Burger and fries are excellent quality and well put together. It's a little pricey but it's definitely worth it.

Bixby Chocolate was an expected find when we were in Rockland for a cruise stop. Located off the…read morebeaten path, Bixby isn't a place you're going to stumble upon, but when you do you'll love it. The entry is located toward the back of a large brick building. You may think you're going too far, but keep going. There is a sign above the doorway and a sandwich board to help get you there. As you get near the place the smell of chocolate fills the air. Once inside the door it's like you're surrounded by a big chocolate hug. Inside the door there are a number of shelves on your right with pre-packaged Bixby products, ready for purchase. Chocolates and bonbons and toffees of various flavors and varieties, as well as peanut brittles in a surprising number of flavors. Further into the establishment you're presented with displays of various items for sale. It's not just a retail store, but it's also the Bixby Chocolate factory, where their confectionary delights come to life. The day of our visit there was no activity other than retails sales. After a couple samples I came home with a large bag of chili beer peanut brittle. I know it sounds complicated, but it is AWESOME. The staff at Bixby knows their product. Got a question? Any staff member can assist with any of your questions. Need to purchase something and have it shipped? No problem at all! They ship anywhere! Bixby is a destination, to be sure, but it's well worth the effort to find it.

The light and airy shop showcases the variety of their products, particularly their signature bonbons and Needhams (potato chocolates!). The chocolate is very high quality with a lot of flavor choices. Make sure to try some local flavor profiles like blueberry and maple. They also have ice cream in the shop! We'd just eaten so we had to miss that, but stocked up on chocolates, including a bag of Needhams, Allagash beer brittle, a dark chocolate sea salt bar, and four bon bons. Bixby does a beautiful job crafting the chocolates. The bonbons were truly pieces of art, and the chocolate bar had such a lovely and intricate sea life pattern on it that I almost didn't want to eat them. Our one wish was that they had more samples available, particularly for the unfamiliar flavors like the beer brittle and the Needhams, so folks know what they're getting before investing in a large bag of something. The factory and shop is right on Crockett Point in Rockland Harbor and is a gorgeous way to spend some time in Maine.

We arrived early and found a spot in the very small lot they have next to the building. There were plenty of street spots open within walking distance as well. The whole area fills up starting in late morning, so I would plan your trip and know all of your parking options in advance so that you aren't driving 5 miles an hour down the road looking for parking. LOL There is usually a wait, so just be prepared for it. I was able to put our name on the list and we walked around the area. Our server was great - wow was she energetic. Zipping around, smiling and engaging with all of the customers. Our food was delicious!! The sticky bun...we managed to snag one of the last few left. Again, get there early if you don't want to miss out. The corned beef hash - amazing Biscuits - YUM Gravy - savory goodness. Home fries - flavorful and not too greasy. Eggs - perfect! I highly recommend this place and I hope to be able to return again soon, during the non-tourist season.

This cozy breakfast and lunch spot is popular with locals and visitors, so you'll likely have to wait for a table. It is definitely worth the wait, but If you're in a hurry, check to see if a seat is available at the counter. Service at Home Kitchen is warm and welcoming, and you're in for a treat if you're lucky enough to sit in Zan's area (short for Suzanne). I couldn't decide between a tuna sandwich or a grilled cheese, and she suggested combining both into a tuna melt. Brilliant! Along with a shared order of large fries, it was a tasty and filling lunch. The best part? All of it was gluten free! Home Kitchen bakes their own GF bread and pastries, and they are far superior to grocery-store GF baked goods. Even though we were sated from lunch, Zan encouraged us to order dessert, since they had a GF chocolate cupcake with salted caramel frosting. On her recommendation, we got two cupcakes to go - a GF chocolate cupcake for me, and a pumpkin cupcake with maple cream cheese frosting for my friend -- which we enjoyed later in the day from the comforts of home. Wow. Super delicious. More please!

This year made us realize that this is our last year. It was our 25th and we were looking forward to it. It started with the hostess who was annoyed that we showed up 7 minutes early for our reservation and told us they were running on time and to take a walk in the garden and come back at the exact time of our reservation. Which we did. We were seated by the manager who seemed impatient. He handed us the menus and walked off. A detail I didn't consider until I noticed that the other manger handed the menus and went over some drink specials and menu specials. Our server was nice in the beginning although seemingly distracted. We found out a little later they had a wedding party upstairs and the kitchen was behind. We didn't mind because we were there for the experience as much as the food. However as the night rolled on and things took longer and longer, the staff seemed more and more annoyed with us for ordering our meal. By the end of the meal, our server asked if we wanted a cheese or dessert service and seemed very annoyed when we said yes. At this point we were 2 1/2 hours in and they wanted us out. However, we were still there because it had taken so long for our service and food. In the end we split a strawberry shortcake, which was very good, I had a coffee, and we got out of there. They wanted us out and we didn't want to stay any more. What is sad is we have been celebrating our anniversary for 20 years there as often as we can and this, our 25th was the worse experience we have ever had and we won't return. It broke our hearts.
