Nice store! Great service from folks who really know about walking and gait. Let's just say my foot structure is " not exactly ideal". This place " gets it" and I emerge with comfy, quality, classy, fashionable footwear. read more

This is an amazing shoe store. I came in from out of town and bought sandals and went back for dress shoes. They have a wonderful selection but the best part is the knowledgeable staff who will work with you to figure out what fits and meets your needs. read more

I purchased shoes that were being advertised as "new" and ended up receiving dirty shoes with stains. I had paid almost $12 for shipping... when I sent back these shoes, they did not refund me for the shipping. So I lost that money because these people think it's okay to sell dirty shoes! I will never buy from them again and I do not recommend purchasing from these crooks! read more

I was visiting the Upper West Side after getting orthotics for my athletic shoes. I needed a pair of walking shoes. My husband (posting this) had been to Tip Top Shoes decades ago. When we walked in, they immediately directed us to Melvyn, who was a dream shoe expert come true. He was patient and so well-informed. He taught me to double-tap my heels into the backs of the shoes. I walked out with shoes I've worn almost every day since. All around us were other satisfied customers! read more

Great old fashioned shoe store experience. Friendly service and a good selection. There's a reason they've been in business so long!

I bought a pair of Hartjes sandals for $197.98 in May, right before I left for a vacation in Europe. I love the shoes, however, the dye from the ankle strap bleeds into my foot and I have to take a nail brush to get the color off my ankles. These Sandals were NOT CHEAP and I certainly do not expect to have dye coming off. I bought the shoes in Tip Toe Shoes , 155 W72nd Street NY NY 10023. These sandals were popular and one of my friends has three pairs of them and the dye on all of her shoes is fine. We are all very good customers of the store. The Manager of the store was not helpful at all, and told me I should have brought them back within two weeks, which is all very well but I was out of the country. He offered to send the shoes back to the manufacturers in Europe but said it could take months.........I mean come on...... The gentleman salesman I bought the shoes from was delightful but the Manager is another story. I will never shop there again and neither will my friends, we all bought several pairs of sandals this summer so spent quite a lot of money in the store. read more

Aggressive, not interested if you are investigating, shoes..Pushy and not terribly interested only if you are ready to buy. Greet you at the door, only to sell. I am a buyer of shoes and if I do not have to go there,I will not. This is about the women sales people. At register very helpful. read more

Bad joke alert. Since 1940, they've been, well, Tip Top! Still with me? They offer the most comfortable shoes on the planet, many of which are also stylish. From Clarks and higher end brands, their selection is the best, and their service is impeccable. I haven't been in years and many of the same salespeople are still there! For men, women and children, they offer shoes for all occasions. Price wise, their shoes are worth it and you absolutely get what you pay for. Shoes I've bought in the past from Tip Top have lasted for YEARs. If you're willing to pay a little more for shoes that are like spas on your feet, and look good, this is your place. They're also online and offer an in store and online rewards program. read more

I love Tip Top Shoes! A visit to NYC isn't complete without stopping in to see my favorite shoe salesman, Harold. The store has a fabulous selection for both men and women--Ara is my personal favorite. What really makes Tip Top special is the people. The atmosphere is always fun and welcoming, making it more than just a shopping trip--it's a full experience. Shoutout to Zee, who keeps everything running smoothly. Can't wait for my next visit! read more

I bought a lovely pair of sandals here but when I wore them, they dug into the soles of my feet. I knew they didn't take returns once they had been worn, but I called and explained that I had only worn them outside for about 15 minutes. He said bring them in. I did. Lester took one look at them and said "Of course we'll take these back!" They really were in almost new condition. Then he helped me find the most comfortable sandals I've ever had. This store is amazing, customer service is off the charts and the selection is huge. No wonder they've been around so long. I highly recommend them. Thank you, Lester! read more

Tip Top Shoes has really amazing costumer service. I have brought each of my kids to their Kids location (2 doors down) for their first shoes. The staff are so knowledgeable and patient. We went this week to get my oldest measured properly and get new shoes for school. Even with the influx of students and parents arriving days before school starts we received prompt and attentive service. We will continue to trek in from Jersey City and pass the word to all our friends. read more

A few years ago, I purchased a pair of Champion closed toed "fisherman style" sandals. They were not super pricey and over time they began to break so I started looking for a new pair. Target no longer carried them, Champion no longer manufactured them and so I headed off to Dick's Sporting Goods to find something similar. No dice (not in store anyhow). I went to three local malls and not one had anything close to what I was looking for. The closest Macy's to me looks like a hurricane hit it after a bull ran through the shoe section. I kind of gave up and figured at some point I'd go online to see what I could find. While hanging out in the Upper West Side one day I came across Tip Top Shoes and I figured maybe they'd have something I was looking for. And I was right! Service was fantastic. A salesman came up to me and was friendly, boisterous and knowledgable. I wound up getting a pair of Keen Men's Newport H2's. The price was average, but hey, this is a mom and pop business and I was happy to support it. I'd be happy to return to this shop any time and I recommend it to anyone in the area! read more

