We were visiting NYC from California. My son's shoes got ruined in the snow and he needed new shoes. This place was downstairs from the building we were staying in, so it was convenient. While the area on vacation my daughter found herself in need of new shoes. We happened to be near The Shoe Tree at the time and went in for a pair of shoes that would be comfortable for her to walk in. The staff member who assisted us was very helpful in measuring her feet to determine the correct size, check (and re-check) the stock as she saw various items that pleased her, and helped her settle on the most suitable pair and adjust the laces/fit. He even helped her with Band-aids to help mend the damage done by the previous shoes. Definitely a shop staffed with helpful and caring individuals. read more

After poor experiences at Lester's and Little Eric in my neighborhood (UES). I finally made the trek to the UWS with my 3 year old. SO worth it. Tony & Essam were kind, patient and did a great job finding shoes that were best for my daughter's narrow feet. My daughter got stickers and a caricature on her shopping bag and was delighted! I went in with my daughter right before they closed for rain boots for her and my son. I told the gentleman my kids sizes and he brought a selection for us to choose from. I came here because I really needed a new pair of flats. I looked up shoe stores on Yelp and this perfect rating store caught my eye. I came in and as I walked in, I realized I could be in the wrong place. All I could see were kids' shoes. Despite that, I still told the sales lady what I wanted since she approached me asking if I needed help. She was really nice and listened to what kind of shoes I am looking for. When she couldn't really help me find anything, she asked help from her boss. Her boss was also really nice and asked specifically when I was looking for. Then I asked them if their specialty is for kids' shoes. She said yes but they also carry some women sizes just because. Even though I didn't find what I was looking for, I still had a pleasant experience with its employees. I highly recommend it if you are buying shoes for small children. read more

Still amazing!! We've moved far away to Brooklyn and after a really poor experience at our local shoe store, we trekked back to the UWS for the Shoe Tree experience. The folks here are toddler whisperers and managed to get our full-of-beans two-year old to sit still long enough to get measured and try on various pairs of shoes. We picked up a couple of pairs of sneakers and a great pair of rain boots that our little guy can manage to put on/take off himself -- really great for pre-school! P.S. Our son's favorite color is pink. At our local Brooklyn shoe store, they mis-sized his shoes, but also wouldn't let our child try on "girl" shoes even when we asked to see them. At Shoe Tree, they could not have been more inclusive and friendly about our kid's love of pink and gave us a cornucopia of options! Love that! read more

What a wonderful place. I had so been looking forward to coming here once my child was ready for shoes, since I've read it's important to not only get quality shoes as children learn to walk, but to make sure, too, that you're getting the right size and type of shoe. Well, the day finally came and my high expectations were exceeded. We got excellent advice and two beautiful pairs of shoes. They have a big selection of seemingly only high-quality shoes, and I was so happy to be able to provide that for my little one. Last but not least, the customer service is impeccable and they have quality gifts (socks, mittens, etc.) for all the other kiddos in your life. After an unpleasant experience at Harry's (for my wife) I couldn't imagine taking Little W (all of 13 months) there. Wandered up to The Shoe Tree last Saturday and were met with a narrow little store with boxes piled everywhere. And two people who obviously know shoes and obviously know how to deal with children. Little W was immediately at ease (Tony is a *gem*), got his feet measured and we were presented with two snow boot options to fit his feet. And, since the boy was in such a good mood, we picked up some everyday shoes as well. Same scenario. Two great choices. We made our pick, paid and walked (literally) away happy. A wonderful little shop a few blocks south of Columbia University. My son had chubby little feet when he first walked and after having a bad experience with a shoe store a little further downtown, I was thrilled to find The Shoe Tree. They didn't tell me that the shoe fit when it didn't! The owner of The Shoe Tree and his staff are super friendly and not the least bit pushy. My son always goes straight to the basket of books and sits and "reads" as I look at the different styles and they measure his feet. Some of the brands we've purchased/noticed: Stride Rite, Umi, Geox, Skechers, Naturalino, Vincent. Sandals, Sneakers, Shoes, Water Shoes for the sprinklers and Snow Boots, we've gotten them all at The Shoe Tree. Don't let me forget about socks - dress socks, crew socks, fun construction vehicle socks and my cold weather favorites - SmartWool socks. It's been a few years now since our first visit and we've yet to find a reason to go anywhere else. We live way up at the tippy top of Manhattan and it's worth the trek. Although, with a son, we haven't found a need to buy them (lol!), I've noticed they have really cute little barrettes for girls' hair as well as the little sparkly type shoes. read more

Great quality shoes and service. Let me give an example. We bought two pairs of open-toed sandals for our 4y/o prior to a March vacation in Florida. One pair we started using straight away, the "nicer" pair we decided to save for the summer. Come June we try on the "nice" pair and due to a massive growth spurt, they no longer fit our son. So, we look for the receipt (which we can't find) and decide to give them a call to see if they'll exchange the shoes for some bigger ones. Although it was way past their normal exchange period, (and without the original receipt - they quickly found the original transaction in their records) they listened to our tale of woe & exchanged the unworn pair for some bigger sandals. This is what shopping should be like, but so often you strike unhelpful employees, stupid rules and responses like "the computer won't let me do it". End result? We'll buy ALL of our son's shoes here - several pairs per year - as long as we remain on the UWS. read more

I have been buying my sons shoes here since his first pair of shoes, which oddly enough wasn't till his first birthday. He has always had very wide, chubby feet. I had a horrible experience at stride rite where a boy that couldnt have been more than a teenager tried cramming my sons foot into a too tight shoe. My son was hysterical. Ok, so someone at wiggles & giggles recommended show tree and I have never looked back. The owner of this shop and all of his employees are GREAT let me repeat GREAT with kids. After much debate whether to visit a local shoe store, I finally took the plunge and took a trip to "The Shoe Tree" on 112th and Broadway. I have read not so favorable reviews from parents, of other children's stores. If you're looking for knowledgeable, friendly, patient service with a large variety of brands of kids shoes/sneakers then I highly recommend The Shoe Tree. My son was not a happy camper while in the store and the friendly sales people (Isham and Tony) help me calm him down with stickers, toys and books. They also have adult shoes and provided my husband with information about his size, shoe brand that is right for him and width. My only wish is that they were located closer and I had gone to them sooner. From now on I'll be buying my son's shoes at The Shoe Tree. read more

The Shoe Tree is a place that should be promoted, and I hope they never go out of business. The customer service is amazing, and my twin girls are not easy to please. They ended up with 3 pairs of shoes each (casual, sparkly, and winter) and the entire experience (getting them fitted, choosing different colors/sizes/models, entertaining/distracting them, testing the shoes) was done lovingly and with ease by obvious experts. Great for grown-ups! I learned on Yelp that the store, which is adorable and in my neighborhood, carries some things in ladies' sizes (men's too). I found the perfect sandals, there, after looking all over. Stylish, comfortable, but without looking like you're wearing them for comfort. The kids' shoes I always wanted when I was still buying shoes for mine, only the old places didn't have them in my size! After a couple of bad experience with Harry's Shoes, I decided to try this place out. It is a slightly smaller place but the people are so friendly and make an effort to get you the right size of your choice. In Harry's Shoes the salespeople are barely interested, they will bring 1-2 pairs and expect you to decide, and are eager to move onto the next customer. Here the salespeople brought several pairs and really wanted a satisfied customer. They didn't mind bringing more pairs and we left with one that we really liked. So so friendly, after Tip Top Shoes and Harry's Shoes I was pleasantly surprised that lo and behold good customer service in kids shoe store does exist in Manhattan. I highly recommend this store.
