I'm a bit reluctant to write this review because this nursery is a bit of a hidden gem, and my…read moresecond child will need a daycare soon. My wife and I toured this place, and others, when we were checking out daycares. One of the biggest reasons why my wife and I chose this place is because the children seem like they have fun. When we visited, the kids were socializing and playing with each other. In other daycares, the children seem subdued and withdrawn and not as playful. In fact, some of the children recognize me now and walk up to me to say hi or share their toy when I go pick up my daughter. I think their friendliness is partly due to how they're treated here. My child loves this place. I enrolled my daughter when she was about 2.5 years old. There was of course and adjustment period, but shortly after two weeks, my daughter became used to the idea of coming here and even looking forward to it. I have no doubt the extra TLC that the staff gave her the first few weeks contributed to her feeling welcome. I think dropping my daughter off became harder for me than it was for her (conceal, dont feel). She's been enrolled here over a year now. She comes home with art projects that they do in class, I catch her singing songs that I know she learned while in school here. She tells me about her friends and the types of games they play. She recently told me that she needs to start bringing a toy for show and tell on Fridays. The staff here is very warm and considerate. Unlike other daycares where the teachers are college students or young adults, you can tell that the teachers here have children of their own. They will treat your child as if he or she was one of their own as well.

It's just few months she started going to the school but she has already learned so much! I believe the most important thing to 2-3 yrs old babies to grow up nicely is huge love and nice teachers, not just learning ABC or numbers. They offer everything my kid needs now. They are trusted!

Our oldest is finishing their pre-K program and can already count into the hundreds and is beginning to read so they must be doing something right ha. Since we used their infant/toddler program we got priority placement in their DOE 3K and pre-K programs they offer, which was nice so that kids didn't have to go to a different school and could keep the same friends. There is also summer school and early drop off/late pickup which was important for us as full-time working parents. A few downsides are that the building is a bit small, the owner seems difficult on teachers, and they follow the DOE schedule even for the infant/toddler, so there are more days when they are closed vs other daycares for the younger ones.

I had an issue with being told that I needed to pay $2050 for a total of 18 days of care. I also had an issue about private pay rates being higher than publicly funded rates and the owner disagreed. I've spoken with a co-owner who explained the difference in the rates which conflicted with the NYS Essential Worker Scholarship "discount" the owner kept mentioning. Her response was to call me entitled and angry over and over again. Entitled for expecting transparency and consistency with the costs associated with care. Consistency about what her partner and staff explained with regards to the discrepancy in charges to NYC and private paying parents. Angry about not qualifying for vouchers or free programs etc. Angry about not getting discounts lol. I work hard and make enough money to where I don't need to qualify for programs and I'm not ashamed about that. FYI Annette, a black woman can have a disagreement without being angry. You charge NYC a lower rate for childcare than you do your private paying parents and I just wanted to know why and transparency. You lack tact and professionalism and in my experience you're prejudiced and maybe even racist. I have 3 children and have never ever had an issue with their providers, ever. Nor has anyone in my life referred to me as angry. I kept advising you of the racial undertone and you insisted, calling me angry over and over again via email. I have screenshots. Disgusting, nasty and unprofessional OWNER. Do not waste your time. P.S. Annette is so unprofessional, wait and see her nasty and rude response lol

Trusting someone else with your child is not easy, but we chose High Five based upon…read morerecommendations from our fellow Sunnysiders and have been happy with them thus far. During the first few weeks, the staff provided helpful feedback and guidance on how to help our child adjust. The teachers also use an app to provide updates on your child's day which includes logs of food intake, potty and pictures/videos of their daily activities. The number of photos can vary depending on how busy they are but usually there's at least one per day. Activities include painting, puzzles, circle time with singing, amongst others. I have been impressed with how creative the activities are. The class size seems to be between 8-12 on a given day, with about 3 classes and about two teachers per class. Morning and afternoon snack are included in tuition, and parents provide lunch. There is an infant rate and toddler rate (after two years old), with the toddler rate being less expensive. The administrative team is very responsive, especially Jack, who has even responded to us even after business hours. Tuition payments are on a monthly basis via the app. I do wish there was some sort of orientation process for newcomers (caveat: we joined mid year during the pandemic so not a typical year). Also, wish that the class schedule was shared on the app so I know what the children were up to each week. But compared to these more minor things - my child seems happy, healthy and is developing new skills which is most important. If you are considering High Five, am happy to answer any questions about my personal experience, so feel free to message me.

