Coming from Gastonia we stop in Belmont to grab a bite at The String Bean.First it was raining so outside was out of the question.Just in the door The String Bean is a sorta long narrow building.To your left a row of booth's small high tables and the bar which host their craft beers.To the left far end some really nice quiet tables for a little more private dining experience. Also a very full choice of what appeared to be an extensive wine choices.Right in the very middle just behind register The String Bean sells choice cuts of Ribeye,Filets,Salmon,chicken,Bacon from Wisconsin ( that was 14.99 a lb) Scollop's and their loaded baked potatoes.No onto our meal.During our drink order looking at their menu I requested their deep fried pickles.Sure glad I did.It was a thick slice dill pickle that came with some ranch.We both ordered a burger that was an 8oz patty with the Wisconsin bacon crumble up in the meat.I got their hand cut fries.My son got their duck fries which I later learned was cooked in duck oil.They both came out with what appeared to be a course ground Sea Salt.Fries where great.Or burgers where cooked to order.Both had Let Tom and The String Bean's signature sauce.If I had just thought to get grilled onions.These burgers where great to the last bite.Our experience was great. read more

This place is a gem! Must visit in Belmont! Staff was very nice & service was on point. I loved that they had their own meat counter & the vibes inside were so cute. String lights everywhere, cozy & casual. We sat outside which was also really clean & they had fire pits outside for tables (such a nice touch). Me and wife wanted to have date night and we decided to head down the street in Belmont to The String Bean. Upon arriving I noticed that that everyone was sitting outside so I was going to be extremely comfortable. When walking in they have local beers set up in coolers and on the shelves which was great for me. We were seated and I started enjoying my beer and we ordered our food. My wife ordered the cowpig burger which she absolutely loved and I ordered a fried chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. The wrap was SOOOOO delicious and filling that my wife even commented that she hasn't seen me make a face like that in a while. I'll definitely be back for both the beers and the food. The food wasn't the best but it was tasty. The waiter was offended that I didn't love the shrimp and grits. He kept insisting that these were the best in Charlotte. They were not too my taste. Service is excellent. Everyone on staff very accommodating and helpful. The gentleman helping out with the alcohol selection was knowledgeable and found the perfect drink for my husband. There is a $2 up charge on in house alcohol which is odd. The sweet potato fries are delicious but both my husband and I found our sandwiches were a bit bland. Such a great little local spot in Belmont! The String Bean boasts a fantastic food menu, a great variety of wine and beer, and both indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a market and butcher shop in the same space so you can get meat, seafood and wine and beer to go! It's one of my favorite spots to take out of town guests or to grab food with my fiancé. Love love love the food here! The menu is pretty extensive and includes some great apps, sandwiches and southern style entrees. I'm obsessed with their Jive Turkey salad. It is huge and loaded with turkey, cranberry goat cheese, walnuts and veggies with a honey mustard vinaigrette- yum! My fiancé always gets the Southwest Chicken Wrap. We love their sweet potato fries on the side. Their burgers and flatbreads are always yummy, too! Definitely check out The String Bean if you are in the Belmont area! Sadly, the String Bean is not promoting social distancing during the global pandemic. It's unfortunate that we won't be able to go back when things open up. They have "fixed tables" so they can't seems to move the unfixed chairs so folks continue to congregate putting their staff and patrons at risk. If that's the outside I can't imagine the inside when restrictions are relaxed. In such a small town with more and more options, doing the right thing even when no one is looking is important. read more

