Bonehead Burger - Bonehead Style Fries

Simply put, the food here is amazing. On the Bonehead Burger, their primary offering, the meat is smashed perfectly, giving it a delicious crust that is crispy on the edges and still juicy throughout. The sauce on it is well balanced, a great mix of sweet, salty, and lightly spiced flavors that they add just enough of to expertly avoid making things too messy or drowning out all other flavors and textures. All of the fixings added give it a nice, overall crunch where you can still taste the tang of the pickles or the slightly sweet and acidic tomatoes. And it's all topped off by that Maple Bacon and those Crispy Onions. And if that sounds good, but you don't want a full burger, you can get all of those toppings on a tub of well-cooked seasoned French fries instead. I have eaten here a half a dozen times at both their brick and mortar sites in Old Town, as well as this truck, and the food has always been at that same perfect level. I have never been disappointed in any meal I've had here and I find myself going to my daughter's school functions excited at the slightest possibility that the Bonehead Food Truck might be there catering. If you're a lover of good burgers, you need to have Bonehead on your list of ones to try. If you're in San Diego, stop by their physical site. And if you're lucky enough to see this truck pop up somewhere, ignore all other trucks and see what Bonehead has to offer.

This place definitely deserves more attention. Burgers were insanely good and the bonehead tater…read moretots were off the hook! Service was 100/10 and the vibe/music was awesome.

Devilicious - Lobster grilled cheese

Devilicious is a San Diego-based food truck and a long-time participant in the twice-yearly Great American Foodie Fest in Las Vegas. I must've tried them last time because I found a picture of the duck confit grilled cheese. Whether I was slacking on reviews/photo uploads that weekend or I intentionally avoided doing the review, that sandwich clearly wasn't memorable. But I tried them again because of the relative lack of out-of-town newcomers, and I wasn't disappointed this time. My choice was the Cali Pork Belly Burrito ($11, at least for this event), their version of the San Diego local favorite California burrito. It's a burrito with french fries inside, and the first one I ever tried was fantastic. This rendition is an even larger departure from its Mexican inspirations, with the salsa verde and perhaps the crema being the only Mexican flavors discernible. However, it was still a filling treat because of the delicious, not-too-chewy pork belly that's cut into large chunks. The potato were pretty good too. My only issue was that one half of my burrito had zero meat when I got to the bottom; fortunately, I still had the other half still to eat. The Cali burrito seems to be a newer menu item, and I hope it stays on. And I hope that Devilicious keeps coming back so that I can work my way through the rest of their menu, including their popular lobster grilled cheese.

I was hungry and thought this might be a good option to anything I would cook this evening. Quick check of their Yelp page and based on all the good reviews I figured how could I go wrong. Everything on the menu sounds amazing but the vast majority of the reviews I read all mentioned the BBBLT (Bacon, Bacon, Bacon and more Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato) sandwich. In addition to being a traditional BLT with an abundance of Bacon, it's served on fresh sourdough bread with melted cheddar & jack cheeses and a fried egg. I figured I would play it safe and order this sandwich everyone was raving about and I had a side of their regular fries. They take credit cards so it was very convenient to pay. They made the sandwich fresh along with the fries and it wasn't a very long wait. I went back to my house to enjoy the meal. The sandwich came with a small salad with a balsamic dressing. The sandwich looks amazing with several thicker than average slices of bacon hanging out of either end of the sandwich. I parted it and the cheese was still melted and stringy. There was just a trace of the egg yolk dripping down. The sandwich literally looked too good to eat!!! I've seen pictures of food like this but rarely ever get a chance to actually taste something that looks this amazing. Well, looks were not deceiving! The bacon was amazing along with the fresh sourdough bread, perfectly cooked fried egg and incredible cheeses! Absolutely one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. They have a website and fortunately, on the website they list all the locations their food truck will be throughout the week. I STRONGLY recommend you check out this list and if they are going to be in your neighborhood, you must try their food! I can't wait until they return to my neighborhood because I plan to try some of the other incredibly delicious sounding sandwiches on their menu! So, why not five stars if I'm raving so much about the food? Styrofoam to-go containers. Sorry 'Devilicious' but you cannot recycle Styrofoam here in San Diego County. There is one facility down near the border but I'm not driving all the way down there and the city will not pick up Styrofoam for recycling. Furthermore, there are SO many companies, here in San Diego, that make recyclable to-go containers. And I've personally priced it and compared to the Styrofoam containers, it might cost you an extra 8 cents per item which is a cost you could certainly pass along in the prices for your food. I would gladly pay a few cents more for you to use recyclable containers. Since they are San Diego companies, I'm sure you could get a better price than what I got off the internet. Anyway, just a thought but please get rid of the non-recyclable Styrofoam containers.
