I really love the gym and enjoy the boxing and aqua aerobatics classes. I injured my back a while ago and purchasing the recovery package really supports my fitness goals while staying safe. I love the energy of the atmosphere. All of the children running around. The athletes training. The mom's in my aqua class. It's just one community of movement. Well stocked food market and bar is great. The only suggestion is updating the red light therapy to standing panels and updating the cryotherapy machines and maybe adding another. My favorite recovery room is the contrast room. The cold plunge is amazing.

Finally made my way here. I was on auntie duty and my nephews wanted to try something new. These dudes are tool cool for me now- into all things sports, games and trampoline parks so I decided to bring them to The St James. The kiddies were overwhelmed with all the activities and offerings of this place. We didn't know where to start. If the volleyball tournaments weren't going on they could've honestly provided us a basketball, directed us to a gym and my nephews would've been in heaven for a few. The gentleman working the front desk was welcoming, greeted us with a smile and instructed us on the activities that we were able to participate in. Unfortunately the water park closed at 6p and we had an hour left for the indoor park area so we opted for that, but the indoor park area is a little too kiddie for my nephews who will be 11 this year. We also had my cousins 2 year old and he had a ball. We definitely have to come back at an earlier time during the day and I will definitely be looking into the kids summer camps and sports camps that they offer for my nephews. Unfortunately the cafe was closed when we were heading out to grab food, but these are my stomping grounds so luckily I know of plenty good eats to satisfy our grumbling tummies with in 10 minutes from this hidden location. Anyhoo! I'm sure we'll be back here for sure! Happy Yelping!

Coming from D.C. where land is limited, The Saint James is worth the drive for the sheer size of it. An expensive gym facility, the price may be worth it for their three level gym, two ice skating rinks, a water park, fields, courts, a kid area, and cafe. Friends who are members invited us to come using their guest passes one Saturday afternoon to use the indoor water park. My seven-year-old loved it. They also have a ninja course, ropes areas, and more for kids. There's parking, but sometimes it can be hard to find a space on weekends. It's a popular place!

St James has everything you need with the membership from free HITT classes, turf, 3 floors of gym, heated pool, etc Really excited for the cold plunge that should be opening in the next few months as well. The staff is always on top of things and they're always cleaning up Abbas making sure the gym looks great! Worth the membership Only downside is the weekends, there's always a tournament going on which attracts 100s of kids but I've never had an issue parking in the members only area and the actual gym isn't full either so I don't have any complaints there

AJ Hill Provided the Best Customer Service A few weeks ago I experienced an issue in the women's locker room. I waited a while before writing this post because I wanted to give management the opportunity to post the policy in the women's locker room, newsletter, and or signage. We both agreed on the following: It is necessary for members to understand the following: Outdoor shoes are not allowed in the sauna or steam room. A male child is not allowed in the women's locker room Female child is not allowed in a males locker room. Note: The gym has a family changing area Towels should not be left in the steam room or sauna after use. While changing my clothes a 7 year old boy with his mom stands next to me while I am naked. That is highly inappropriate and mom should know better. I made AJ (management) aware of my concern. Right away, he understood my frustrations. I appreciate his customer service and willingness to resolve the issue. Even though he did not create the problem, he was empathetic and his apology was sincere. Kudos to AJ Hill!

Enormous and very attractive multi sports complex, to include two separate competition level swimming pools. Super well staffed, to include valet parking during sports events. It's in a somewhat industrial area of Springfield, and parking is generally not an issue as people float in and out. They also have a really nice spa, and an athletic apparel store on site. And... are you ready for this? A full size soccer field inside the complex! Don't care about soccer and ice is your thing? Then head for the ice rink!

I went to The St James recently to watch a couple games during their MLK basketball tournament. The facilities are very well kept. There are two turf fields, two basketball courts, one ice hockey ring and multiple other facilities. They even have a dining area and a shoe store. This review is solely for the food. I got a Açaí bowl and chicken tenders with fries. The prices seemed a bit high to me but the portion sizes were good. The quality of the food was good as well. I was actually pretty surprised to be honest. Never I'd get a book by its cover.

Ask the Community - The St. James

    Is there a pool?

    Yes and small waterpark

Are there any trainings/camps for adult 18+ sports programs?

What times and at what days are the soccer field and basketball courts not available for members due to club/team use?

The Court House and Field House are usually fully booked for programming Monday-Friday 4pm-9pm. On weekends they are usually booked all day for events or tournaments.

How much does it cost to use the water park?

Waterpark is free for members and $15 for non-members.

