Serina was aware of the status of my hair. I showed up on time for my 8:30am appt and I had to wait an entire hour before Serina even started my hair. When I finally got to the sink, she was on and off the phone throughout washing my hair. At one point she stopped and went into the break room to finish her call while I sat with shampoo sitting in my hair. While detangling my hair Serina stops and tells me that it will be an additional $20 because I have natural hair. She said she thought I had a relaxer. I never said I had a relaxer, I expressed that I had just grown my hair out from a buzz cut and I walked into the shop with an afro. It seemed like she just got tired of combing and decided to charge me more money on the spot. This natural hair charge did not include ANY conditioning treatment. After months of a natural style your hair should be deep conditioned, especially before putting heat on your natural hair for the first time. Serina was also aware that I detangled my hair before I came. So I was charged for having natural hair after doing most of the work for it. I had originally come in for a new hair cut and changed my mind. I asked her to just trim the ends and I'll style it myself later. She told me that the way I wanted to style my hair would not look good if she trimmed all of my dead ends (not an opinion I asked for) She also insisted that I try a different cut that I knew I wouldn't like. I had to say no several times before she stopped. She then only trims some of my dead ends but still charges me the full $20 for that part of the service. I still had greenish ends from dying my buzz cut (see below). I spent $105 for a service that damaged my natural hair and I still have dead ends. I believe a $40 refund would be appropriate for the surprise charge and incomplete trim. This is why natural haired folks don't trust salons. We just do it ourselves. My mother frequents this salon for a different stylist. She has asked Serina about this incident. She suggested that I would do much better with a relaxer (poisonous chemicals) in my hair. Serina also claims that she gave me a discount on my ends being trimmed. During the appt I was told a full cut was $40 and just dead ends would be $20. I was not given any discount on the half done service. Serina also claims that it would've been an additional $40 on top of the $20 natural hair fee for a deep conditioning. Something she didn't even mention/offer to me during the appt. And this is 30 years of experience?? I would've spent $80 before my hair was even dry IF she chose to tell me all of my options to actually care for my hair.
