I don't think its been here very long but me and my friends discovered this the other week - we were cruising around in my friend's car looking for somewhere we could grab some food. You see, after a few bad run ins with waiting forever for home delivery, we prefer to take matters into our own hands. Saffron Express is pretty good value for money - for under a tenner, you get three different curries plus loads of pilau rice etc. With cheap prices comes mediocre tastes but we were all plesantly surprised. We'll definitely be trying here again for the next film night - good food to share/ mix and match.

There must be no more than 15 tables in the entire place, which makes it nice and cosy - which I like. I have been here countless times, and each time I cannot fault the service. The waiters are friendly, and the same guys have worked there for years, so if you're local and go there frequently they remember your name - which is always nice. The food is authentic Indian food, with a varied choice of curries on the menu. One of their starters - Prawn on Puree - is my favourite and I often order this as larger portion for my main meal, which they are always more than happy to do for me. The prices are very reasonable here, and if you like them on Facebook they'll often post print-off vouchers on their page for customer discounts and freebies. They also run deals on certain nights, where you can get 3 courses and a beer for £15. Last week when I visited, the service was abnormally slow.. And something I haven't experienced before. Granted it was a busy Friday night but maybe they were a waiter down or something. The service is usually faultless - this must have been an off night but I wouldn't like to mark them down for it. I'll continue to go here, either with family or with friends - and if you're in the area it's definitely the best place for Indian food for a good few miles.

My friend chose a Chicken Bhuna and we shared rice and a peshwari naan. For drinks I was a renegade and ordered not a glass but a jug of Mango Lassi as I wanted to try something different. It was simply fantastic. How had I not discovered this refreshing and tasty beverage sooner? Our meals arrived after about 20 minutes, the peshwari glistening away and the curries smelling very appetising. Now the Nihari was good...there just wasn't a lot of it (only two chunks of lamb and a loose bone covered in sauce). It was very tender and the sauce was good for naan-dippage, but it just wasn't as enjoyable as my play-it-safe Saags. Service was great - attentive without being overly fussy. The final bill came to just over £40 between us which didn't seem unreasonable. A slick operation, decent food on the whole and friendly staff.