Great location, but parking can be tricky on this side of downtown Belmont. Food is a tad overpriced for the quality (expected better based on word of mouth recommendations from friends who've lived in the area for years); the shrimp and grits will "put hair on your chest" from the amount of pepper. (Have learned to get satiate my shrimp and grits cravings at another downtown Belmont establishment.) But, overall, the atmosphere and interior design are fantastic. I was really excited to eat here. I met up with a friend, the menu has a lot to pick from but over all food, really skimpy on how much they put on. One piece of tomato on each side of the sandwich and barely any cheese. Probably the worst Tomato Caprese sandwich I've ever had. Also it said sour dough bread. That bread was grilled cheese bread. This was my first time visiting this location. Its in downtown Belmont NC and the mainstreet area is very vibrant with numerous shops and eateries. I was part of a party of 3 and when I arrived the other two members were already seated in a comfortable patio area outside. Our waitress was "Samantha S" and she came to our table quickly and took.pur order. Although she did seem attentive she did incorrectly record my order. I ordered a burger; "The Cowpig". 8oz Bacon infused Certified Angus Beef blend patty, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, chipotle mayo, brioche bun. The entree that our waitress brought was " The Chickenpig" Crispy chicken breast, pepper jack cheese, pepper bacon, lettuce, tomato, chipotle mayo, brioche. Samantha didn't offer to retrieve my correct order but only stated, "It's really a good sandwich". I opted to try the Chickenpig sandwich and it was good but nothing special. We had been wanting to try this local joint for a while. When we drove by and saw the lights and the fire pits outside it caught our eye! Inside you'll find rows of wine/beer and a butcher shop and prepared foods/some baked goods. To the left is then seating area/bar. There's plenty of seating inside and outside on their beautiful patio. We grabbed beers from the self-serve coolers in the store area. TIP: they do add a "corkage fee /extra fee" on top of the prices for consuming them at the table. They are the prices listed on them if you take them to go. We did not realize that and had an extra 2/per beer on our tab. The waitress was super sweet and explained it. Next time we will order from draft and not have that charge. Wish we had known prior but oh well, Learn from our mistake! Food and service was amazing!! The eggplant fries were delicious. I found out about this place from a friend several years ago, and it has since become a staple of a place that me and the hubby go to. I also like to bring friends or out of town guests here, as it is consistently good! The bar area is great if you are here alone or grabbing food to go (or the wait is too long for a table). Their patio area is a must if the weather is nice. One of my absolute favorite is the BLFT, but you almost cannot go wrong. You can tell the food is fresh and made to order. Make sure to always ask about their specials if they didn't tell you, as they have quite the variety of specials from time to time. Not only has this place become one of our regular spots when we eat out, but also one of our spots to pick up or order wine! Pops is so helpful if you don't know what you want and need a suggestion, or if you are trying to find a specific bottle or type. They host events (you usually have to register in advance, but you can get on the emailing list) for wine tastings, wine pairing etc. Make sure to give this place a chance! My book club decided to meet here for dinner on 9/21/23. The food wasn't as good this time around. I felt disappointed because I recommended this place, since the last time I ate here was excellent. The eggplant fries are my favorite. My friend had the fish and chips, the fish was fried to where it was burnt. I'm not sure if they were short staffed. We got there at around 6:50pm didn't get our food until after 8pm. Asked for the manager, he bought our food to the table but when told how long we waited to get our food, he was passive aggressive and condescending. He really didn't care! Our waiter was nice and apologetic. The people behind us got their food before us. They probably got there after 7:00p. When we looked at the large menu, I immediately wanted to order about half of it. We decided to get a ton of appetizers and share them as a group. We got the duck fat fries, the BBQ egg rolls, the potato skins, the fig and goat cheese flatbread, the quesadilla, the fried green tomatoes, the shrimp, the slider trio, and the pimento cheese. The only thing that was disappointing was the pimento cheese. The rest was incredibly good. My favorites were the flatbread, the egg rolls, the shrimp, and the duck fat fries. Along with the restaurant, the other side is a little market with a large beer and wine selection. We came around 3 so it wasn't crowded and we don't have to wait, but it did get crowded closer to dinner. We truly enjoy coming here each time we are in town. The variety of food, craft beer, and wine is second to none. They have several choices for those vegetarians out there, which we are included. This time we ordered the gorgonzola pear salad, the Godfather pizza (our company ordered this one), and Figgylicious pizza. All were quite tasty, especially the figgy pizza, which has become my new fave. The food did take a bit longer than expected to be served. This place fills fast so try to enjoy during a slower time. Immediately upon entering there was clear confusion & frustration between the host staff and other guests being seated. This set a poor tone. Our waitress took some time getting to us to provide drinks so we were ready to order on her first visit. I noticed confusion at the table behind us where a bigger party was seated regarding the items on individuals checks. Once our food arrived by a separate food runner we were unsatisfied with the amount of fish given with the tacos. We are reasonable people, it could have been resolved easily. But the waitress did not attend our table again until bringing the check, so we had to opt for getting the attention from another server who was not friendly or eager to help us out. We just simply asked for our server or the manager in hopes to 1. See if the amount of fish provided was normal & if so 2. Ask for an additional side of fish even if needing to purchase it. Minutes later the manager came over with a short and defensive attitude, failed to resolve the issue, and didn't even acknowledge our empty glasses on the table. I ordered a gift card. I was double charged. I called and asked if 2 cards had been sent and they could not answer me. After investigation, yes they sent 2. They did NOT do the proper thing. They notified the recipient after I told them not to, canceled the second card and credited me. I said not to. I am so angry and embarrassed to have the person receive a card then take it away. Found this wonderful little spot while traveling through. As soon as we pulled up the fireside patio was very inviting. The inside was a comfy, home cozy feeling. The lunch menu we had was excellent. Fish & chips and a Cheese Steak w/au jus. Had a side of roasted brussel sprouts. Fantastic. Took a slice of blueberry cheesecake to go and was not disappointed. Was so satisfied, I got a fresh cobb salad to take home and eat. (2hours away). Service was just as great. Friendly & attentive. If you don't stop in, it's your loss. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience we had at this gem in Belmont! We went on a Saturday for dinner before going to a friend's house in the area. It is a great one stop shop for everything! There's wine and beer for sale to consume on site or take home, and a butcher's station with all the main staples. Our first dining in at this restaurant. We liked the hometown feel and market place ambience. There are many meat and seafood options that can be cooked to order. The selections on the precooked/prepared menu was limited. There were a lot of people dining inside and on the patio (with outdoor heaters) and it was on a weeknight. That tells me it's a local favorite. The waitstaff was friendly and welcoming and there are a number of treats and dog related items that can be purchased and taken home. I'd request extra thousand island on the side for my Reuben sandwich if I ordered it again. I wanted the shrimp and dumplings but they were out of it. I hope to try it in the future. read more

Interesting place that is part beer shop, butcher and restaurant. The name does not suggest the type of food they serve which is more burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas. They do have some interesting takes on southern dishes like chicken & dumpling gnocchi. The parking is limited so be prepared to do a bit of walking. They were serving brunch on our visit but prices seemed a bit too high so we opted for the regular menu. We got the cowpig burger with sweet potato fries and string bean bistro burger with pasta salad. I ordered my burger medium but came out well done so it was dry. Hey Gang This place has it going on, Live Music, fresh Food, Good Food, service is Okay. They put some young fellas to work as bussers but unfortunately gave them no training on how to wipe off tables, so they would just wipe pushing food into the chairs and on the ground near the chairs. This does not hurt the business just more of an inconvenience. Parking can be miserable but, park a few blocks down, and check out the Historic Area on your way up. Beautiful! They hire a lot of youngsters for service (Everyone is young to me lol) and there are no "Seasoned Servers to Explain how to be better" but they plod along and set down some wonderful food and have a wonderful little specialty grocery. Sounds like I am being hard on them and I am not just tweaking what could make this place even better. After or before go to Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens and Enjoy the day.
