My son started at Two by Two when he was 23 months (he's in Pre-K now) and everyday I'm glad for our choice in care. When we were exploring local options, we knew our decision would be based on where we felt he would be 1) safe, 2) healthy and 3) loved. Everywhere we toured, we felt like he'd be safe and healthy. What set Two By Two apart was that we felt like he'd would be cared for by professionals who created genuine, authentic connections - as aunties, as kin. He was so little and our care priorities were more about him feeling seen, heard and addressed. Now that he's approaching Kindergarten, he's getting the same care while also getting support with socialization, learning emotional regulation, and the basics of academics (letter and number recognition, phonics). He has a group of close friends, uses feeling statements and is reading sight words and writing his name. All huge wins without robotic structure or impersonal instruction- which while inevitable in our school systems can wait until the elementary years. Two By Two continues to make progress in communication, family engagement and facilities. We've seen growth here and have been grateful for their request for feedback and impressed to see it implemented. An incredible director, Ms. Edie Gonzalez leads a wonderful, caring, and well-trained team. Every classroom multiple educators present. Our child is excited every day to go to school, and shouts with enthusiasm to join the teachers and class in the morning. The director and staff are always on top of the details - from paperwork, to schedules and routines, to introducing new concepts and activities. Great communication and the best interpersonal relationships. The focus is always on the kids - there's a lot of affection, tenderness, and care that makes Two by Two a special and unique place. It has been the perfect place for us - we started when our baby was just nine months old, entrusting experienced and caring teachers in the infant room, and the transition was so thoughtful. The transition to the toddler room was just as thoughtful, and the staff prepared us and the baby acclimating over the course of a week. I notice that my child at home has started to help 'clean up' and is very well adjusted socially, something we attribute to the time at two by two. I have 2 children at Two By Two and recently during nap time my daughter woke up and was bleeding as a blood vessel had burst in her face. I was extremely impressed with the way the two by two staff handled the situation. We were notified straight away and they called an ambulance in. When I got there my daughter was being looked after by staff and the paramedics and it turned out we had to go into hospital to get her treated. The paramedics on the journey to the hospital told me that two by two was the most prepared school they had ever been to. The had a parking spot ready they had staff waiting to usher them in etc! I did a tour of this facility. First of all, all these pics on yelp are total bogus, space is small, not bright, dirty and just disgusting! Two tiny rooms, same for playing, sleeping, eating, basically your child is confined to single little room whole day. Who writes these beautiful reviews? All kids were strapped to chairs!!! Why?! My girls have been going to Two by Two since my oldest (2.5 y/o) was 9 months old. I cannot express enough how much we love this center. Starting with the infant room the teachers are beyond amazing. They make having to go back to work and leave your baby with someone so much easier. Just walking into the classrooms you can tell that every single one of the teachers at Two by Two love the children they care for and the children love them just as much. My girls have learned so much since being at Two by Two. I cannot recommend it enough! read more