When we were first looking at daycares, The Learning Station was the only spot to respond to us…read more.. so we didn't have much choice but it was a blessing. The classroom is located on the 1st floor of a small residential building and might not be as fancy or obvious as the other large daycares, but they are clean, attentive, consider safety, and have everything toddlers need to grow and learn. They try hard to keep costs reasonable. My son (18mos) has been attending TLS since he was 6 months old and from the very start, he has loved it there! Every week he learns something new, and you can tell that Miss Cira and her staff put a lot of energy and thought into every kid's individual development. I love that the place is small, so we know each child gets lots of attention & the staff have a good understanding of each personality. They are also flexible with drop-off/pick-up times as long as it's between 8a-6p - which is perfect coverage for two parents with full-time jobs. They helped my baby build muscles to crawl, stand, walk, and now he's coming home reciting ABCs, counting, and building his vocabulary (mostly verbal English but some Spanish & basic ASL too)! Best of all, they've taught him to tidy up after himself so even at home just puts toys back when he's done with them... when he sees toys, pacifiers, or books on the floor (even the dog's toys lol) he says, 'uh oh!' and picks it up to put away or give to a grown-up (or dog)! He even wipes the table after himself and can wipe his nose/face (very convenient), and loves washing his hands. It doesn't get much better than that. At drop-off he sits at the door waiting for it to open & then runs inside without a backwards glance. At pick-up, he sometimes cries and runs back into the classroom because he's having too much fun to leave! While they're not the most consistent with communication/photos, Miss Cira will happily chat at pick-up or drop-off and texts for any questions or updates. I personally do not need constant photo updates since I'd rather the staff concentrated on the kids' activities and safety (vs. being distracted trying to get daily pics of every child) so just occasional photos works for us. I assume if some parents want more frequent updates, they'll provide that. We trust TLS and are very happy that our little one is excited for school every day.

From the very first day we were greeted with warmth and love, as if it was our second family. During drop-offs my oldest son always walked in confidently and happy. My husband and I also walked away with confidence and peace of mind that our son was being taken care of by highly responsible, loving and professional people and in a safe and secure place. We also knew that he would have an amazing learning experience and great so is interactions with other children. Now, our youngest (infant) son attends and we can honestly say we still hold those strong feelings. Our youngest son cannot wait to go everyday! Its a great sign when he gives me his jacket to put on every morning! I cannot say enough about the program itself, they are always up to something so creative through arts and crafts projects, sensory play and even seasonal food making. I have and will continue to recommend families to send their children here!

TPD will forever be our favorite memory of Forest Hills and New York! Our two children were there…read morefrom mid-2020 to mid-2022 and we left only because we moved out of the state. We first found this gem because COVID restrictions shut down our previous daycare and forced us to find a new care option, but in hindsight, it was such a blessing in disguise and a transformative experience! The owner and teachers were so loving and caring - they prepared freshly-cooked meals from scratch everyday, ensured our young children propelyr rest after lunch and avoid being over-stimulated and going home cranky and difficult for the parents. Though not a Montessori school, they used many similar techniques and spirits. For example, they emphasized learning through five senses, taught practical life skills (like dressing oneself) and emotional regulation along with academic knowledge, involved children in hands-on real-life projects such as making their own snacks (with ingredients prepared and process guided by the teachers like squeezing orange juice), encouraged older children to help younger children, encouraged self-expression through weekly talent shows, and fostered a community among the families by facilitating weekend playdates. The experience was entirely different from the traditional programming in a chain daycare center. As a result, one of our children transformed from a timid child to an outgoing one, and we were embraced into a strong community with long-lasting connections.

We will always be Toadies at heart, and can't wait for our daughter to become a Tadpole too!
