    Seafood ramen
    Ryan W.

2.5 stars but not quite 3. Maybe if we make it there again. From what I read of past reviews, I was expecting great food, decent prices and "don't miss trying the ramen." I agree with at least one of those points! First, my son (12) had the seafood ramen and he loved it. He had never tried octopus before. I'm really proud of how adventurous he is - I'd have never tried octopus at his age. I ordered the sushi bento. Although, I think the price was what I'd expect to pay in Toronto, maybe even on the higher end for such a restaurant, at least the portions were decent. The bento came with salad, miso soup, some veggie tempura and even two dumplings. What it didn't come with was soy sauce and wasabi. Kind of weird, right? I asked, and the waitress replied: "we don't usually give wasabi with bento boxes." Well, I always eat sushi with soy sauce and wasabi, even it if comes in a bento. Is that wrong? I laughed. She said, "Okay, I guess I can give it to you." I laughed again like maybe she was pulling my chain - but she wasn't. Okay..,whatever! The fish was, small. But it wasn't bad. It also was not as good as quite a few T.O. locations I visit frequently and where I pay less. So, I really can't understand why so many reviews from students mention the great value. It's on the pricey side for sure. You're not paying for atmosphere - I'll tell you that! Basically a hole in the wall where they serve sushi. Okay, then came my wife's bulgogi bento box. Wait for this...Back story: She's ethnic Korean and we both lived in Seoul for nearly a decade. Buligogi is a Korean dish and probably one of our shared faves of all time. We know our bulgogi and this was definitely way undercooked. It looked almost like "yuk hoe" (Korean raw beef - which is a delicacy, but one that neither of us love.) My wife said it was also extremely salty. I took her word for it because I didn't want to try it. So, my wife told the waitress, who took it pretty well. She came back a moment later to say we could replace it with some other kind of stir fry. Great. And let me say that the salmon teriyaki was much better. Where it gets weird, for the second time, is when the old Korean lady ("ajuma") comes out to ask us about the bulgogi. Not sure whether she was the owner or just worked there. Anyhow. She insisted the salt was in the marinade and that she didn't add any. Alright, we accept your apology. I mean, wait there was no apology. Should we apologize for tasting salt? LOL. But look, it's also barely cooked, we pointed out. Then...THEN...she takes out a plastic glove...yes! She slips it onto her left hand and proceeds to scoop the raw bulgogi from my wife's plate and on to a small one she brought with her. I don't know. I lived in Korea for a decade and can't recall seeing what before. What?!?! Did she think we might bring it home and cook it??? Hahaha. That's it. The other thing I'd say is that the staff were super kind and very responsive. My less than great review is due to the mediocre experience we had with some of the food along with the $90 with tip price tag to feed two adults and a child. Yes, it's normal. We eat out enough to know that.. But we live in Toronto and just came from a trip to Montreal. I think we could have had similar quality food for $40 at a supermarket. Every meal we had in Montreal was better - so, we left talking about how much we already missed the food from Montreal. End of story. Go for the ramen. Definitely.

Small Korean-owned Japanese restaurant in Kingston (Princess/King). They're one of the few places that opens late (11:30am-11pm); closed on Mondays. This a la carte Japanese serves great quality food at a good speed with good service. Design inside is nicely done, simple and traditional. Bathrooms are the stairs by the entrance. They serve do serve alcohol and here's a quick glance: Pop ~ $1.50 Sake (Hakutsuru) ~ Sm (120ml) $7/ Lg (300ml) $12 Other sake ~ $12-25 Soju ~ $18-20 Beer ~ $4-7 Draught Beer ~ $7-18 (pitcher) Wine Bottles ~ $25-40 House Wine ~ $4.50-25 (glass to bottle) What stands out for me is that they have a bigger selection on rolls than most Japanese restaurant. Check out their website online http://www.kingstonsushihouse.ca/ If you order items where miso soup and salad is included, beware the salad dressing may be a bit more sour than you think. I ordered the following (photos uploaded): Beef teriyaki w/ rice - Good beef, good portion and temperature Chirashi - ($18) Good quality sashimi and presentation Sushi & Sashimi Dinner Combo - (12 pcs @ $17) Good quality sashimi, thick cuts and nice presentation on China plates (not plastic) Bar Sashimi Dinner Combo - (18 pcs @ $20) (12 pcs @ $17) Good quality sashimi, thick cuts and nice presentation on China plates (not plastic) Flying Dragon Da Roll - Dynamite roll, spicy scallop torched on top. They were bigger in size than normal, not too spicy. I did expect more torched burnt flavour than what I got. The scallops were mixed with tempura bits so I didn't taste them quite as much but still very good and filling. They served some berries with chocolate drizzle as dessert. Overall, lovely place with good food. I would come back. I'm surprised Kingston would have this. Do check them out :) They have karoke upstairs too.

To be honest, I'm usually the person to sacrifice quality for quantity and go to AYCE places. However, I can confidently say that while I will still cop out at AYCE places, I'm definitely going to be returning to Sushibar Da. Make sure to check out the chef specials, which are written on chalkboards around the restaurant. These items aren't included on the menu that is available online but they are definitely worth trying! i.e. the Hwe Dup Bop pictured below! The meal was $15 and included the hwe dup bop, a miso soup, a side salad, a bowl of rice, and unlimited tea, and the hwe dup bop itself had a generous amount and variety of lightly seasoned sashimi. Great value for such a reasonable price!

