The Beacon is one of the newer venues on the scene. Originally built to provide a new home for the…read moream-dram Greenock Arts Guild, it quickly made a name for itself on the small-scale touring circuit and is now run by professional staff. It has a 500-seat main auditorium and a studio space and boasts stage facilities that quite a few main-scale theatres would be envious of. In fact, it's a shame that the main house only seats 500, as the stage is large enough to accommodate some fairly large gigs that would attract a large audience. The cafe/restaurant out front serves a very high standard of pre-theatre nosh too and offers great views over the Clyde. A nice place to sit with a coffee and gaze at the scenery.

I was given these tickets as part of my Christmas gift, and I was really excited that the night was finally here. The venue itself is set on the water, and in between various older buildings, so it kinda sticks out with it's modern feel to it, but it's still quite nice. We walked in and immediately to the right is their bistro which is a great place to come to for a meal during the day or for dinner and drinks at night. If we're ever back in the area, I'd like to stop in for a meal as there were a lot of great options to choose from on their menu and it smelled heavenly. There is a pretty big entry way where people can hang out during intermissions or before the shows. The toilets were bright and clean and easy to get to. The inside of the venue is great and we had really great seats. Four rows from the stage, dead centre. The only thing that was tough (and completely my fault) was needing to use to the toilet (too many pre-show drinks, ha!) during one of the opening shows. Being in the centre of the row of seats made for interrupting a bunch of people who didn't seem too thrilled about it. I was able to sit in a different row when I got back, for a few songs until the bad was done playing so I kept from interrupting any more people. All in all, the acoustics were great and the overall feeling of the venue was wonderful. Loads of seats and nice staff members to help you get to your seats. I would definitely come back for another show if we were to get tickets again.

Each starter had their own great flavor profiles and set our palates perfectly for what was to come. Be sure to meet Will who fully understands the menu and was quite fun to banter with a bit back and forth. Abbey was wonderful! She made excellent suggestions for our mains so we went with the venison, monkfish and lamb. Each was better than the last! Venison melts in your mouth! Monkfish was grilled perfectly and the lamb was pressed and almost like a confit!! Desert was just a awesome!! Raspberry sorbet with lemon tart, chocolate mousse and caramel as well as affagato using brown butter ice creme!! The experience was outstanding and the food was incredible!! Don't forget to get one or two Old Fashioned's from Matt who had been with the restaurant for 30 years!!! Don't miss this wonderful place on a quaint little alley on the west end!!

A Hidden Gem on Ashton Lane…read more Located on the fabulous and trendy Ashton Lane, this place is anything but typical. From the moment you step in, you can tell you're in for something special. The atmosphere is gorgeous -- a bright glass ceiling, lush plants all around, and a rustic stone floor that creates the perfect mix of romantic and relaxed. It feels ideal for a date night but also welcoming for families and friends. The food here is definitely on the high-end side, and while the portions are small for the price, what you're really paying for is excellence. Every bite showcases the chefs' skill, creativity, and attention to detail. The quality and flavor are absolutely superb -- the kind of dining experience you simply won't find anywhere else. We ordered the Pigeon Breast, Bramble, Chicory, Walnut , the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Organic Arran Leaf & Herb Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and both dishes completely blew us away. The flavor combinations were thoughtful, unique, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those special spots worth treating yourself to at least once. Whether it's a romantic evening or a celebration with friends, it's an unforgettable dining experience on one of Glasgow's most charming lanes.

The atmosphere inside is very relaxed--a lot of people coming in to meet up with friends for drinks, conversation, and good times. Of course, when there is a show going on this changes a bit--more energy and ambient noise (which is fine.) The service has also been good both times I've been. I was promptly attended to and food came out quick. Looking forward to my next visit!

I guess, what I'm trying to say is... Hug & Pint, I love you. I've only visited once. It was brief, and I barely sampled your wares. But my gosh, I love you and I am going to keep on coming back for more until you bar me from coming back. I'd never been to the Roxy 171 (oops) but I had been to the Liquid Ship and the layout of the Hug & Pint seems to be similar. Stairs up to the bar area and a nice, relaxed vibe. We got a couple of drinks at the bar and took a seat. It has a cosy vibe without seeming small, and the smell from the kitchen was incredible. I wasn't eating (sadly) but I am going back ASAP for the Asian-inspired vegan menu. There's aubergine on it. Need I say more?! Well, I will. The drinks selection is really good - Thistly Cross cider, Blue Moon, Brooklyn, Innis & Gunn. There's wine, spirits, Aperol and Sam Smith's organic fruit beer. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is that I think the Hug & Pint is perfect. I need to go back for more visits and to try the food, so maybe I'll lose the rose-tinted glasses. But for now, it's a 5-star first-visit love affair. Swoon.

The Judges, as I call it, because dropping one word is cool and saves time, is always a "must stop"…read moredestination when I'm in the West End. I even admit to cheating on Sub Crawls to head here instead of the closer Dolphin. It's one of the best, if not THE best real ale pubs in the city - it has an ever revolving array of guest ales, as well as a damn fine selection of regular ones. They offer 2 pint takeaway cartons, which may be the single greatest thing in a pub anywhere! The decor is best described as traditional and authentic, and it's always, ALWAYS busy. Here's a wee list: You Won't: - Be able to get served in less than 5 minutes from enterting - Find a table at first glance - Be able to swing a cat On the plus side, You Will: - Have a great pint, expertly pulled or poured. - Be able to ask the staff for advice on each ale on tap - Soak up the amazing atmosphere - Be able to look at the magic wee Glasgow tenement decoration on the wall with proper lights in it and everything - want to come back again and again and again. If you haven't been, why not? Go! Jump the subway to Kelvin Hall and knock yourself out. Not literally, that would hurt...

The Three Judges on Dumbarton road is a place that I have always been interested in going to but have never actually made it through the front door. On Saturday over 1/2 way through the crawl I finally entered and was very pleasantly surprised. It is a large place with loads of tables and a long bar. It looks very traditional in terms of style, but I would not call it an "old mans" pub in the normal sense. It is actually is pretty modern in some ways in terms of the various beers it has on offer. I went with one that I have had many times before (Sierra Nevada - bottle) and as always it was excellent. I think in the future I will venture back to try some of the many draught options that they have in stock. Interesting pub, great variety of beers options and well worth a look. 4 stars.
