We arrived around 5 PM on a Saturday and got seated right away. This place started getting packed around 530 PM so we were glad we arrived early. Service was good. Next in my list of north suburban restaurants to review: The Silo. This place has been here for decades... my parents were still in high school when they opened. I guess that says something, certainly about customer loyalty. And long term loyalty to a business is usually a good sign they're doing something right. They serve pan pizza and other stuff, but I've never had anything except the pizza, which is usually excellent. I'm usually more of a thin crust guy, but the pan here is super yummy. As I tend to note on my other pizza place reviews, they use quality ingredients, the crust is good and the sauce isn't too sweet. Nothing puts me off pizza faster than a sauce that tastes like someone spilled a half bag of sugar in it. I know my pizza, folks! And life is too short to eat stuff that tastes like Prego and Bisquick. Dining in is a fun experience here and they do a good business, especially for a pizza place which most people think of as takeout. My service has always been just fine. Anyone can have a bad day at work, but if they did I never noticed it. Stop in if you're in the area. You won't regret it. read more

Let me just say the food here at Silo was so good. Everything we ordered from wings, pizza, hamburgers, salads, fries, fried pickles was so good. We was told to go there because it came highly recommended from my son that's in the Navy. Omg this place won't disappoint. The food was hot and on time. Please tell everyone from waiter staff to the kitchen that everything was good. Everyone was nice and if I come back that way again, I will drive from Chicago to just come there to get my food. So we went to the Silo last night January 6th, 2024. It wasn't really busy and we got seated immediately. After looking the menu over we ordered our drinks. After waiting about 10 minutes, we finally got our drinks, no alcohol except a glass of wine, which was $12 for a wine tumbler size. Ridiculous. So when we got out drinks we put in an appetizer order of mushrooms which were good, but needed salt. After about 15 minutes our waitress came back and took the order. My pops ordered their sausage and peppers, my mother ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich, I ordered a 9" thin crust with sausage and pepperoni, with a side salad with no tomato and no cheese, my little niece got grilled cheese and my sister and her husband got a pan Supreme pizza. So waiting about 25 minutes food came. Now mind you, we've never had a problem with their food. It has been pretty decent to great. So my dad got the sausage and peppers and it was not good. The sausage was ground up and there was way too much pasta and it was too oily. He notified the waitress after she came back and checked in us. She took it away bit didn't remove from the bill. My mother's pork tenderloin sandwich, which was fried, was so tough she couldn't tear it apart. She also let the waitress know about it and that was still left on the bill. I got my salad with had no tomato, but I'm not kidding you, about half a pound of mozzarella cheese on it, which I asked to have without. Pizza was good. Like the crispness the top of the sausage gets. My sister and her husband's pizza was good. And the niece liked her grilled cheese. So we were hoping to have a great dinner last night but unfortunately we received far from it. And for them to not satisfy their customer by removing the food that wasn't enjoyed due to it being made improperly, the two items should have been removed, no questions asked. If you don't let the staff know how bad the food was, how will they know to change it. Unfortunately to say, of we go back, it will be for their pizza, but that doesn't look likely with the parents. Awesome pizza, had the small thin crust meat lovers and it was more than enough for two people to split. Started with the fried ravioli which was very good as well. Not too heavy on the breading and the meat and spinach filling complimented each other well. We had a group of 8 and normally they only allow 3 checks but our sever took care of us since every 2 people split pizza and an app. Our server was great and was on top of everything. Felt like a throw back with the old school decor of paneling throughout. A north shore tradition since 1968 the service and food was very good. Our visit was unfortunately for just a quick lunch so we just had a couple of thin crust pies and wings. The wings were not overly spicy but had a good flavor nonetheless. From what I remember it was either buffalo or spicy bbq so not a lot of options. Keep it simple - I like it. We then had a large meat lovers and small buffalo chicken pizza - both thin. The meat lovers was loaded with strip steak, pepperoni, sausage and bacon. It was excellent. I now give The Silo 2 stars since Dave T. decided to come harder than his flaccid culinary creations. I never received an alert that there was a response and I haven't thought about the Silo since I wrote that review 6+ months ago. But this response deserves a reply. I pray I don't let Dave T. down and entertain, as well as, inform and clarify. I'm unclear of Dave T.'s affiliation with "The Silo", but I can understand the condescending character attack masked with an attempt at humor. Although, I personally think Dave T. took the wrong approach with his post, I completely get it. I would implore you though, as a business owner, to understand that your assumptions damage your capacity to relate to others. If someone were to point out all of my flaws concerning something I cared about (just enough not to change), I would get defensive and make assumptions from a profile picture too. I might even suggest clinical help from an unlicensed clinical psychologist. I believe we would all be hard-pressed to find someone who enjoys being