When I first arrived in Bellingham last year, Persnickety Designs was having a grand opening. A…read morebooth--with the owner of the business--was set up at the local farmers' market (which, by the way, you have to go to while in Bellingham). I was instantly enthralled by the hand made vinyl bags in all different shapes and sizes. I promptly began pleading with my mother to buy me one of the aptly shaped messenger bags for school. No such luck. Coming back a year later, I discovered that Persnickety Designs had prospered while I was gone--a whole new location and a second grand opening! The owner/ designer had come out with two new lines, and the store had become a chic bag shop with bright colors and a sense of attractiveness overall. This year, my messenger bag was meant to be. Of course, I could have picked one of the pre-made ones, but Persnickety Designs is great for making sure you get what you want. Aside from the bag's actual body build, I "made" the entire thing! Getting a bag custom made is only $5 more than the original price and adding fabric pockets on the inside is $10 more. Admittedly, the bags are slightly pricey because you're paying for something hand made--but let me assure you they are well worth it. While I used a design already in production, it is perfectly possible to create your own design (that is simple), and I am looking forward to making another bag soon. The First time I came in I needed a box to ship a snowboard, I assumed I would have to buy one, but they looked for me but couldn't find a specific snowboard box so brought me out some ski boxes tape and scissors! Mind you I had never been here or shopped here before I couldn't believe how gracious they were! Not to mention I had a friendly dog hanging around as I was building the box! So rad! The next time I had to sell some of my gear to pay a bill and the guy working in the gear section could feel my pain and gave me a really solid deal that he really didn't have to! This place is special In Bellingham and the people who work here have to be the best spirited team in any shop around town. Well it was going ok till I got to check out, but I'll start at the beginning- they do not have…read moreenough carts for starters, they have 3 or 4 total and then a few flat bed trolly carts which isn't easy for those with limited mobility, but while that was annoying it wasn't a deal breaker- some of the stuff is a good deal especially if you don't have a Costco membership but it's still pretty comparable to Safeway/winco if you are good with clipping coupons- obviously this place is more for bulk and such but has a lot for the ordinary house hold- found my coffee syrups and a few other things and headed to the register- we did start at the little red triangle that says line starts here but as lines go just kept following the person in front of me- now the cashier stepped away dealing with the customers in front of me (who i was following from the red triangle sign) she comes back looks at me and says the line starts at the red triangle, trying to signal me to move to the back of the line- that wasn't gonna happen, I said yeah I know I just moved forward- got a blank stare and she continued with the customer in front of me- when I got to the reg like 1.5mins later it was very lack luster in service, I did decline a small box but would have though she could have helped loaded my few items into the cart to help move the process and as I walk with a mobility aid which takes one of hands, help out a person who has limited mobility but I'm assuming since she thought I cut the line even tho I didn't she wanted to have a tude about it which sucks cus we were talking about coming back and stocking up on a few things that peaked our interest but I'll go to winco and Costco if this is how your gonna treat your customers-

So we headed to Launching Success and wow, did we have fun. I hadn't been to LS for several years - but was thrilled to find they still carry the same, high quality games, toys, books, supplies and other things to support homeschooling and home learning. Our first stop was at their fidget toy display, where my daughter picked out a couple of nice things to "play" with and help keep her focused during her days of Zoom classes. Next, we checked out some of their awesome art materials before heading to what I call the "teacher zone". This area of the store is FULL of all that cool stuff you see around your kid's classroom and you wonder where they got it. Well, they probably got it here! From posters to banners to you-name-it this room almost inspired me to return to college for my teaching certificate. (Hey, I said ALMOST.) While many of the items in this area are geared towards real classroom use (like signs about rules, or birthday lists) we found a couple of inspiring signs to put up around my teen's desk, as well as some organizational bins for pens and other supplies.
