I would say this isn't your grandma's Southern Salad, but it actually hasn't been that long since the change up. They took a few months to give everything a new look and I have to admit, it paid off! Of course with the new look came a new menu. More than just salad, it is a full on deli (hence the name change). And for my first revisit, a southern Cuban. As I sat in front window seat (too warm to be outside already), I sipped my tea and eagerly awaited. This is a small place, but it has a lot to offer. As with any salad place, the obvious caveat is that you could just buy some vegetables yourself, so the value here is in convenience and quality. They source their own greens, and the vegetables are local, and they all looked very nice. I could have customized, but I went for the Carolina Chickpea as a preset option. It delivered a robust mix of flavors with generous cheese to make it more filling. I got a nice honey mustard dressing on the side, but hardly needed it. The rustic countryside surrounding Augusta suggests there should be opportunities to eat some nice vegetables, but in so many places I find this is not the case. This was a go-to place for me since I moved here a few years ago but the menu recently changed. No more Triple B grain bowl (my favorite food item in all of Augusta). The grain bowls and toasts look to be gone completely. The website is not updated either, still lists the former offerings. I'm very disappointed and can't see myself coming back with the new menu. I wanted to love this place but it really disappointed me. I wish we had Mix't or Chopt or Sweet Green here in Augusta because I just love a nice salad. But the salads at SoSal are just plain unlovable. My order: My salad was okay, the chipotle vinaigrette was very sweet with no detectible spice or smokey flavor. I ordered one of the specialty salads and the flavors didn't really come together well for me. Mediocre but the best item in today's order. 5/10 because veggies seemed fresh. My partners salad was sandy. 1/10 because he was able to eat a few bites before giving up I also ordered 2 peanut butter balls. The dominant flavor was dish soap or hand sanitizer with undertones of rancid oats. Nice idea but 0/10 execution I have some major gripes on the pricing and policies. My $2 of avocado was hardly there and sunflower seeds are a premium ingredient? Give me a break. I had to order a build your own salad just to swap dressings on one of the specialty salads because there is a no substitution rule for online orders. If you are vegan or have a dairy allergy expect to pay extra. On top of that there are no vegan main dish items despite vegan keyword stuffing through the marketing material and 5 star reviews (which leads me to question, are they even real?). The set up when we went was a little confusing. We couldn't tell if we were supposed to order at the little kiosk or go up. There was line at the kiosk only, so when in Rome as they say. Clearly ordering at the kiosk was a mistake though, because apparently you can just walk up to the counter, it's kind of subways style, and order which means you'll get your food dramatically faster. Nonetheless ordering issues aside the food was pretty good. The cornbread they give you is actually much better than the salads themselves. I had a southwest salad and my bf had a breakfast bowl type deal. They were fine, but I would argue not really worth the money. The green smoothie I had was delicious tho, and I would highly recommend it. Despite my slight disappointment with the food for the value I think I'll still try a few different salads before I write this place off for a healthy lunch. read more

I'm changing my diet and had read about a new restaurant opening downtown, so of course I had to try it. Walking up to it, the white decor gives it an open feel. There was a little line, but it was going very quickly. There was so many options to choose from and I wanted EVERYTHING! Lol I chose to go with a quinoa base with butter crunch lettuce, chicken, chickpeas, cheddar cheese, grapes, cucumbers, tomatoes, topped with strawberry vinaigrette dressing, and a side of pita bread. It was soo good, I felt it in my spirit! The BEST salad I've EVER had! The total came to about $14 because I added a drink. Everything tasted very fresh, I even had some to take home. Had the Carolina Chickpea bowl with some added hard boiled eggs and a squeeze of lemon. It was pretty tasty. Number 1 and most important the food was fresh and very tasty. Number 2, great clean paved parking at the back of the shop if you require it. Number 3 which let the side down. It was just a tad over 12 dollars for the bowl without a drink. This cute salad restaurant is tucked in the heart of downtown Augusta. This area is about the most hip, fun and active as it gets in Augusta, GA. There is free parking throughout the day. There are also various food options along the downtown strip. The interior is what I would consider garden retro. This is my first time trying it and I didn't know what to order. The girl who worked there suggested a few options. One option she recommended was the poke bowl. I decided to give it a try. My husband tried the burrito bowl. The poke bowl was nothing remarkable. The vegetables seemed fresh, but the tuna didn't look or taste too fresh. The girl who made my bowl oversaturated it with soy sauce and spicy Mayo. Granted she did ask if I wanted it on the side so it was my fault. I've had better poke bowls, like at Hello Poke. I don't think I would come back for the poke bowl here. My husband's burrito bowl wasn't great either. He said that the ingredients didn't really make sense. He felt like there wasn't any