Finding good childcare in the city is tough! I have a 16 month old son who has been at daycare since 4 months. I have visited more than 10 facilities in NYC, Brooklyn and New Jersey. My son has now been to 3 separate daycares (more change than I would like) but I have a good reference point now for what is good and what is not. He started at The Learning Experience in Battery Park (an amazing place but my work location changed so it wasn't possible to keep him there). One of the best things here was that they taught sign language in the infant room and my son Liam still signs things today (like "more" and "all done"). We moved him to the Bright Horizons in Williamsburg and the Infant program was great but we ran into problems when he moved to the Toddler room. Distraught with a number of things I settled on Two by Two. I was originally a little reluctant as I didn't get a sense that things were very structured (they have policies and procedures but it seemed very laid back). I have been so happily surprised by everything. They are clearly focused on "doing" things the right way vs. "talking" about what they will do. A little list about what is so great about 2 by 2 after 2 short months: 1. The teachers!!! Previously teachers were hit and miss and there was so much turnover. These teachers have all been there a long time. They exude love and enthusiasm. They are on the floor in the middle of everything interacting with the kids (vs. observing from the side). They are happy and laugh a lot and sing songs and read books all day long. So basically there is a curriculum but these teachers interact with your kid just like you would throughout the day vs. checking off a list of to-do's. This is what I was looking for when I switched and I could not be happier. 2. Variety. They seem to fit in so much during the day. There is a huge playroom in the basement with slides and ride-on toys, there are always art projects happening, books, toys etc. They integrate holidays or themes and again it isn't like they have a check list of things to do but are constantly switching things up during the day. 3. Family run business. These people care. They want feedback and want to make things better any way they can. The parent community is active and it can only make for a better center going forward. 4. Sunlight. If you have looked at daycares in Brooklyn and NYC you will know that most are in basements or places where you don't get natural light. EVERY room here has a window. When I first toured the school I was a little put off at the structure in that these are basically units in a condo so there are walkways through elevator halls etc. but the difference it makes to see sunlight flooding each room more than makes up for it. There are even outdoor play areas within the building and I think I heard that they are outfitting the roof into a play area. Very unique. 5. They heat up food. This may be a personal thing but at a previous daycare they refused to warm up food once kids hit the toddler room. My son has both lunch and dinner at daycare so the idea that he couldn't have a hot meal seemed crazy. They are great here with food and letting you know what they like and don't like. 6. You pay for the hours that you plan to attend (vs. 1/2 day or full day) and you can pay by credit card. We had a rough 2 week transition when I moved Liam as he adjusted to his new space but the staff couldn't have been more supportive. Especially as I left the building with a kid screaming on the floor. They made it obvious that they had been through all of this many times and sure enough every day he got happier and now he blows kisses and hugs his teachers before he leaves. I have both of my twins in 2X2 Academy, in 2 different classrooms.... one in Oranges & the other in Generations..... 5 Star Review all around! The classrooms are clean, organized, and well lit. The price is competitive for Brooklyn. Not cheap/Not too expensive. The Oranges classroom is a bigger class that is basically "PRE Pre-K" and great for socialization and learning. Generations classroom has a much smaller class size, that has a very close child to teacher ratio. Also great for socialization and learning with a more hands on approach. Both classrooms/teachers are great. read more

Two by Two is just fabulous! We used to send our son to Northside, which was fine, but not good enough for the money in our opinion so we looked for anoher option. I loved two by two from the moment I went in. All the staff are very presentable, professional and most importantly warm, firm and caring with the children. What I always notice every time I go is how engaged all the children are; absorbed in either play, or a story or music etc. There is aso tons of space, which for our energetic 2 year old was a huge plus, as so many places are just so small. They have a huge playroom downstairs, a roof garden and there is so much light, which for little ones is very important. There are big balconies on each classroom where they can always go for fresh air and this school really does take the children out every day when the weather is clement which I love. So yes, I cannot really say enough good things about two by two. We love it and most imporantly our son loves it. Every day he comes home telling me about how his friends are, his teachers are, and how his day was. We feel the care is so warm and its really a home from home, but an educational, diverse home where he can thrive. read more

When it comes to rely your kids care to somebody else you would think that nobody could care of them like you do. That's how I felt until I enrolled Luka into Two By Two when he was 2.5 months old. He felt in love immediately with his teachers Ms Tiffany and Ms. Porcha. That was the only way I was able to come back to work. Then, Luka grew and we, first time parents, started to understand that there is more than just falling in love with the teacher and we were able to find that in Two By Two as well: good curriculum, nice working environment, family vibe, involved parents, caring teachers, awesome facilities, the best custodian ever, etc. Niko, baby #2 came and no research was necessary this time thanks to his big brother. Coming back to work and starting daycare happened at 8 weeks this time. At the moment we have our 2 boys at the daycare and couldn't be happier. Everybody keeps telling us that we have very smart kids and we like to think it's because we are good parents, but the reality is that they are very stimulated and well taken care of at Two By Two. After reading the reviews, I thought this would be a good Pre-K experience for my child, I couldn't have been more wrong. A lot of parents are being left in the dark and things are being swept under the rug when it comes to the treatment of some of the children. In my case, the teacher, Ms. Russell, was aggressive and used scare tactics as a form of discipline but when she opted to physically grab my child, this was a problem. Expressing my concerns to upper management didn't help, the director and co owner were nonchalant and unbothered by the entire situation. In fact, the male co-owner told me that children lie and he knows because he has a lot of grandchildren therefore my child must've made this up in his mind! He went on to tell me how great of a teacher Ms. Russell was and sang her high praises. This is not what you do when a child repeats several times that the teacher manhandled him! Before this situation was even resolved, Ms. Russell had the audacity to pack up my sons belongings and leave them at the front desk without me even knowing or anyone ever even contacting me to come and pick them up, it was almost like they kicked him out for blowing the whistle on one of their long time teachers. The levels of rudeness, disrespectfulness and lack of empathy from the staff speaks volumes about this center! Don't be fooled, listen to your children and pay attention to all red flags. What happened to my child is not an isolated incident!!! It is not safe to leave your children here, the staff is truly disgusting! read more

