His home is beautiful and CLEAN and the breakfast was hearty and delicious. Our bedroom was beautifully appointed, with a clean and comfortable bed (and excellent water pressure in the shower - a must for me). We enjoyed sitting on the spacious front porch and also walking through the neighborhood to view the lovely historic homes. When we visit Quincy again, we will surely return to the Gaslamp Inn!

I'm reviewing this business 1 month after their grand opening, so as they expand some of these details may change. Currently they have coffee and lotus options and a couple small packaged snacks (goldfish crackers, etc). They have all the expected coffee options including iced, hot, lattes, and milk substitutes. They have unique lotus flavors with fun names like "sidewalk chalk". Unfortunately I'm pregnant and am limiting my caffiene intake, but the few drinks I've had here have been super yummy and affordably priced. I'd easily compare the quality to other small coffee shops in town.  The real highlight though is their play area- which is essentially an indoor gated play room filled with toys age appropriate for kids 1 to 8. My two girls (a 1 year old and a kindergartener) absolutely love the area. There is a soft cushion climbing area, an ice cream/ coffee cart, building toys, dinosaurs, and books. They do seem to rotate toys and there are often new fun things to find. All of the toys are clean and very well-maintained. They do have a separate area just for young babies as well.  Parents can sit in the play area or at a bar that lines the area, looking in. There are also couches, comfy chairs, and cafe tables. I prefer the bar area, as I can watch my children while also working on my laptop, writing in my planner, etc on the bar top. One thing I very much appreciate is that the ambiance music is kept at a very low volume- which I think helps keep the kids at a low volume as well. The decor is comfy and gives kind of an earthy boho "beige mom" vibe- which again, is very calming. The staff are very friendly and easy going and seem to allow free-play without micromanaging the kids.  I'm just so grateful a place like this came to Quincy. We'll be frequent flyers here. Clean, kid friendly, welcoming, and comfy. What more could a mom ask for in a coffee shop?

This woman was rude the second I walked in. As we were finishing our check in she told us we needed a $200 cash deposit to rent the room. Wtf is that about. After 2 hours of being there they accused us of smoking in the room. My husband doesn't smoke and she watched me walk outside several times to smoke. As this got progressively worse she said she took pictures of the room but wouldn't show us the pictures which tells me she's lying about it. She kept our 200 dollars which I think is illegal considering she has our credit card on file. I'm pretty sure she put it in her pocket. She didn't like us the minute we were pissed about the 200 cash deposit so she discriminated against us. Her coworker said she didn't smell cigarette smoke but she ignored that completely. I asked for her supervisors number she wouldn't give it. I asked for corporate number she gave me hotel number. She obviously doesn't want me to talk to anyone above her. My brother is a lawyer and he say YES SHE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST US.

We were finally greeted by our server 15 minutes after being seated, after the couple seated just before us walked out. We ordered drinks and the crab rangoon and humus appetizers. We had to ask again for menus since we were never given any (we were seated with torn and stained appetizer/tapas menus). Drinks finally arrived 10 minutes after ordering. My gin & tonic arrived with an old and dried out lime on the rim, which on the surface seems like a petty complaint, but wasn't surprising considering the overall experience. By the time we ordered our food, we had been seated for 30 minutes. I don't normally keep track of restaurant timelines, but decided to this time around since I could tell early on that this would be a marathon meal. Our appetizers arrived over 20 minutes after we ordered them. You can see that I posted a tip about 5 months ago saying that One has the best crab rangoon I've ever eaten, so I was pretty excited about that. The fried outside pastry was delicious and prepared perfectly, but it was more of a cream cheese rangoon this time around with only one of the five we received having any sign of crab. The humus appetizer was really tasty, with the red pepper humus in the center of the other two being excellent. As we were eating our appetizers, a large group seated across the room from us started playing a very loud party game that would've been better suited for a private room. Had I not already been annoyed, the distraction may not have been so bad, but it was pretty obnoxious and took away from the best part of the meal: the conversation. The food finally arrived about an hour and ten minutes after we arrived. I ordered the General Tso chicken, which I have had at One before without issue, but it was so salty this time around that I couldn't eat more than a few bites. By the time we got the checks and left, it was 8pm, 1 hour and 40 minutes after we arrived. The staff apologized several times throughout the meal, saying they were busy, but the restaurant didn't even start to fill up until just before we left (mostly for the band). What we saw was a wait staff that was completely underprepared for a moderately busy Saturday night dinner service, and what we tasted was indicative of a kitchen whose standards had fallen or who just didn't care. The table beside us waited so long that they actually pulled out a deck of cards and started playing poker. It sounds unbelievable, but I will post the photo I took because I knew no one would believe me otherwise. Of my 3 trips to One, this one was unbelievably bad, and by far the worst. It's definitely not at the top of my list for a return visit.
