We had a consultation to review what was going on with my body. Then, she brought me downstairs into her wonderful massage space. The massage was beyond amazing. La Juana's hand work is strong and moved with intention to address my problem areas. She was very accommodating during the massage: variations in pressure for different areas, music, temperature, etc. At the end, she gave me recommendations for stretches, products, etc. I had a wonderful time here and can't wait for my next appointment! read more

LaJuana has a true gift. Her space is the very definition of welcoming and healing. On a trip to NYC, I booked my partner and myself the 60-minute massage. The experience was so intentional, starting with a short consultation during which she asked questions to get to know us better, and then an explanation of what to expect during the massage. She used a variety of techniques during the massage that reminded me of Thai massage + Swedish + hot stones and some other tools that I had never experienced before. As a Black and Asian person respectively, my partner and I both value wellness care facilitated by people of our same identities. The quality of the energy here is so easy to surrender to. The SPAaaht is housed in what was formerly a violin boutique, and hosts a winding staircase that leads to where the major services are performed. La Juana, the proprietor, will sit and discuss your needs/preferences before any services begin. I liked that this felt more comfortable than the cold, clinical feel you get at some places where you start by filling out generic forms. I delayed writing this review for a number of selfish reasons. The first one being that this is one of those places where you go to relax. I love the idea that all services are done through appointments so there is no annoying pair or group of hens gossiping and cackling while I am trying to get my Zen on. The minute you walk in, you enter a calming atmosphere with a scent that soothes your fears. I have always left here feeling and looking 1,000x better than when I first walked in. The products used are organic, natural and smell wonderfully. If you have sensitive skin or are concerned with what goes on or into your body this is a great place to check out. La Juana had no problem with my inquiries in this regard. I honestly feel that she enjoys her work and that it's not just a job. Her ability to turn a facial or massage into a luxurious experience is unique and not to be missed. Setting up an appointment was very easy and the customer service is top notch. I came for the footcial for the first time today, and it was easily the best pedicure experience I have ever had! La Juana is amazing, professional and the energy that she has cultivated in the spa is palpable. It's cozy, comfortable and calming. The second you come in you're greeted with a huge smile and the sweetest smells of the lotions and potions she uses. The footcial was about an hour long and the first pedicure I have had since the start of the pandemic. La Juana took super good care and left my feet feeling baby soft and incredibly healthy. Her polishes are Vegan and very good for your nails and the exfoliating massage was amazing. It is a dry pedi so be prepared that it's different than your average pedi but it was unlike anything else I've had done and is worth every penny! If you live in the area or want to spend some time relaxing before hitting Riverside park, I cannot recommend La Juana and The Spaaht enough. I'd been meaning to try to place because it's so close to me and it has amazing reviews. First of all I walked in and loved the vibe and atmosphere. It's cozy, warm, and has all the amenities you can think of to make the experience as relaxing as possible. The space was very clean and I felt very safe there. I also like that it's one customer at a time so no rush and no pressure. The actual massage was incredible. I told her my areas of pain and she hit them well. To my utter surprise, the pedi is a dry pedi; the owner justifies saying it's because better higiene-I want to be optimistic and avoid further articulating so I decide to just relax. Tools they use do not seem to be professional grade-that would explain why it takes longer than you'd expect to do the job, and the result is anything but satisfying. The rest of the story is embarrassing to say the least-they have no drying device, so the moment I leave the place, my mani is completely ruined. I had a wonderful massage with Dawud - he focused on my problem areas (shoulders and lower back) and also stretched out my hips and hamstrings (I didn't even realize I needed that!) He is very knowledgeable and glad to share his thoughts on things if you're interested. For example, we were discussing nutrition and he reminded me that leafy greens are the best way to get iron. Instead of going to a large chain, go to a small business who will listen to you and care about you. They had to close for a while due to a fire in the brownstore next door, but they are back now.
