The Social in Stokes Croft, appearences can definitey be deceiving, On 1st view it looks good, clean, relaxing and a welcoming place to kick back and relax on a weekend in those comfy leather sofa's whilst reading the papers and sipping on a nice Earl Grey, if you were doing only that, then it would fit the bill, but I went in there on Saturday, ordered a full english breakfast along with eggs benedict for my friend and well, if you wanted Salmonella from the undercooked eggs, you were at the right place, watery and undercooked eggs are not my idea of a good way to start a saturday morning!.
My breakfast was cold, the eggs were undercooked, the toast, just slightly cooked was cold and the beans well....hideous is the only word I find can describe how they tasted. They were cold, dry looking and thats before I had the pleasure of tasting them! I called over one of the members of staff and advised the girl that I wasn't happy with the breakfast, she looked at me like I was an alien and said whats wrong with it, I advised her that the beans looked overcooked and dry, her response was to say that they were homemade and had I tasted them, at this point I did dip my fork in and taste them to be hit with this overwhelming tomato puree taste....they were quite literally disgusting! Now, im all for trying out new food, but tomato puree homemade beans are not my thing, I think i'll stick with Heinz on my breakfast. Anyway, the girl did eventually take my plate back to the chef, but all they did was scrape the beans off my plate, along with the runny egg, no offer of making me a new egg and replace my already cold toast, with another set of cold toast!
Frankly annoyed doesn't even cut it! I went to speak to the chef myself and asked to speak to the manager only to be told by the chef, that no one else had complained about the food and what did I want him to do about it, ordinarily I would have fought my case a little more, but I was feeling unwell and couldn't be bothered, to be honest if they don't care about their reputation, customer service or lack of it then why should I?!! I will never go there again, the staff clearly don't give a damn, the chef practically laughed at me, I paid just under £7 for one sausage, which may i add, tasted lovely, but wasn't worth £7!!
I have never in my 35 years written a bad review about somewhere I've experienced poor service, but I feel so strongly about this that I felt I needed to put down in words just how disappointed and annoyed I felt after my visit to the Social on Saturday, my recommendation to the manager or owner, is to send your staff on a customer service course as a matter of urgency or the Social may just turn anti-social.... read more
