My son has been receiving Speech/Language services at Speech Garden with Christine Genna for the past year. He is almost three years old with a diagnosis of ASD and severe language delays. In my decade long career as an early childhood special education teacher I have worked with many speech-language therapists. When it came to selecting a speech language therapist for my son, I chose Christine at The Speech Garden. She is very professional, and provides high, quality instruction. Christine has been our lifesaver, and has helped us tremendously by advocating for our son to get as many services as possible. My son who is non-verbal, has greatly increased his receptive and expressive language skills since working with Christine. He is able to sign and guide us through hand over to indicate his wants and needs. Christine has worked very closely with my family to help us apply methods and strategies learned in therapy into our home environment. She is a very hands-on, goal oriented instructor. She infuses my son's IFSP goals into every session such as: increasing social engagement, joint attention, expression (core vocabulary) and understanding, verbal and non verbal imitation, and functional and pretend play skills. She uses a relationship based, developmental model which embeds language facilitation strategies, incorporates parent coaching (i.e. social play routines, etc.), and implements multi-modal supports (visual supports such as gestures/signs and pictures, positioning, as well as, auditory supports such as appropriate pace, repetition and wait time, etc.) I cannot begin to express the deep appreciation we have for Christine, and all her hard work, and dedication in helping our son blossom into the adventurous, and expressive toddler that he has become!
