered the salsa and chips for starters and I chose the "Ultimate Burger". The chips and salsa were great. Salsa tasted homemade! My burger and French fries arrived and it was large enough to share. Very tasty with just the right amount of green chili heat! When we ordered I was informed they were out of my first two choices - Indian Frybread taco & Stuffy (stuffed sopapilla. Boyfriend ordered frito pie & she came back a few minutes later to say they were out of Fritos! Why doesn't someone just go to the store? We should have left. He ended up getting a burrito smothered Christmas. He lived in New Mexico, has eaten NM food in other states & said this was the worst NM food he ever had. The chile was watery & lacking in flavor. My chile rellenos were different than I'm used to - instead of the egg & flour coating it was like a shake n bake breading. It was okay but not great. Loretta's- WOW!! Best salsa since La Familia in LFK. On Route 66 and SO GOOD. Dave had the breakfast tacos with green sauce and I had the kids taco and beans. Perfect amount. Local man sitting next to us said he used to buy burritos from Loretta's car when they were in school. How fun to be around that kind if history. If you want truly authentic Mexican food, with some wonderful service then Loretta's is your place. Small family owned restaurant serving you homemade food that is delicious. Portion sizes are average but filling. There prices are average and you cannot beat the variety of food to pick from on there menu. Everything is amazing. There homemade guacamole is to die for. I love Loretta's Burrito Hut, the food is awesome and the service is very friendly. My favorite burrito is the beef and potato burrito with green Chiles. It's very tasty and if you're not quite ready for a breakfast burrito in the morning I suggest the breakfast tacos. It is 3 tacos on corn tortillas with egg, potato your choice of bacon, ham or sausage, I liked the bacon. No matter what it is good! Please support local businesses like Loretta's while on the road. We are five miles down the road after eating at Loretta's and we are still talking about how good it was, so decided to leave a review. Don't pass up the chance to eat here! I had the enchilada burrito (red sauce) and it was flavorful and delicious. The best burrito I've ever had. My husband had a beef and bean burrito with green chile sauce and it was also very good. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of options in the small town of Tucumcari. This looked like a cute little place. Staffing service was incredible. However, the food was Soso. I don't think I've had green chili with ground beef before? Again wasn't bad but wasn't good either. The enchilada burrito sounded like a interesting and fun choice but unfortunately very bland. Chips and salsa were decent. If you're in a pinch, give it a go. But I would venture somewhere else if you really into food. read more

Checked out places and this Mexican restaurant had the highest reviews. Unfortunately you could tell they were short staffed. Also the waitress wasn't very friendly. Only one of the three of us had the correct order given to us. The plates were tossed in front of us and then she took off. Never came back to see if we needed anything. I even asked when she gets a moment can I ask her a question. Due to our drink orders being wrong. she replied with, "sure when I get a moment" (a bit sarcastic). Then never returned. Unfortunately I think this has everything to do with short staffed and she was running around by herself. But the quality of the food and the service were so poor I can't suggest this place to anyone I know. Find another place for a friendly meal. read more

Saw their billboard on the freeway as we were heading from the Midwest back home to Arizona. Gave them a try and as another reviewer said, wow! Friendly staff and welcoming little place. Didn't grab photos because we were showing down immediately! Called in our order about :10 out. Found them on Yelp while driving through. Had the brisket taquitos and the chicken burrito. AND they have a sign on the door saying "Out of Order" even though the bathroom works just fine- they just want to have it for employees only.
