I have not been to the store in person (yet), but made an online purchase which went really well. My brother loves unique socks, and they carried some brands that I've purchased before from various places - Blue Q and Sock it to Me, for example. The socks were shipped and received very quickly, despite it being a busy time of year for online orders. I needed a gift for a work "ugly sock exchange" (though I went more cute and quirky) and happened to draw my sushi-loving best friend. They are ModSock brand and so adorable. I'm always working on building up my novelty sock collection, but usually this means ordering online, more or less sight unseen. It's so great to go to a store like Modsock and actually get to see all the patterns and colors in person before plunking down up to $10 a pair! Modsock is a colorful, spacious store with racks of novelty socks running all the way around the walls, loosely organized by color or theme -- but you'll definitely want to browse through them all! There are some local-ish brands like Sock It To Me, plus brands I've never seen before, as well as designs you don't see in other online sock stores. It was agonizing to choose just a couple of pairs, but the Airstream-camper-themed socks were so unique I couldn't pass them up! Service was friendly and pleasant; I didn't feel like she was following us with her eyes around the store, which sometimes happens when you're the only customers in a little shop. Modsock offers a punch card where the 11th (I think) pair is free, which I would certainly take advantage of if I lived in the area. Prices were fair, maybe a little more than you're used to paying for solid-color socks, but definitely in line with other novelty-sock stores I've been to... still, be ready to pay $6 and up for their sassy socks. They have men's, women's, and kids' socks, plus some tights and thigh-his and so on, but mainly it's just SOCKS. Talk about socks for days! I can not believe there is actually a market for a "SOCK" store. Seems crazy. We made plans to go after seeing some gals inside of Kulshan Brewing wearing some "BEER" socks. After asking where she got them we made a plan to hit it up before we left town. Talk about a wide variety of socks. A lot of crazy socks! Unicorns, owls, bikes, rainbows, birds, apples... you name it... they probably have it. There is a whole section of socks with words on them. Like; BITCH, NERD, BRIDE, GROOM, BEER, COUGAR, REDNECK..... Fun! Get ready to shell out $10 for ONE pair though. Yes, $10. I must admit I could've bought at least 4 pairs, but I can't justify $40 on 4 pairs of socks. If they were about $4 a pair, I could see buying 10 pairs. But that isn't happening... so $10 a pair it is! And needless to say I only bought ONE pair. The BEER ones that I came for! read more

I found socks covered in swordferns! I got myself a pair with pretty deer on them! I saw just about everything possible in there. The whole place is covered wall to wall floor to ceiling in socks. ModSock is awesome for a few reasons: 1) They are an affordable & unique gift option for any occasion--for men or women. Everybody loves to get a pair of novelty socks! 2) They are locally owned and located in the precious downtown core of Bellingham--I love to support businesses who choose to be downtown. 3) They are not too expensive considering alternative gift options. I was drawn in by the amazing window display. It was the leg lamp from "A Christmas Story" FRAGILE! This store sells socks. Ankle socks, knee socks, thigh socks, sassy socks and themed socks, if you are looking for a sock they most likely have what you need. They also sell 2 other non-sock items. A cozy for your beverages and hand warmers. I treated myself to a pair of sassy socks. And I think I will make Modsock a Bellingham ritutal. Everytime I visit I get a new pair of socks. read more

It is fun to look but once you go there and check it out there did not seem to be amazing socks. I did buy some as I was theme-ing socks for Christmas. Awesome store. I am a huge fan of quirky socks, and this place is a treasure trove. I would love to see them carry more "plus size" socks (because, yes, if you are a big girl or an athlete, your calves can be bigger than most and average sized socks will be tight). I was pleased to see that they carry most of the socks I order from Sock Dreams now, including a wide assortment of stripes and floral patterns. When my online order for crazy accessory day at work had a delayed delivery date, I racked my brain to think of somewhere I could get a fun pair of socks or tights quickly- ModSock to the rescue! I wandered around and marveled at walls lined with fun patterned knee-highs. At only $10 a pair (seriously- some boutiques would charge double), these are a steal. They also have crew socks ($8) in all kinds of fun designs, and some pairs of tights ($12-26). I finally settled on a fun solar system pair of socks and was headed to the register when I spotted some Ouija board knee highs and swapped them out. This store is so much fun! When I walked in, I was mentally picking out birthday presents for family members. They have a wide variety of patterns and styles...there is something for every personality. I was reading the label socks (ones that had adjectives on them like "Jock" or "Pretty") and I quipped, "I wonder if they have one labeled "broke" because that's what I am!" We laughed, but on our way out, I found a pair that said "broke." They have everything. It is a bit spendy though if you're broke like me, but fun. Comfort is the key for me with socks. I asked about cashmere blends and was shown a very limited selection of one style at the front. There are walls of novelty socks. The vast majority of them are polyester. There are some wool, cotton and cotton blend. Most are more for a novelty rather than fashion design. You are more likely to find Bart Simpson than a quality Argyle. The vast majority of the socks are for women. If you are looking to find high quality socks with design choices you may be disappointed. If you want to buy a pair of kooky socks to make a statement you are in the right place. They have some lifetime guaranteed socks, but the thought of having a pair of socks that last forever scares me. The price point is a little rough but it's worth supporting local. The two people working there were extremely helpful. They even looked up something for me that was totally unrelated to their retail business. It is a fun bright store but if I'm looking to buy some seriously comfortable quality socks for daily wear I'm going elsewhere. We did pick up a pair of cashmere blend. read more

