A…read morebooth--with the owner of the business--was set up at the local farmers' market (which, by the way, you have to go to while in Bellingham). I was instantly enthralled by the hand made vinyl bags in all different shapes and sizes. I promptly began pleading with my mother to buy me one of the aptly shaped messenger bags for school. No such luck. Coming back a year later, I discovered that Persnickety Designs had prospered while I was gone--a whole new location and a second grand opening! The owner/ designer had come out with two new lines, and the store had become a chic bag shop with bright colors and a sense of attractiveness overall. This year, my messenger bag was meant to be. Of course, I could have picked one of the pre-made ones, but Persnickety Designs is great for making sure you get what you want. Aside from the bag's actual body build, I "made" the entire thing! Getting a bag custom made is only $5 more than the original price and adding fabric pockets on the inside is $10 more. Admittedly, the bags are slightly pricey because you're paying for something hand made--but let me assure you they are well worth it. While I used a design already in production, it is perfectly possible to create your own design (that is simple), and I am looking forward to making another bag soon. Check out the website to see all the styles!

The First time I came in I needed a box to ship a snowboard, I assumed I would have to buy one, but they looked for me but couldn't find a specific snowboard box so brought me out some ski boxes tape and scissors! Mind you I had never been here or shopped here before I couldn't believe how gracious they were! Not to mention I had a friendly dog hanging around as I was building the box! So rad! The next time I had to sell some of my gear to pay a bill and the guy working in the gear section could feel my pain and gave me a really solid deal that he really didn't have to! This place is special In Bellingham and the people who work here have to be the best spirited team in any shop around town. So that being said if you want to have a good day looking for gear or selling or buying gear by a crew who truly cares your only place to do it is here. Thanks again. Mark

I LOVE this place!…read more Note that this chain of grocery stores used to be called "Cash and Carry". They must have changed their name fairly recently. I used to go to the Cash and Carry in Bellevue, WA before I moved to Vancouver, and I loved their can't-be-beat prices on many pantry staples. I recently needed a Cash and Carry fix, so I Googled the store in Bellingham (just an hour from Vancouver, max) and this store popped up. Yes, I drove an hour and crossed the border to get my fix (don't judge!). This site is somewhat hidden behind some office buildings but GPS found it okay. Like the other Cash and Carry stores, they have an abundance of boxes outside to take and use for your groceries, and unwieldy dollies for larger orders. For me, the biggest draw for this store is its AMAZING selection and low prices of coffee syrups! DaVinci and Toscani brands. OMG so many flavors and so many sugar free selections, and they all cost a fraction of what they go for elsewhere. A fraction. I'm not exaggerating. I stocked up on 10 bottles. These are the primary reason I love this store. The place isn't pretty. There are no fancy displays like at Whole Foods. But you don't pay Whole Foods prices. It's a warehouse. It's clean. It has most everything you need, grocery-wise, at the lowest prices around. If you need disposable plates or cutlery for parties or picnics (or if you're a room parent for your kid's classroom at school, like I was for a decade, in charge of class parties), this is the place to go. Hand's down.

So we headed to Launching Success and wow, did we have fun. I hadn't been to LS for several years - but was thrilled to find they still carry the same, high quality games, toys, books, supplies and other things to support homeschooling and home learning. Our first stop was at their fidget toy display, where my daughter picked out a couple of nice things to "play" with and help keep her focused during her days of Zoom classes. Next, we checked out some of their awesome art materials before heading to what I call the "teacher zone". This area of the store is FULL of all that cool stuff you see around your kid's classroom and you wonder where they got it. Well, they probably got it here! From posters to banners to you-name-it this room almost inspired me to return to college for my teaching certificate. (Hey, I said ALMOST.) While many of the items in this area are geared towards real classroom use (like signs about rules, or birthday lists) we found a couple of inspiring signs to put up around my teen's desk, as well as some organizational bins for pens and other supplies. Launching Success would also be an excellent place to buy high quality gifts for holidays or birthdays - they have a huge variety of games for all ages, and their prices are very competitive.