cohesiveness in the bowl. The flavors didn't mesh well with each other. We both ended up not finishing our bowls. I think this restaurant has a lot of potential. I want to give it another try later on because I love salads and healthy grain bowls. I hope that they will refine and improve their recipes. I love this concept! I think the menu is awesome. Went at 12pm on a Thursday and we were the only ones dining. I built my own salad, my friend built her own bowl, and he son had Nutella toast. Food was great. They also had a shake and got some cookies to go. I had my puppy and we were able to sit outside, I think that's a great option. Loss of star for employee. I came in and he said hello, but didn't ask if he could help me. It was my first time, so I ordered in the kiosk, which was a bit cumbersome IMO. I wish he'd asked if he could help me with my order instead.... It would have been faster. After I placed my order on the kiosk he prepared it. He was really just not super friendly or helpful. Went to Southern Salad for a quick lunch. We both did the build your own salad option. The staff were friendly and willing to explain the process. There were ample ingredients to choose from. We also shared a cup of black bean soup that was very flavorful, rich, creamy and delicious. For my build your own, I did cilantro rice and TSS greens mix, marinated beets (to die for), butternut squash, pickled red onions, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, cilantro and shrimp--with the cilantro and lime dressing. Southern Salad is my new favorite lunch spot in Augusta! Luckily for me, it is in walking distance from my office and they offer online ordering. They also deliver on Augusta To Go. So far I've tried the Fall Bowl and the Triple B Grain Bowl, both of which were delicious. The Pumpkin Goddess dressing is amazing (Psst - please keep it around all year!). I really love the make your own salad option and I got farro and their lettuce mix, pickled watermelon rind, roasted brussel sprouts, squash, and their basil salad dressing. This place is such a welcomed addition to the Augusta food scene! When I walked in I was greeted warmly by the staff and the fresh, hip decor. Since I came for breakfast, I wasn't in the mood for a salad but was torn between the smoothies and the toast options. I ended up going with the Avocado Toast (I made a deal with myself that I would try the smoothies at a later date). The toast came in a cute little box and looked divine! I eat with my eyes and nose as much as my mouth and I wasn't disappointed! The toast was perfectly toasted so it was crisp on the top and edges but still squishy and fresh. The toast was covered in avocado spread and was topped with strawberries, cherry tomatoes, micro greens, and a delicious balsamic vinegar. There is something amazing about being able to have any salad topping you can think of, ready to build the perfect . I really enjoyed mine and I got a "side salad" for my little ones, which consisted of 4 toppings. They really enjoyed the variety of veggies & fruits and I did as well. Decided to check this place out and see what the hype was all about. The decor is a nice mix of rustic and modern and it smells like new furniture. My main complaint as a first timer: I was a little overwhelmed and not sure what to do. There were only a few pre made recipes to choose from on the board, but nothing that felt like a complete salad. Also, prices are a bit on the high end, but I guess that's to be expected for premium ingredients. Dinner for two ran nearly $30 after tip, and we both got water to drink. I had the TSS (mixed greens, goat cheese, pecans, fresh watermelon, pickled watermelon rinds, cornbread croutons, and the above mentioned sweet tea vinaigrette) that was served with jalapeño cheddar cornbread. MJ had a build your own salad with shrimp, butternut squash, Brussels, vidalia onion honey mustard, and a few other fun things I can't remember. They were both delicious! Staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations, which is always a plus in a different place. Everything seemed to be very fresh. They also have a variety of bottles beers and juices. Finally got to try The Southern Salad and I can't believe it took me so long, this place is amazing! Ingredients were super fresh and the variety was endless. I ended up getting the Mediterranean grain bowl and my girlfriend got here Caesar Salad; didn't realize until later that you could get protein options added of you wanted. I have ordered from The Southern Salad plenty of times and have usually had a good experience, lately every time I get a salad the lettuce is wilted, slimy, and brown. Huge fan! I love that there are healthy options available in Augusta! I tried to make my own salad once and that was a bad idea. But the gazillion times I have gone back, I get the Mediterranean Bowl and it NEVER disappoints. You can switch out ingredients to bc who eats artichokes? The ingredients are local, fresh and sustainable. All three very important things. I usually only get water bc after a $10 grain bowl + if I add protein (which I usually don't bc I'm cheap) + a kombucha, you're looking at a $15+ lunch. But if it's payday, I'll #treatmyself to an energy ball and a cold pressed juice bc they're both soooo good. Last thing, sometimes it has a funky smell that I can easily get over. The Southern Salad is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to go. Their austin Cobb salad is my usual go-to but this last time I ordered the SoSal crunchwrap. It was fresh, delicious, and filled me up with just eating half. My favorite part was the chipotle dressing and the spinach wrap that was perfectly pressed.