this is a long review because it's a frustrating issue: tl;dr - the return policy doesn't allow for having tried on a sock - so make sure to repackage the items you'll return, take them back within the 14 day period, and lie and say you never tried them on. I love a good pair of socks, and this place is right around the corner from where I work so when I walked by the first time and realized what it was, I went in and bought a super cute pair of really tall leg warmers. I've been back to buy other pairs 3 times now, I love all the wacky styles and wear them all the time. when I was in the market for some of those 2-stripe-at-the-top-sport socks, but in knee-high style, I obviously went there first. I love supporting local businesses and a place like this, yep first place I check. I walk in, the girl behind the counter, Alannah, she greeted me and was nice. I described the pair I was looking for, and she pointed me towards some that came up mid-calf height so I picked those up. I then asked her if she had any thigh high leg warmers. she pointed me to the rack on the wall where they hang, and I picked out one of the 2 all black pair they had that looked narrow, and thinner. I looked at one pair, felt the material, and switched to the other black pair that looked longer, and had a knit pattern to them, when I picked them up Alannah who was standing right there at the cashier spot close by said "I'm actually wearing those now, they are really soft, comfy, don't roll down". She, being like 50lbs lighter than me, had much thinner legs. I asked "do you think these would pull up and not have an issue on my legs?" (i kind of put my leg out to make it less weird for her to look at it) she replied "ya totally, they are very stretchy and not an issue at all" i asked about how far they come up, if they easily run or get the little ball things you have to pick off, etc- basically the general questions I've learned to ask over the years of being an avid tall-sock buyer, and knowing the issues that can pop up if you don't get the right ones. She answered all my questions and said "if you don't like them just come back, that other brand *points at others on the wall I'd originally picked up and traded out* is good too" I bought both pairs, total was just under 40 bucks. I paid, left, and went home. tried on one of each sock, and no, they are not fitting me right, the leg warmers come up to my knee (whereas they went about 2 inches over hers) because the width of my leg changed the way the material sat. I fold them back with each other, tuck my receipt into the paper they were packed in. the next day - I go back in, yay Alannah is working! I'll exchange for the pair she said was another good one - perfect! I go up to the cashier spot where she was standing again and set the 2 pairs down and start to say "they didn't come up as high as yours due to the knit, I'm going to exchange them". she didn't smile, make eye contact, didn't even turn her whole body towards me, it felt like an auto response she had ready to go. "we don't take returns or exchanges on things that have been worn" I blank stare at her "you don't take exchanges on anything? these are socks that I had sizing questions on, remember me from yesterday? I had questions about the sizing and length?" "no, sorry. it says it on the receipt" I look at the receipt, it says nothing "unworn", exchange only within 14 days. I look back at her, "ya, no, I didn't wear these, I tried one on because, as explained yesterday, I have questions about fit. You literally said bring them back if I didn't like them. what does that even mean in regards to not trying on a sock I had a sizing question on?" she said "look, I don't make the rules. it's on the receipt. unworn. it's a sanitary thing" I said "of course I get that, ya, it's unsanitary if someone wore the sock around. but when I had asked you about the socks yesterday, you offered I could change them out for those other ones. I'm back to do that, this is a sock store. I literally had to try them on to know" "sorry" so, really long story short that is more for my venting and the store owners to read than for you than anything, I'm really irritated. spent $40 on socks that had originally been offered up as exchangeable, and yes of course, I did not read the receipt. But frankly, it feels deceptive to go about selling things that way. I had numerous sizing questions, they were answered to the best of her abilities, offered that exchanges WERE an option, but not filled in on the extremely important part that if you admit to having tried them on, you won't get your money back. If you're not sure 100% know that you're going to want to keep your $10 pair of socks $30 pair of leg warmers, don't bother. Or if you do shop here, make sure to repackage the items you'll return, take them back within the 14 day period, and lie and say you never tried them on.