TL: DR - Huge portions for a low price, Sushi Bar Da is a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Kingston. I heard that I could get a bento lunch box for $12 on a weekday and I had to find out if it was true, and more importantly if it was any good. When I got to Sushi Bar Da, there were prop meals sitting in the window so you could see some of the dishes you could order. I entered and sat at the booth closest to the window. I ordered the pork tonkatsu bento lunch special, it was $12 and included a salad and a miso soup. The salad was served first and was made up of thinly sliced beets, carrots, cucumber and spring mix. The dressing was sweet and was the perfect amount for the salad. The miso soup was served next and was as good as always. The bento box came next, and holy it was a lot of food, I was getting my money's worth. The bento box pictured below included some white rice, edamame beans, side salad, tempura, spicy tuna rolls, and pork tonkatsu. The tuna rolls nothing special, and I wished that the tonkatsu sauce came on the side of the tonkatsu instead of on top. The best part by far of this bento was the tempura, and the unusual addition of broccoli tempura was delicious. Though there was a lot of food I cleaned my plate entirely and loved every second of it. This place was both affordable and delicious, Sushi Bar Da more like Sushi Bar Ya! Sushi B (lunch special)

I've been there 3 days in a row. Day 1: I shared a lunch special with one person. It came to a total of 11,30$, which is an amazing price! It comes with a soup and a salad. We had the dynamite sushi and the spicy salmon maki. It was fantastic!! So many flavours and textures! Day 2: I shared another lunch special; Same price. It was still delicious!! This time, we had sushi B (sashimi and spicy salmon maki). All the flavours where there and the crunchiness was perfect! Day 3: since yesterday's sushi B was so amazing, we decided to get it again. Today, the seaweed was damp and the crunchiness in the spicy salmon maki was nowhere to be found. We got 2 soups, but no salad. We were greatly disappointed. When we told the waitress about it, she said that it's probably because of the rain, but it is highly unlikely that the rain damped the food in a few minutes. Since it has disappointed us once, it has probably happened before as well and it will probably happen again. Hence, we shall not return, but those first 2 days will not be forgotten.

Super expensive and doesn't worth your money! We ordered sushi take out but there's no soy sauce in the bag! The waiter had lots of attitude, don't know why.... and for Hwe Dup bop, there's no hot sauce in the box!! I'm eating raw fish and salad without any dressing! Also the food portion was really small. It's much less than an adult's meal! Worst dining experience in Kingston!

I would 100 recommend swinging by during their lunch specials (which go till 5:30!!) because you will get a disgusting amount of great food for 10 bucks. My 5 stars are for their lunch times, as dinner is pricier and I can't be bothered to mission all the way down the far end of princess street cause my broke ass can't afford to uber thru the Kingston tundra. I came for dinner once and ordered the chicken katsu dinner special which came with their miso soup and house salad. It was fine, but wasn't too diverse since I straight up got a fried steak and white rice. If you're there for dinner, toss in another 2 bucks and splurge on a bento. It was one of those times where you ordered the wrong thing and you're just like "you katsu be kidding me!!"

Shrimp sushi! Great presentation, delicious smoky flavour!

Went here for Ramen and it was absolutely delicious! The potions were huge, very fresh with tons of healthy ingredients. We also tried one piece of the shrimp sushi, it had a great smoky flavour and it was very good! Will be back for sure!

My favourite sushi spot to visit while in Kingston. Great vegan options and wonderful service. Everything tastes very fresh.

Lunch specials! Portions were huge and honestly the food was pretty decent. We were in a rush so I didn't get to try most of my food but what I did have was quite good. Miso soup had too much soy sauce in it but it was edible.

Even the bathrooms were nicely appointed. The staff were also very friendly. For food, I ordered off the Chinese menu and my wife ordered off the Japanese menu. My parents also ordered off the Chinese menu. I picked the "Sweet Crispy Chicken" which was supposed to be crispy chicken with fried noodles on top. I assumed it would come with some fruit (pineapple or cherries) or vegetable (peppers, carrots, peas, etc.) on the side. Nope, it was literally A LOT of pre-frozen deep fried chicken pieces (like what is part of sweet and sour chicken) with what I think was straight honey poured on top. That's it. It was sweet and greasy but nothing else. When I asked about the noodles, I was told that the kitchen doesn't do that anymore. It was a one-dimensional dish and extremely disappointing. A bowl of white rice came with it, and the rice wasn't cooked properly. That is a shame for an Asian restaurant. We were not offered any hot tea or fried noodles in a bowl either when we entered. Just about every Chinese restaurant I have ever been to has noodles, and most Asian restaurants offer tea. Again disappointing. My wife seemed to enjoy her sushi, and my parents both enjoyed their dishes, so I guess I just pulled the short straw. A picture menu, or an accurate menu description, would have gone a long way to helping me avoid this in the future.

This one has like 15 vegetarian dishes; I actually can't eat all of them in one sitting and I eat a lot. The all-you-can-eat is a great deal if you're a big eater; I have never ordered off the menu. They also have a good deal on their very tasty Shirley Temples (drinks). That said, the mixed reviews on here also make sense to me: the food sometimes varies between cooks/depending on the day, and definitely varies between dishes. Their maki (sushi) is generally not the highest quality, but their vegetable/ pineapple fried rice is probably the best I've had, and I always get their fried banana, avocado salad, and edamame, as well as their tempura (though occasionally it's too greasy). It's a bit like the Mandarin, where you just learn to avoid a few things when you go. Occasionally you get something not great (in which case, they do seem pretty lenient with you leaving only a couple bites of something on your plate...which you can also slowly divide between your other empty plates so they don't care about the leftovers if you get something bad :P ) They have a great tablet ordering system so you can order several times while eating (esp great for those with social anxiety), and staff are generally polite when you do interact with them. Cute koi pond at the entrance too. Lunch is cheaper so I always go for that. This is the restaurant I eat at the most often in Kingston since I'm a vegetarian who eats a lot - definitely recommended :)
