My son has made friends that return in the summer, just like he does, and he looks forward to seeing them. There is a lot to do and ms. Surita, ms. Wendy, ms. Lulu communicate well with parents. They offer full time hours (5 days a week, 10 hrs/ day) for 8 weeks, this is hard to get with the free, public school Summer camp program. Overall, we recommend their summer camp.

On the other hand, they have treated my son with a more gentle touch, working with him on communication - his greatest obstacle. His language skills have greatly improved since starting at JHELC & I know that's it's not because he's not being heard there - it's because he is. This review may seem a bit biased, but it's only because I have been so happy with my experiences at JHELC. My kids love the staff and I know that the staff genuinely and passionately care for them too. We are welcomed with open arms every day and my children are treated as individuals with unique needs and keys to learning. The staff is open to input and feedback, which is very important. They kept less experienced teachers . Ultimately , with less experienced teachers, the quality of the education will suffer. The teacher that they couldn't find a place for had glowing reports from both parents and the administration. This is no way to treat well regarded staff. It affects the moral of those who have to wonder if they are next. This is not the first time a staff member has been treated this way . The staff member who was treated this way will be running a school in another location. Garden house school's loss is this other school's gain. Many of you will know who I'm talking about. She will miss all of you, and unfortunately if you were hoping to have your younger children be placed with her , you will have to accept a less experienced teacher. There are some very good teachers still left, but every year there is a turnover and the experienced teachers are replaced by inexperienced teachers. I am the mother of this teacher. She is heartbroken to be leaving like this. She has continued being in touch with former students and their families. This is no way to run a school. The students that went onto other schools after being with this teacher were very well prepared for the schools they were entering.

She is very engaged and makes sure that learning Chinese is fun for them. She would play supermarket and would 'sell' fruits (Strawberries and grapes). She haded out paper money with Chinese numbers on them and children would have to use money to 'buy' fruit they like. In the process, they are encouraged to speak and count the names of fruits in Chinese and read the Chinese letter on the money. And they get to eat real fresh fruit that they 'buy'. So brilliant.

I am giving one star because back years ago, one tutor worked hard with my kid with special needs. After that their GT tutoring of my otherwise highly advanced student failed. I ended up preparing him myself. And he is in a gifted program but only because of me. The teacher misinformed me that my child had covered all Material - turned out at home, he didn't. Not sure why the teacher decided to spin reality - I think he didn't care. Next, when we tried their afterschool program- another disappointment. Their staff didn't know how to work with kids. They insisted that I take him out because he wasn't able to do homework on his own. Irene called me every day, harassing me at work and creating urgency where it didn't exist. Again- failure to work with kids in this business is failure at everything. I thought people should know that this space cherry-picks the kids they want that are "iklass compliant" and that they push other kids out through harassing calls. Good things have changed over the years and they have learnt to be inclusive of all learners. No kid learns the same way. And they should absolutely know that in this business.
