A friend owned a salon near Chicago previously, so this would be my first experience with an unfamiliar wax artisan, yet having seen great reviews for Melanie, was confident. The waiting area was clean, comfortable, and inviting. Immediately greeted and quickly checked in - wonderful for a first-time guest - even more excited to find out in-state residents receive half-price their first full bikini (their term for Brazilian). Feels like Christmas, let the games begin! By 4:15, the time of my appointment, I was notified Melanie was running a couple of minutes behind - loved the prompt notification - and by 4:17 Melanie was out greeting me. We walked back to the suite, I undressed while she prepped, and it was onto the table for business. Melanie was friendly, sweet, all smiles, conversational, informational, gentle, and darn good! In search of a new threading salon, I initially found EK Threading Salon on google maps. The salon…read morehad great reviews and there was even an advertisement for a groupon. My sister-in-law and mother-in-law were willing to accompany me to try the new salon and so we purchased the groupons and scheduled our appointment. When we arrived, we were greeted nicely. The salon had a couple of artists, one whom I believed to be the owner. She was pleasant, welcoming, and friendly to us all. She enjoyed chatting, especially since we had our culture and background in common, which was a nice personal touch. Mamta, the owner, threaded my mother-in-laws eyebrows, while myself and my sister-in-law were threaded by the other artist. All of our eyebrows turned out the way we wanted, as both artists were willing to listen to our direction. Mamta added another special touch by showing my mother-in-law one of her eyebrows to ensure that she liked it before matching the other one. The prices were reasonable at the salon, even without the groupon. We will definitely return and I feel like I have a new threading salon at EK Threading! :)

We picked a rich brown, she applied the color, said she would be back in 15 minutes but returned 25 minutes later. By then, my hair was black. After rinsing and drying, it was so dark, I was upset. She took forever it seemed to do a trim of 1/2 inch, and I just wanted to get out of there. No, I did not complain to the owner or stylist, but I should have; I was just upset, and the stylist knew it. I just need to find someone I can trust and who is experienced. I ended up going home and finding a product online that would strip out color gently, and after 3 applications of this product, my hair looked medium brown again instead of black. So disappointed in this local salon; maybe they should monitor or mentor their new hires better. I had gone here before for a trim with a different stylist, and she did do a good job, but she is part-time and is hard to schedule with.