Two by Two is one of the few child daycare schools that take infants. A huge plus!! My daughter started at Two by Two at 4.5 months old when I returned to work. First and foremost, the staff and teachers are AMAZING. They have taken great care of my daughter and have been wonderful about providing updates on my daughter's progress or day, and with making announcements to all parents regarding any incidence of sickness (ie Coxsackie virus). I can genuinely say, the teachers here care about their children and are extremely competent and responsible. My daughter has been at Two by Two until she was 19 months old. She looked forward to going to school here everyday. Unfortunately, we had to leave as we moved out of the area. If we were back in the area, I would enroll my daughter back in a heartbeat. As the face of the company and the first person you see upon arrival you should be ashamed and embarrassed to even be showing up to work everyday knowing this isn't the job for you. Your unprofessional and your attitude is disgusting and it is clear as day that this isn't the position for you. Who in their right mind gets upset at concerned parents asking questions about their child? You are in a place of business and you are caring for human beings children at that not just things. If a concerned parent comes in with 50 questions you should be accommodating for all 50 questions and in fact asked if I had one more question. Your staffs slick comments about me being "here again" was unnecessary you are watching my child I will be here today and tomorrow and everyday as long as MY CHILD IS IN YOUR CARE! ARE YOU DUMB? DO YOUR JOB BECAUSE ITS WHAT YOU GETTING PAID FOR ! It's embarrassing that you had to be pulled aside regarding your behavior towards me all for asking questions that you wasn't in the mood for. After speaking with the school director to de-escalate things Miss Heather decides to walk out of the conversation and say she "can't do this today" so clearly you shouldnt be doing this any other day either. As for the facility in general it's not okay to have employees that represent the company in such a distasteful way and stand aside and do nothing about it but try to excuse Miss Heather for the way she rudely acted and for the way she behaved having a tantrum like a 2 year old in front of both parents and children AND the staff. This does not make me comfortable to leave my children with people who don't even want to work there. Your staff are confessing to parents your facility is understaffed and you guys are overwhelmed which I can understand but it's still no excuse for the way Miss Heather acted today it's unacceptable and completely disgusting. The fact that I had to keep my composure for the sake of the children not having to witness such distasteful behavior from their staff is ridiculous. I absolutely do not recommend this place and I DO NOT FEEL SAFE LEAVING MY CHILD IN CARE WITH ILL MANNERED STAFF! read more

Both my sons currently attend. They are 3 and 1 and have been going there since they were about 4 months. I love this place and so do they. The staff is friendly and while there have been some attrition with new staff members, there are still many familiar teachers. I felt really good dropping off my second son when it was his turn with teachers in the infant room that also took care of my first. They do so many activities and take the kids out every day when it's nice out (and we get to see the pics on instagram!). We've moved away from the neighborhood but yet we made the decision to keep them here (and plus it was on my way to work) because we (and they) love it. read more

We started offering our soccer classes to Two by Two this year and have had a very good experience with the children and staff. The administrative team is constantly looking to improve their programs and processes to keep the children safe and to create the best possible environment for learning. The teachers are very caring, personable, kind, and gentle with the children and the janitor cleans the facility very well and regularly cleans the play areas, bathrooms, and common areas. There are large play spaces indoor and outdoor which we've used for soccer. The environment at Two by Two is like a family. Every member of their team cares very much about the children, their growth, and education. We have been very impressed with their school and look forward to positively impacting the children at Two by Two in the future. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this school. When I first enrolled my daughter I was skeptical of all the overwhelmingly positive reviews, but having attended for 6 months now, I am more than pleased. The first great thing is how flexible the school is with their hours. The whole process of getting my daughter enrolled and transitioning her into the school was almost effortless. This was a huge relief to me, as my daughter was 2.5 years old at the time, and had never attended a daycare before. I had to make a few changes to my schedule in the following months and they graciously accommodated me each time. The atmosphere at 2by2 is instantly warm and welcoming and open. There is a bright open space in the classrooms with two large balconies as well as an open rooftop play area. In addition to that there is a large playroom on the lower level where yoga classes are held once a week for the children! The teachers and administrators are all so friendly as well. I have been so pleased by the amount of personal attention that has been given to my child as well. Once, when my daughter had a fever, when I arrived to pick her up, Miss Raganda had her on her lap and was placing a wet towel on her forehead to help with her fever. I was so touched to see my child being treated the way I as her mother would treat her when she is sick. The teachers also share photos and updates with parents throughout the day, so that we as parents can see that they are always engaged in fun, creative activities. I am blown away by how much my child has learned in the past 6 months. She is already able to write and trace a few letters! Thanks to 2by2 my daughter now has so many friends and is having a wonderful early childhood experience! read more

