A few years later it was discovered that this was incorrect and that Thomas Andrews did indeed live at 12 Windsor Ave but in 1912 the street numbers were different and 12 Windsor was now 20 Windsor just up the street. I am working on a small documentary for my You Tube channel and would really like to include an update on the Ash-Rowan Townhouse but there is no way to contact them online through email or their reservations (it says not available) choices. The Fitzwilliam is centrally located close to many attractions such as 1) Opera House - next door 2) Crown Bar - 2 blocks 3) Ulster Hall - 3 blocks 4) Grand Central - 2 blocks 5) Black Taxi Tours - short drive & many, many more. It certainly wasn't good value in terms of the price paid. Our room was basic. It had cheap and loose floorboards, the shower area was smaller than the space inside a BT red phone box (if folks remember them) the loo roll was cheap and useless and the shampoo and body wash equally grim - basic mattress and poor quality pillows. Bath towels aren't - think instead slightly larger hand towels. Room service consisted of a bloke knocking the door mid afternoon to ask if it was needed and given the price paid it sure was built in and simply should have been done. The lobby area, where the seating booths are, aren't comfortable to sit for any length of time and 2 star. The dining area is fine. There's pizza panini (most evening food offerings are factory produced, frozen and cooked from frozen as needed) and happy hour booze with what the hotel would say are deals, but at a 400% mark - up for low quality food we passed. Other reviews speak of the diligently helpful staff, but maybe that's a sign of how grim our world now is. I expect staff, whose wages customers pay, to be friendly and helpful - it sorta goes with the territory, no? Anyway between crooked politicians, businesses that only want to rifle our pockets, a collapsed health and public service, devoid of the ethos around to serve and immoral clerics small wonder we are in a complete mess that might never reverse. All the staff here were demonstrably customer-focused and if they needed to go the extra mile I found that they did. Although Adrian gets a name check all of the staff were stand out 5 star. The breakfast too is good with the chief downside of just ok coffees from a machine. The cook needs a few lessons in how to fry potato bread and there's no soda bread but again at the price point there should be. Given the cost and basic room against price paid it's overall three star but it's between 2 and 3 star rather than between 3 and 4.

Seriously though, I've stayed in a number of Ibis Hotels, and I'd rate this location as one of the best. Just off Queens Quarter, you couldn't ask for a better location: bars, shops, and convenience stores are all just around the corner. The hotel's neighborhood is very charming, and if you have the time I suggest taking a half day to explore its charm. As for the rooms, everything was very comfortable. The bed was great and the noise level was very quiet. The only thing that I wish they had in the room was a small mini-fridge. As for the staff, everyone was very kind and helpful. Amanda made sure that I found a laundry down the road and pointed out some of local sights. The maids were very good, and my room immaculate. So the next time I'm in Belfast, I plan to stay here.

Breakfast orders are taken the day before & you're greeted in the morning with a beautifully laid out table labeled with your room number. Delicious food!!