I recently made an online purchase from this store and was incorrectly charged sales tax for the sneakers. Sales tax follows the state of delivery, not the state of origination. I sent three separate emails stating this and was completely ignored. I'm reporting this business to the NYC Department of Finance as I feel this is intentional tax fraud. read more

hi, I wanted to leave a review for Melvin. I can't express how wonderful and helpful he was to me. And to everyone. He is so knowledgeable and so patient and really listens to you. I could not recommend this store more, many thanks to you Melvin. Will definitely be back. thank you! read more

Zee and Harold = Extraordinary Customer Service Stars Went in for shoes yesterday and it was swarming with people. Immediately, Harold found a place for me to sit and Zee started showing me all the different shoes to match the description of what I was looking for. Great service and wide selection of men's shoes from Tip Top Shoes on West 72nd Street. In fact, I switched to Tip Top Shoes from another nearby shoe store that I had decided to leave after many years. The reason for the switch was attitude and service. At Tip Top Shoes, my customer experience was excellent thanks to Dominique, who proved knowledgeable about the many lines of men's footwear and extremely professional in ensuring that my selections were appropriate to my arch needs and width concerns. I'm very pleased with my loafer purchase and will certainly become a repeat customer. read more

The best of the old and the new. The old: old fashioned customer service, family owned and you can tell. Each customer is greeted and treated as part of the family. The new: all the latest styles and brands. So many options. They have everything from sneakers to dress shoes. The best part is Melvin! This man knows his business, years of experience is very apparent after talking with him for just few minutes. He never made me feel rushed or that he was doing me a favor by waiting on me. I traveled from queens to the upper east side and I'm so glad I did. I highly recommend this store and Melvin. read more

Best shoe store EVER -- in NYC at least. Great variety, extremely friendly staff. An Upper West Side gem!

Yes, we have men's Vionic shoes, yes, we know which shoes are good for plantar fasciitis, the Tip Top employee told me on the phone. However, when I got there, the salesman told me they don't carry them any more. But I was just told this morning that you do, I said. Who told you that, he asked. I don't know her name, why would I know her name, I said. You should have asked her name, he said. No regret on his part! So, all of a sudden, the important thing in the saleman's mind was that I didn't ask the phone operator's name, not that their staff doesn't know what the store sells! Bye, bye, Tip Top. read more

I called the store before coming on !2/3/24. A man named Harold answered the phone. I asked is the Black Cyber sale of 20% apply in the store? He replied yes and stated come to me! I did and Harold was professional and personable. I only intended to purchase one pair but ended up with 2. Harold was never pushy and allowed me to decide. I never felt pressured which I don't like. He brought out shoes that were my style without asking. I feel there are not enough salespeople like Harold who enjoy their work and does it so well. I recommend you try to let Harold serve you! read more

This is one of the last retail stores in the country, let alone the city, that is properly staffed. No need to wander around looking for someone to help you; when you walk into this shop, you are promptly greeted by an employee who will grab all the shoes you'd like to try on, answer all your questions, and then ring you up. The selection is good, and the prices are fair, but even if they weren't I would still shop here because of the employees and full staffing who are actually able to do their jobs. read more

Went to Tip Top to get some good sandals for an upcoming trip. Well not only did I find a wonderful selection, but I met the most wonderful salesman, Harold. He was patient, understanding, funny, and warm. He helped my whole family, 3 generations, find shoes that worked. He thoroughly enjoys what he does, helping people! I was so overwhelmed by his sincerity and kindness, I flagged down the owner to give a compliment... I said 'how is it possible to get to heaven when you have to compete with people like Harold?' Go to Tip Top, ask for Harold, he'll make your day! read more