Our son went here from 3 months - two years old and I highly recommend it. We only left because we moved out of the neighborhood and we were sad to leave. All of the teachers he had there are great and he learned a lot while attending. We also really appreciated their flexibility with scheduling. He went part-time and they were very accommodating whenever we needed to add or switch days or hours. It was perfect for my freelance work schedule. They also stay open later than a lot of daycares in the area. We found their rates to be similar to the others we explored in the area. Highly recommend for any age. read more

We had a work situation where we were only going to be in town for a few months, and Eli Hirschfed worked with us and was able to fit us in. The teachers are very gentle and kind, and the children are engaged in multiple activities throughout the day. Disclaimer: my child has never attended this school therefore I can not speak of the teachers capabilities or educational curriculum. What I can however is speak of the incompetence of the administrative staff. I came across two by two via their website, which portrayed the school's Generations (4K) program to look great. The pictures on the website showed a nice spacious classroom with a beautiful outdoor space. We applied to the school via the myschools.gov website and scheduled a tour. In person the school is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like they portray on their website. They have taken the " Nice and spacious classroom" and divided it into 3 individual classes, with the smallest being a loft space the size of an 8 by 12 room and 6 ft ceilings. (I'm guessing they did this to get more kids enrolled and milk more money from the city for their school). Ultimately based on the tour we decide two by two was not for us and declined the offer on the my schools website. I would have NEVER thought about leaving this review if it was not for the events following the tour. After we declined two by two we accepted and offer to a great school we were very excited to send our child. HOWEVER, in some way inconceivable to me TWO BY TWO removed my child from the acceptance at the other school and accepted their own school on my child's profile. Unbeknownst to me and with out my permission! The only reason I found out was bc the principal at our school of choice called to tell me my child had been removed from their fall roster. I called the DOE, and the director I spoke with confirmed that TBT had taken us off the list at the other school. Now as it stands my child's spot at the other school was given to the next person on the waitlist and we have no way to get it back as the fall roster is full. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US. I am writing this review bc DOE said Two by Two would not be reprimanded for the incompetent actions that caused us to be removed from our school of choice. This is a warning to other parents to beware of the administration at this school. read more

My family loves Two by Two! Both of my children attended Two by Two, my son beginning as a toddler in the Apples classroom, and my daughter as an Orange. Overall, Two by Two was a very positive influence on our family, and we highly recommend it. We found each and every one of the teachers and staff to be genuinely warm and caring, and were impressed with how they really got to know every child as an individual. As for the administration, we found them to be both personable and responsive to the needs of working parents. A few people in particular - Miss Vanessa, who did a great job of helping my anxious son smoothly adjust to daycare; Miss Danielly, who my son absolutely ADORED; Mr Stephen, who both my kids think tells the best jokes and stories; Miss Alicia, now an administrator at the school, who taught my daughter to write her name and had her thoroughly prepared to enter public school; Miss Tiffany, who has introduced lots of creative sensory activities (homemade play dough, cooking, gardening) to her classroom; Miss Kenverlyn; Miss Mildred; toddler whisperer Miss Dominique; Miss Gloria; Miss Ria... ... all in all, a really fantastic group of people that my children still speak fondly of. read more

