I have always loved Sojourn in Downtown Bellingham, it is an upscale boutique with brands such as Free People. They do a great job of keeping a seasonally rotating collection and a decent sale section. I usually cannot get enough of their clothes, but this past time I went, I didn't find as much as I usually do. They have a nice collection of sweater and winter clothes but I am not a huge fan of some of the newer brands they have gotten in the store. They are well laid out and keep a great aesthetic in the store. The women working at Sojourn are all friendly and helpful and they are being extra cautious with the amount of people in the store. read more

Walked into this store today to Browse for cute clothes we saw in the window. Was appalled by the service by the owner herself who continued to follow us around the store and rudely tell us to not touch any of her stuff because it was a "standard" in most stores including Trader Joe's. Which I have touched things in Trader Joe's before and never been yelled at before for touching there things. We took a photo with 2 of the tiaras and took a cute photo and was then rudely bombarded by the lady again and told we were disrespecting her store and that she clearly had a sign telling us no photography. She then showed us the smallest hand written sign in the world that was barely legible. I had the worst experience in this store since my time moving up here and I will never be going back!!!!!! read more

I love the selection in this boutique! They have so many fabulous items. I would say that their strong point is accessories. My critiques here are: 1. Limited sizing-While I love their clothes, they don't have many items over a size 6. 2. Layout-the store is somewhat hard to navigate. You have to search for your items. 3. I worked at Sojourn on and off since 2005 and to this day every time I go into the store I am amazed by all the beautiful things that the owner, Peggy, buys for the store. I think that she does a good job at getting a range of price points, from $20-$40 items to more expensive items from $100-$160. The jewelry is definitely affordable and I own many hats and scarves from here. I still wear many of the items that I bought back in 2005 and 2006! It goes to show that buying nice things are worth it because they last the strands of time! read more

There were so many cute things here - I definitely wanted to try at least 4 dresses on. I felt like it was kind of a hit-or-miss store as there were a few fashion trends that I definitely don't have the cajones to represent (high waisted shorts, for instance) but some of their skirts, dresses, tops and purses/wallets were adorable. They also had some fun hats that I loved as well. There was a huge price discrepancy though - some things were reasonable and others were pretty expensive - but definitely a place to search for a good find! Next time I'm in Bellingham I'd definitely come back! read more

I was so disappointed by the quality of material and by their customer service when I brought issues to their attention. I purchased $80 pants that shriveled up after hand washing and air-drying once. When I showed them what happened, they were firm on their no-return policy (even though these pants are unwearable after one wash). I adore the styles that they carry, but after this (and a couple other pieces where similar things happened) I will not be shopping here anymore. It was a waste of money. read more

A rare and small shop with designer finds in Bellingham is truly a diamond in the rough. Whenever I walk past their gorgeous window displays on Railroad Ave and am completely lured inside. Initially it might feel shocking to see such insanely pricy items in this wee town, but if you close your eyes and pretend you're in a designer boutique in Seattle, suddenly everything becomes reasonable. I thought the service was attentive and friendly, though I was definitely taken aback that they wouldn't hold a $69 tank for 2 hours...a touch strange for a higher boutique establishment. That would truly be my only gripe. Definitely lovely staff however. And thoughtful in their recommendations. Where else can you find a one-of-a-kind Free People silk cami with splurge worthy lace detailing in this town?? Their bralettes will make you feel like royalty. I am giving Sojourn 4 stars because I think its a retail gem in a city not so interested in designer clothing. I have never bought myself anything from sojourn because I am a male, but I have purchased a few dresses and articles of clothing for my girlfriend and have gotten relatively cheap jewelry here to give as gifts to both my mom and girlfriend. I think Sojourn has a good range of labels and prices, obviously there keystone label being Free People, which I think no designer label could better fit in Bellingham, and nothing is cuter then a girl in a nice dress. Being from Seattle where there is more than enough shopping options, this store was a perfect find upon moving to bellingham. Yes, some items in this store are more expensive then the pieces you might find a few blocks up at Buffalo Exchange, but what did you expect for designer clothing? As far as service, I haven't had any problems yet. I have always been helped by the same lady, who is older but I don't believe she is the owner, Peggy. I have enjoyed conversations with her while my girlfriend picked out a dress and she has been more then happy to help with returns / exchanges / sizes. Im not denying that some have experienced lower quality service but this has not been my experience. Great store, very unique and one of a kind for Bellingham. read more