Is the pool and water park connected? Also can non members go to use those two things? And how much is it for one day? No one answers when I call

Hey Christina! The Pool House and the Water Park have the same entrances (and share locker rooms). Non-members can use the water park but the Pool is reserved for members and swimming/water polo programs. You can view rates here:…

Do they have a jacuzzi, stream room and sauna?

Hi Joshua, You can find pricing for all our drop-in facilities, including the batting cages, here: https://www.thestjames.com/a-la-carte

How much is membership and are there contracts?

Is child care included with membership? If not, what is the hourly fee?

Yes, they offer one day passes. I believe it is $25.

I was in town for the…read moreholidays - I live in Atlanta - and I happened to come across this gym after getting a day pass to work out at LA Fitness (which... ugh we don't need to talk about that). I googled it and it seemed decent, so I purchased a little three-menbership to use after Christmas. Getting the membership online was super easy, and the gym was very easy to access through the app. And the app itself is probably the easiest and most user-friendly gym app I've ever used. Points Pure Fitness! Those little cylinders get a little tight when you're entering, but you're only in there for a few seconds lol. The gym itself is a little on the smaller side, but it uses the space REALLY well. I love that they've got roadmaps of where everything is in the gym posted both outside and inside the gym, so it's very easy to find what you might be looking for. There's plenty of cardio equipment, plenty of machines, and multiple free weight areas, as well as squat racks, powerlifting platforms, Smith Machines, and a couple of bench press stations that can also double as squat racks. There's a nice little turf with sleds, battle ropes, and stationary tires. They also have a nice stretching/abs area, that also has multiple standing punching bags, which was really cool - I didn't use them on these first two visits, but I definitely will whenever I come back! The strength and cardio machines are Matrix machines, which I'm not the biggest fan of personally, but they absolutely still get the job done. And that's purely a personal preference as an experienced lifter and trainer, but it wouldn't/shouldn't inhibit anyone's experience at all. If I had to name any cons, it would probably be these two relatively minor things: -The layout takes a little bit of getting used. There doesn't really seem to be a pattern to how the machines are set up, legs and upper body machines mixed and in random places, but once you get used to it, it's fine. And the cleaning stations and trash/recycle receptacles are sometimes oddly placed, to where you may be right next to trash can, but have to walk a little ways to find a cleaning station, or vice versa. But we're all there to get a little extra cardio, too, right? Lol. (I also do appreciate that they have recycling stations, too.) -The locker rooms are mostly pretty clean, and there are plenty of showers, that mostly seem to be fairly clean, as well, and they're nice and spacious. I always shower and change after my workout, so that's appreciated. But the bathroom area was pretty filthy on both of my days there. I know that's kind of par for the course for 24-hour facilities, but on back to back days during the week, I feel like I saw the same filth spots in the bathroom area. Though on my second day, the cleaning guy was in the locker room cleaning in the afternoon, so that was great to see. And the rest of the gym seemed very clean, which I absolutely loved. Neither of these are enough to dock any stars, though. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Pure Fitness Springfield. I didn't really interact with any of the staff there, but other reviews seem to have very glowing things to say about them, so I'll take their word for it. And the trainer I saw on Friday seemed to be very engaged with his clients, which was cool. Northern VA is home for me, so whenever I come back, this will absolutely be my gym of choice. And if I ever move back long-term, I will definitely sign up for a full long-term membership and make this my home gym. Thanks for a great experience, and I'll be recommending you to all of my friends and family in the area! :)

The environment is…read moreno-nonsense and clearly built around serious training-- which as an Army veteran is something I personally respect and felt at home in, especially given the military-style banter. That said, I didn't find the tone ideal for younger kids. There was language and phrasing ("kick his ass!") that I didn't feel was appropriate for children, and I was disappointed by comments made toward boys being beaten by girls ("You'll walk home if you lose to a girl")--not exactly the message I want either of my kids internalizing. The instructors are absolutely skilled and committed, but they treat the kids like mini adults, which may work for some families, but not ours. We ended up going with another gym that's more youth-focused, closer to home, and offers more affordable memberships with military and family discounts. I think Six Blades would be great for adult students or older teens looking for high-level instruction, but it just wasn't the right fit for our young kids. Edited for further context: For further context, what the owner describes as "jovial" banter included quotes from coaches during the kids' training session: * "Kick his ass!" * "Whoop his ass!" * "You better not lose to a girl!" * "If you lose to a girl, you're walking home!" * "Pay attention, dammit!" "Banter" implies the kids could respond with witty comebacks--but what would they realistically say to grown men in a position of authority? They simply complied. That said, I truly appreciate the owner's openness to constructive feedback. It makes me feel more confident in my decision as a parent. For now, we'll stick with the more "budget" and kid-friendly option -- at least until my children are old enough to clap back at demeaning and misogynistic comments with confidence and humor that comes with maturity.