Last week was the last day at two by two for both my kids. We are moving to California and I promise of all the things I will miss about ny (which are fewer than most things for me) I will greatly miss this school and most of all the staff! My daughter Mia has been going there since 16 months and my son Bodhi started at 6 months. It makes it very easy to drop your kids off when they LOVE school and don't even want to go home after a full day. I can tell you a 100% that these teachers and administration love and care for the kids like family! I taught yoga briefly to some teachers giving me the opportunity to know them better and I only grew to love and understand the school better. So before I ramble on here is a list of what I love: 1. They love your kids and you know the kids are loved when u walk out that door 2. They care about the curriculum and your opinion - make a suggestion or participate in a class they will always listen and invite you in. 3. They rotate the teachers a few times a year giving everyone a chance to change it up and know everyone and sometimes work 2-3 times with your kids at various stages of their life. 4. They try to speak Spanish, integrate music, yoga, and are always doing educational things in a fun creative way. 5. It's a bright clean colorful space 6. If you give them the chance they will All become like family. 7. My kids always wanted to stay longer and play! I can come up with an 8,9,10 but I think I covered the most important things for me! The teachers are good, spaces are bright. I found the classes to have too many children to teachers. They said there would be a teacher to 6 children but this was rarely the case. When there were younger kids brought into the class, as others graduated to the older classes, my two year old was often neglected with a diaper not changed and a dirty face. I found 20 kids with one teacher unacceptable and I left. The staff and teachers are good, the hours are flexible, I think if you are very aware, visit and check on the class and ask the teachers to make sure they have enough staffing, it would be a decent place. My son has been going to Two by Two since he was 5 months old and he is now 3 years old. We love it! When he was a baby I was really nervous to leave him somewhere. In fact, when I first left him he hadn't ever been able to take a bottle. The caretakers in the infant room were so warm and sweet and knowledgeable. They had him taking a bottle with no problem and he really attached to them. As he has grown and moved through the different rooms he has made new attachments with those teachers while still seeing the familiar faces he knew from the rooms before. The teachers have all been amazing. They are all very sweet and patient and smart. It feels very warm and family like there. He is now there 4 days a week and you can tell he has a really special bond with the other kids he goes to school with. Some days when I pick him up he doesn't want to leave he likes it so much! I've also been amazed the things that he learns there. He comes home every day with something new to tell me about. Every week there are new songs and art projects and they are all incorporated into a general lesson plan....an overall concept that they are learning and talking about. We have been there since they opened and as a relatively new center I find that the administration is more than willing to work with parents to make the school the best it can be. They are very open to making changes that the parents feel are important. There is also a great group of parents that really care and are very involved. It has been a great community and a great place that I feel confident to leave my son to grow and learn. The space itself is wonderful too. Brand new and filled with light. read more

My daughter, Alexandra, has been at Two by Two since she was four months old. As a working parent, finding a daycare to leave my infant was such a difficult process. However, when I met with the teachers and the administration at Two by Two, I felt that it was a caring place to leave my baby. Now over two years later, Alex is thriving and learning so much! She loves her teachers and she loves her friends there. The school is following the Reggio Emilia approach of instruction; hands on learning through the child's interest. Alex is always coming home with new projects and singing new songs. She is almost three and she can write letters and identify numbers. They have already taken two field trips - to a museum and a farm. It so great seeing all of the toddlers on the big bus!! This summer they have already planned great activities every week and emailed it to the parents for feedback. Most importantly, the teachers are so caring and the administration is willing to work with the parents. Teachers write daily in a notebook or on a daily sheet so parents have a snapshot of what their child did that day (including what they ate and how long they napped but also how they played and what they learned). There is a PTA that meets with administration to provide open communication. I am so happy that we chose Two by Two - Alex is so happy there and the parents are really great. It is also so close to the Lorimer L train (and G train - but who takes that?!) which makes drop off and pick up so much easier. read more

We were very happy at 2x2. Their hours were flexible and they were teaching our kiddos at a pre-k level at age 3. Definitely one of the better daycares for those with a flexible schedule and last minute needs. Affordable as well. read more

I just called to schedule a tour and after repeating myself 3 times the person asked for my name. After I gave her my name. She asked again what is this in reference to. I repeated myself and told her I was looking for a Preschool for my 3 yr old son. She then said that the school only takes girls not boys. That information is not stated on their website. I heard about this preschool from the internet, I fount myself randomly googling daycares and bumped into this one. From the website I had a feeling it would be a great place to check out, so I came to check out the preschool earlier this week. A young lady who will be working here gave me a tour, it opens this Fall 2011. From the looks of the place I can tell everything will be lovely here.