This is a chicy boutique. Such cute stuff. Really nice clothes. Free People, BCBG... Really fun wallets, jewelry, hats. If your rolling in the mullah, go here. If not, save up some green to get yourself a treat. This would be a great place to get a dress for a special occasion. The earrings I bought for a friend at Sojourn were $16. Many of the basic earrings were $16-$18. There were several dresses and shirts I say for $108. Seeing over $100's on the price tag is not novelty here. If you're looking for more basic wear and don't want to spend that much then walk down the street to Re-threads. I'll even give you the address. 1309 Cornwall avenue. It's a consignment shop (you may have guessed by the name). I don't know if you're against that sort of thing, but if not that have some great stuff.) Sojourn's is a wonderful place to wonder in and see a lot of fun styles. They mostly deal with size 12 and under, so its geared to a thinnish crowd. But they do have some gems in there that will fit people with curves. I rated the price as more Moderate/Average because I have wondered around the downtown area quite a bit. And for a downtown store, they are cheap to average. Admittedly you could find some of the same cloths cheaper elsewhere, say a large department store, but that is the function of a large department store. To make things cheap. Sojourn has taken time to find a wonderful collection that is interesting and fun to explore. If the general clothing is too expensive, its always fun to shop for hand bags and hats. They also have a good selection of ear rings and accessories to look though. read more

Not a keen fashion-minded person, I feel out of place in certain clothing stores. I prefer simple, but well-designed options with basic colors. I bet I sound exciting. Evidently, skirts beyond the pencil-type style are not in fashion right now. I looked at the malls and several places downtown, but could not find a dressy, flattering to curvy body-type black skirt for an awards ceremony. I stopped in to Sojourn on a whim before going back to my car and Amazon.com. I greeted by a friendly sales person who was able to find me three options within four minutes. Two of the skirts were too young and night-life for me, but the third was perfect. It fit, it flattered, and it was affordable. I appreciate the one-on-one service and her ideas to brighten the dark color with a scarf. It is important to explore our local businesses and to remember that any extra cost keeps Bellingham employed and clothing options unique. Great experience! read more

The cost is fine the location is great, the people are stuffy but knowledgeable and the clothes never fit me thanks to my full figured size 10-12 body. I have a 28 inch waist and a 41 inch hip span... I am not an average build and the clothes are fashionably small. On the plus SIZE they have hats and that is something that always fits me. All in all i like the place but do not like to shop there. read more

Unfortunately, i had a really terrible experience at sojourn. I went to sojourn looking for a prom dress. When i walked in, the owner eyed me up and down, and watched me carefully as i picked out dresses. As I was looking, she started a personal phone conversation, telling the person on the other line how she just 'love selling prom dresses' (sarcastically) and told my friend who was bringing me dresses to try on to 'stop bringing her dresses, let me be the sales rep'. As I was leaving I asked her politely who the owner of the store was, and she responded with 'I am. Why, do you want to make a complaint?' my friend and I were forced to leave after we asked that question, and being called 'little girls' . The clothes are absolutely adorable, but if you don't want to be a supporter of child labour, you should forget sojourn and go to four stars! I do not support any company who treat their customers so poorly. read more

I love this store. It will suck you in with its unique collection of womens clothing. The only problem is the price in some areas. If you find a brand of clothing that you may see at Nordstroms or Urban Outfitters, you can probably find it at those places for about half the price. That's my only beef with Sojourn. But I understand that a local joint has to pay the bills. So, stop in and check them out. They also have an amazingly cute collection of postcards. And the shoes they sell are absolutely fabulous - Indian slippers for the spring and summer and the most fabulous rainboots for winter. read more