put corner with a mirror in their face with the blinding glow of a Yelp review shining down on them like an existential nightmare. I did wish in the cockles of my heart that Dave T.'s reply would have taken "ownership" over my review and followed basic business owner SOP's to actually rectify the situation. Instead, he pointed out that there must be something amiss with me. I don't watch a lot of Dr. Phil, but I'm pretty sure Dave T. is gaslighting me, or at the very least blameshifting. In either case, it might be the single most unattractive trait from a business owner. Oh, and in my defense, YES Dave T., people do get that angry over canned pineapple. It's called standards and expectations Dave. That's the only thing going on here. I'm not an angry, angry man either Dave. Just ask around, I'm a fucking delight! But, in your mind, I must have a screw loose if I point out that canned foods should remain in a fallout shelter, not on a $30 pizza. Sorry for being such a whack job Dave and not appreciating the fine culinary style of "Can to Table". I would enjoy the company of my inlaws at a soup kitchen, at least... never mind, the joke's too easy. If my loved ones are happy, I'm happy Dave. Me liking your food and enjoying time spent with loved ones isn't exclusive. I know, a mind-blowing concept. Also, I don't whine, I do exaggerated exhales to emphasize my distaste for dry pinwheel ham roll-ups. You are correct on one point. I do make snarky comments as soon as I get to the car. If you're curious what I say, just refresh yourself with my first review. One more clarification. If you think you can get out of The Silo in an hour with a group of 4 adults and 4 kids, you should spend more time on the floor. That all said, I was expecting a response like this back from you. I was told that this is how you approach confrontation. We all respond differently when the heat is turned up and the sun is on our face. I put on sunglasses and suntan lotion, you obviously blame everyone else for the sun existing. In closing, the next bad review you receive I would approach it as If your business depended on customers. Possibly put your Silo hubris aside and apologize for the experience. Maybe ask questions and offer an invitation to come back to your restaurant and see if you can make it right. Attacking a customer's credibility, integrity, and mental state is always a bad approach. Wow! I traveled a long distance to try this pizza for my friends birthday and yall... it ... was... FIRE! The sauce is uniquely sweet, light, and makes you want more and more... The crust is just the same! If you go, please try BOTH thin and deep dish pizza. I have actually been here many times since the early 2000s. Yesterday, it was nice to be back for the first time since the pandemic started! Reasonable prices, fun vibe, and chill place to hang out with friends on a weekend or even weekday night! Would recommend, especially for students to destress. Service is usually consistent and reliable. This is a go-to place for all things comfort food, though some dishes are definitely better than others. I like all things veg on pizza, so favorites are the Frisco and the Veggie Souffle. The mac and cheese is a winner too. Ah, good ol Silos. This place has been around even before I was born. I've had my moments where the food wasn't the best but that was a long, long time ago. Recently, I've started to come here more often and dang!! The pizza here is damn delicious!! My family love the thin crust supreme pizza and my boyfriend and I love the bacon Mac and cheese pizza, extra crispy. Honestly, the toppings are always fresh, cheese is gooey and it's just all around melt in your mouth gooey goodness. I haven't tried much of the other food on the menu as the supreme pizza and bacon Mac and cheese pizza are our staples. A lot of the time, this place is busy during dinner time and I can understand why. I look forward to trying more food from this extensive menu and if it's just as good as their pizza is, I can assure you all I will be back. read more

Not sure why the hype or overly good reviews at this place. My family found the food to be average best and overpriced for what it was. We ordered both pizza, sandwiches, chili and some sides. The pizza was greasy and salty, the burger was fine, the chili was inedible and they threw it away, the fries tasted like bad dishwater and the mushrooms were decent. To have spent around $100 on food, it should have been a lot better. You can get sub-par greasy pizza or a mediocre burger from anywhere and not at premium prices. Chicago's best has questionable taste if it's not bought by the restaurant for the endorsement. If this is the best of lake county it's sort of sad. "Pizza, trains and audible fart" is the theme of my review for the Silo. But wow, the sausage pizza here, YUM! On our first visit here for dinner on a busy Saturday night, snd we were seated right away. I ordered a Bacardi and Diet coke and our table was given large water glasses along with our drink orders. Our only food orders were a pizza, salad, mozzarella sticks, and a patty melt. When it was nearly a half-hour wait for the pizza, our server shared they accidentally had it sitting in a box with the "to go" orders. It all worked out as we decided to get our remaining food to go. One of the best, Itslian sausage pizzas I've ever tasted in the Chicago area, and I've grown up on sausage pizza. (I will order sausage on my pizza every place I get to try). We were seated near the running train room - pretty cool to watch. This place is legit and reminds me of local family pizza places from my childhood, like Shakey's Pizza in Schaumburg. (Yes, I'm that old. You probably are too if you remember this spot. HA)! Except for the pizza glich (and the man sitting at the table next to us who farted REALLY LOUD. Who does that?) It was a nice experience and our server Camille was sweet and hard working.
