My child takes art here every week and really loves it. The teachers offer a wide variety of very thought-out projects.

"It was so cool that when I finished lunch I could go do whatever I wanted, I didn't have to follow a group like in other camps." Her favorites were the giant slip and slide, the film studio, and the game show at the end of the day. She also liked how she could always go get a snack from the counselor in the cafe whenever she was hungry. "There was fruit and goldfish and homemade yogurt things. It was great!" The setup of this camp allows children to really take ownership of their day, from what they choose to play, to when they eat a snack, to who they spend their time with. It is a very unique idea for a NYC camp, and it was the perfect place for my daughter. She can't wait to go back!

I don't know about the other locations, but I think the person who runs this location (Mike) really goes above & beyond! My daughter loves all the activities and the counselors are all great. I've spoken to a bunch and they all seem to be college seniors or work in education (not the teenagers that some other camps seem to have). We didn't know what to expect since I couldn't find any reviews and didn't know too many people who went last year, but this has truly exceeded all of our expectations!

I've never been to a NY Kids club (this is not a review of any of the teaching staff here) but I've lost $5000 to them. In Nov I called to enquire about their preschool program for 2s and expressed interest in visiting the school a few days later. The woman I spoke to over the phone told me there was one spot left. I told her I would wait to see the facility but she said I could secure a spot with a $5000 completely refundable deposit if I cancelled before April (as the spot would likely go before my visit). I paid, my mom ended up at Sloan Kettering the next day, then my daughter was sick, and the holidays came and went. But none of that matters. I was told I had until April. I requested a refund and was told ten days later refunds were not given. I spoke with the front desk- the employee who gave me a false verbal policy and processed my payment no longer worked there. Surprise! After the front desk spoke with the district manager I received a terse email 24hrs later requesting me to read their policy. I would have loved to read their policy, if I were given one before payment. I would've loved to have signed something via email or in person but still haven't even walked by the location. Sending me their real policies after payment doesn't matter, as there are no refunds period. I'm asking for a refund for a program 9 MONTHS in advance and I never signed a contract. No refunds. Must be a very in demand place. Update: I hired a lawyer and they promptly refunded my money.

My teen attended the summer camp and had fun with the other campers. We traveled from out of town…read moreand stayed in a hotel for the week as a special experience for her. One of the days my daughter stated that she kept asking for help and was ignored by the teachers for over an hour. I double checked the class to confirm it stated all levels of sewing experience and it does, to include beginners. While my child has experience sewing for 10+ years and previous sew camps, it is my expectation that if she asked for help, she would not be ignored. On the last day, my teen was unable to put the dress she had sewed on as they forget to include a zipper in the pattern. She stated that she mentioned multiple times that week, what about the zipper, and was ignored. She bought a zipper on their field trip and my understanding is it was the teacher's responsibility to help create a pattern (i.e. include a zipper). My daughter's dress was ripped - she ended up crying before the fashion shoot as the straps were ripped as were the sides. A floor length dress made out of satin is impossible to put over your head, without a zipper. My daughter felt as if she was being gas lighted by one of the teachers when the other teacher realized the mistake as they tried to figure out how to get the dress on her, pin it with safety pins, etc. and the teacher blamed it on my child stating she never asked for a zipper. My daughter didn't want me to reach out but I met the owner and thought she was nice and figured she had no clue what transpired and she would want to learn from this so the team could improve. I reached out the next week, left a voice mail and never received a call back. I specifically stated I wanted to speak to the owner, listed her name and shared my number and that I wanted to share some feedback from the teen camp. What could have been an amazing experience ended really poorly with a bad taste. While my daughter had fun, she should have left with a dress that wasn't ripped and for $900 I would expect the teachers to make sure the dress was actually functionable and that the child would leave with a completed product that works. If the class states all levels, someone should have made sure this dress had a zipper and my child didn't leave with a dress ripped on both sides and the top. Very disappointing.

In short, if you have a quirky child who may require extra attention then this may not be the camp…read morefor you. However, if you have an easy going child who rarely has a hiccup in life then definitely consider Dwight Summer Camp. This is our 6th summer attending a local camp and in past years we have been to Bank Street, Oasis and FastBreak. PROS: Dwight's facilities are gorgeous (i.e., indoor pool, a basketball court, enclosed outdoor space etc.) and their curriculum for Adventure camp was impressive (i.e., seeing a Broadway play etc.). CONS: Unfortunately our experience did not end well. My child is ADHD which I discussed with the camp prior to signing up. I was assured this would not be an issue and reminded that the camp has a low student to counselor ratio and that their staff is comprised of experienced staff working in the field of education. My child does take medication so all things combined, it sounded like a recipe for success. In reality I was called on two occasions and told my child would need to be picked up from camp immediately. On one occasion the person calling stated "we aren't sure what happened but we can discuss when you get here." Call me crazy but as a customer the very least they could do is figure out what happened BEFORE calling me. On another occasion the camp director expressed that I was on speaker phone and "did I want to say anything to my child." My child can be anxious and sensitive so I responded by saying I would speak to them in person since I suspect they may have hard time verbalizing themselves if they are emotional. The director responded with "well, they were doing a good job of verbalizing how much they don't like this camp." Umm, well... my child is 8... and probably upset... maybe even scared... (and, yes) behaving poorly given the circumstances.... but YOU are an adult AND the director so maybe try and show up with a bit more compassion. This is a job for which you are paid to do and I am helping to pay that salary. At the time of that call I was in another state for work but expressed I would reach out to the sitter and ask them to pick-up my child. The director then expressed that my being away might explain my child's poor behavior. Ouch... I felt a bit helpless being half away across the country and that definitely felt like a kick when I was already down. I fully admit that my child is rambunctious, sometimes difficult and never perfect. They are also kind, smart, loving and desperate to feel like they belong. I've gotten my fair share of calls or requests "to speak." It's never fun and more often than not I feel disappointed but I show up, I listen and I work hard with my child to ensure the next day is a better day. Having been at this for several years I've encountered many people who lack compassion and probably should find another profession. I expect it. But in the years I have been doing this, never has a camp or program demanded I pick-up my child. In the 3 weeks we attended Dwight we had more good days then bad but the bad days were handled so poorly that I am certain we won't be returning.

The overall vibe is wonderful, everyone is smiling (in a genuine way). And to top it off, the staff are very helpful and accommodating if unusual or difficult situations arise. The director helped me when my son was struggling a bit with wanting to go to camp,, she was a lifesaver.