I'm hooked on this place. Sojourn is great for accessories, especially hats. Quite a bit of elbow room for a smallish boutique too, which I need, I don't like shopping on top of other people. I was there earlier today and was reminded how fun their selection of dresses is. I tried on a sharp BCBG number, I haven't bought it yet, still mulling it over...price tags are sometimes a problem at Sojourn. At times they carry Raina Hlebichuk earrings, and her stuff can be hard to find. Oh yes, conveniently located near Mi Shoes, so you can finish your outfit, and Mallard's ice cream parlor, for the days you're engaging in retail therapy and other indulgences. Love it. read more

On a mission to find a cute and semi-formal dress for graduation, I went to Sojourn for the first time this past weekend. Going through the store, there wasn't much that caught my eye - I admit, I'm picky, and I knew what I was looking for. A dress on a mannequin caught my eye. I asked the older woman, who I assume is the store owner where to locate the dress in the store. She looked around a bit but then just ended up seeing if the mannequin was wearing my size. I'm an 8-10, or typically between Medium-Large. The mannequin had a large on, and she kindly proceeded to take it off so I could try it on. While taking it off, she started talking about how the mannequin was abnormal, (which I understand, most are fit for 0-2 or small sizes). But then she started going off about how it was a fat mannequin, and how it needed to go on a diet. She quickly said, 'not that your fat'... but then kept going off about how it needed to lose some weight. Great, now that you told me you consider me fat, I totally want to try on the $170 dollar dress you're trying to sell me. I tried the dress on, and she even tried giving me other dresses - but the woman sealed her fate when she started insulting me. ON TOP OF THIS - I was telling my co-worker this story and she said that a similar thing happened to her here! I will be telling my friends this story - who all happen to be in the market for grad dresses. please think about what you say to customers before it comes out of your mouth. read more

So upset with the treatment I received from Sojourn today. I believe in supporting local businesses and it breaks my heart that this woman is forcing me to write a negative review about a local fashion business in my home town.I purchased a dress for a party Saturday night.When I put it on the zipper ripped out of the dress. I called today to see if they would exchange it for the same dress, I know boutique policies so I was NOT trying to return!Peggy, the owner was very rude, accusatory, and suggested the dress was probably just too small. Again not the case.She agreed to exchange for the same item, finally and not so kindly.THEN Peggy called and left a message saying she was NOT going to do the exchange for me. After speaking with the associate there Satyrday night she was informed that the dress was in fact too small for me.I called back and asked to speak to Peggy, I was told no! Then Renee the employee who had "helped" me realized that she had confused me with another customer and that my dress was in fact not too small. Renee then began to question me about the zipper. She said since it was fine when I bought it why was it broken now. I said i felt like i was being accused of some sort of wrong doing and it was making me feel a little defensive. I couldnt explain the faulty zipper, but it had been a bit sticky when I tried it in the fitting room. She said she was just trying to get the "facts."I asked just to speak to Peggy and could hear Peggy in the background saying she didn't want to speak to me. Renee then lied and said that Peggy was with a customer but would let me exchange just this once for the same item. When I told Renee that I had heard Peggy in the background Renee got very aggressive and nasty. I said I didn't appreciate being lied to, accused of wrng doings, or treated with such poor service. She told me I had called already wanting to be upset so that I was the problem not them(um NO, I was done after the first phone call when I thought the issue had been resolved. Then your boss called me! I called back calmly and ready to again resolve the issue even though I was being treated rudely and being accused of God knows what.) Then Renee hung up on me. Moral of the story= should have gone to Four Starrs. I will not be exchanging the dress I'd rather lose the $ than continue to deal with the accusations and verbal harassment from this store. read more

I've been going to Sojourn for years, I don't usually buy a lot of clothing there. In general the things are just a little pricey or not really my style. I do buy a lot of scarves there though because they have a good selection and they are usually on sale, which is great. I've always found the owner sort of unpleasant, and on the rude side. Today I went in, I was the only person in the store, the owner was talking to an employee, the employee left, and the owner immediately got on the phone. I glanced at the clothes, then went through the rack of scarves on the wall, she told me to try them on and that they were on sale. I tried one, I got the impression she was following me around the store watching me. Then I went out side and took a quick look at their sale rack. There were several pairs of leggings and I un-clipped ONE SIDE of one of them from the hanger just to see the waist band better then reattached that one side to the hanger, put them back on the rack and started walking away. The owner came out of the store after I had replaced the item and was leaving to gripe at me and tell me not to take things off the hanger. Which I hadn't. I didn't realize she was talking to me at first, I said I didn't take anything off, she ignored me, because of course she was still on the phone and went back inside. I felt like I was being watched like a hawk the whole time I was in the store. And if she doesn't want people to look at the sale items outside then she have them all displayed out there. I just think she is very rude, and there are other places I can buy scarves. She just has such terrible customer service, I am going to make a point not to go back in the future. read more

My visit to Sojourns left me offended and was my worst ever shopping experience. I was offhandedly accused of theft by the manager. She was incredibly rude from the get go and watched me browse the store. In the dressing room she ripped the items out of my hand to count 4 and when I came out to buy one item she claimed I went in with 5. I told her I wouldn't give them my business if she was accusing me, got her name and then left. I called a few hours later to speak to the owner and the manager answered. She hung up on me. I called back to ask her to explain herself and she hung up on me again. I waited to post anything online until the owner got back two weeks later. When I talked to the owner today she was condescending and repeatedly cut me off while I tried to explain my experience. I told her I only wanted an apology from the manager. She told me the manager was her best friend and there was nothing that she would do. I will never shop at this store again nor will any of my friends or family who have lived in Bellingham since before this store existed. read more

I loved there cloths. There cloths were so cute. The owner is not. I understand that they are some shoplifters out there but not everyone is a suspect. They made my shopping experience terrible. The owner was being way too clingy. She kept getting in front of my dressing room and looking around inside to asking me are you going to get anything. Still trying on cloths lady!!!wouldn't even let my friend just be even a foot close to the door, I wanted to have my friend close by so I won't have to walk out every time to ask for her opinion. And when I said I wasn't going to get anything they didn't say a single word to me and were eye balling me the whole time I was walking out. Btw I never stole anything my entire life my mom raised me better then that and I did not appreciate the owner there one bit. The fact that the workers there made it look so obvious made me not appreciate it. You guys have a nice day good luck. Not to mention her gum smacking. So unprofessional. I am a person who loves fashion and shopping, but good shopping can be hard to find in a town like Bellingham. I enjoy going to Sojourn to shop or browse when I am downtown because they really do carry beautiful clothes. However, I had a terrible experience when I was there the other day with a few friends. While I was shopping, I felt extremely disrespected by the staff. Since I am a teenager, she probably assumed that I did not intend to purchase anything, when in fact I had cash in my pocket since my friends and I were dress shopping for an occasion we have coming up. She was condescending and rude while we were in the dressing room and constantly nagged at us to hang everything back up. She even accused us of removing a dress tag on a dress that none of us even tried on! Moments later, I tried on a dress that was a bit snug and the salesperson said, "don't try to zip it, it will ruin the clothes." This comment was completely uncalled for and made me feel self-conscious about myself around my friends. I firmly believe that clothes and fashion are avenues that can change the way we feel about ourselves for the better. A positive shopping experience can really celebrate this aspect of fashion and I was glad to find kind, supportive staff at other shops we visited that day. I will not be returning to Sojourn anytime soon because no one deserves to be treated that way. read more

I walked into this store today fully intending on buying at least one thing if they didn't have a good winter coat, which I was looking for. When I entered I was impressed with the set up as with such a small amount of space it can be difficult to properly display all items in a way that doesn't appear cluttered. There was a woman in there already being helped from the one worker I could see so I began to browse the stock on my own and waited to be helped. When the previous customer left I was sad to say I received nothing, let alone a greeting or a smile. I was walking around the store for a good five minutes and still was not helped, even when a second associate appeared from the back. Needless to say I'll never go back. I wouldn't be surprised if the associates assumed I was a vagrant wandering around to avoid the blustery weather we're having in beautiful Bellingham, but even then, there really is no excuse for the way I was treated in that store today. read more