I have been to Tip Shop Shoes a handful of times. This shoe store really gives me old school vibes. All of the salespeople here are very friendly and helpful. They are also very knowledgeable about the different brands and styles of shoes and how they should fit. They carry a large variety of shoes and high quality brands. Additionally, they have a great sale rack. If you are on the Upper West Side, I recommend stopping into Tip Top Shoes because the service and footwear options are excellent! read more

the good: the selection was decent, pretty well varied. returns are super easy. one of the guy who worked there seemed really genuinely friendly (idk his name but he had cool skull-shaped hair rings) but unfortunately that wasn't who ended up helping us the bad: my boyfriend and i went looking for shoes for both of us and were "helped" by two different people, both of whom were pretty brusque, seemed in a rush, and clearly didnt care about anything but making a sale. it's been awhile since i've bought shoes from an unfamiliar brand and i wasn't super sure of what to expect sizing-wise, particularly of the dr martens i was trying out for the first time. i tried out a couple of shoes from different brands, and in both cases they clearly didn't fit at all, although i didnt realize it at the time bc the salesman was persuasive. my heel kept slipping in both of them, and he just told me i needed to tie the laces super tight and then with enough wear they'd conform to my feet and not to worry about it. when i asked him how sturdy dr martens are and how long they last, he said i'd be "wearing them in my 80s" (i'm in my 30s, so that's what, 50 years) i was feeling pretty pressured and a bit suspicious but i really wanted the shoes to work, so i bought one pair and left the other. figured if it turned out the salesman was spinning me a yarn i'd return the first pair and have dodged a bullet with the second. an excellent decision, as it turned out. when i got home, i did my research and realized that neither pair fit, you're not supposed to tie your laces super tight and breaking them in isnt going to sort out dramatic heel slippage-- maybe just a tiny bit, but definitely not what i was dealing with. i ended up returning the dr martens (no issues there) and discovering that there's an actual dr martens store in herald square, so i decided to give that a shot in case different models were sized differently. i'm between sizes so i'd sized up at Tip Top (the size down was impossible to fit my foot into) but i figured it just wasn't meant to be with that model. but at the dr martens store the sales clerk told me that typically if you're between sizes you just wear an insole. she put one into the shoes for me, let me try them out with the insole, and it was massively better! anyway i'll be avoiding Tip Top in future unless i catch word of a sales associate who isn't trying to screw you out of a bunch of cash and/or send you to a physical therapist. read more

Perfect place to get the best walking shoes. I recently booked a vacation and needed some water shoes plus I wanted the five finger toe shoes by virbram (might have spelled this wrong) they had both of the shoes I needed and the customer service is so nice and friendly. The toe shoes run a bit small and they exchanged them for me with zero hassle. The store was quite crowded but they still gave me amazing service. They are east to find (two blocks west from Central Park) I'll be back for the other walking shoes I saw while there. Living in nyc you need them. read more

Your response to this place is really a matter of personal style. I've found that the moment you walk in salespeople are swarming you. I expected them to start dueling last time I was here. And yet they are knowledgable (if only to sell you their shoes). You're not going to get any of the hipster crowd here, and the last time I saw anyone under forty in this place it was on Halloween to ask for treats. But if you're on the UWS and need a comfortable pair of shoes because you've been walking around in your monk strap dressers all day, I suppose you could do worse. read more

I've been multiple times and each time, Melvin was very rude. I won't be going back. The other workers are very nice though

My podiatrist told me to go to Tip Top shoe and get my feet measured by Harold. Harold is the best salesman, and understood that I needed a shoe with a roomy toe box. In the past 2 years I've bought 3 pairs of shoes there (2 are more like sneakers, 1 pair of slightly dressier boots). They are all comfortable, wear well, and my podiatrist couldn't be happier. They were about average price, and the quality is very good. Harold steered me towards the boots off season and I saved quite a bit buying them early. I miss buying shoes for style as well as comfort, but my feet are happier than they've ever been. After the holidays I'm. heading back to Tip Top for a pair of every day walking shoes. Highly recommended, and ask for Harold. read more

Great to have this independent local shoe shop but the customer service is lacking. I did an online order for pickup the gave me the wrong style. I emailed to ask about returning / exchanging, they said I could come in to do so but got no apology or offer for rectification. I went in person to exchange for the right style and was told the style I had ordered wasn't even in stock (why was I able to order it online then?) and again, no apology. The woman asked if I wore them and that was it. I got a refund minus the tax and had to spend time and money to get over there to return them. Dissatisfying overall.... read more

Good on sales, not so good on service. Which is not what you want from an independent shoe store. The sales part was a breeze. I had some Timberland walking shoes that were falling apart, and the salesperson recommended snazzy Eccos, promising I could beat the heck out of them, and they'd last. Plus, they had Gore-Tex technology for comfort and humidity wicking. They were not cheap -- north of $250, if I recall correctly to the late summer of 2020, but I bought them. Everything went smoothly, and I wore them out of the store, happy as an urban walker could be. All good for a time, but 15 months into moderate but not impossibly active use, I noted the interior of both shoes was wearing out behind the top of my heel. Right through the fabric. I have literally never seen that happen before, so on a recent trip to NYC, I brought them in to see what they could do. I've never seen three salespeople -- older guy, younger guy, younger woman -- deny ability to assist, or even offer sympathy, in my life. One even said that it was the way I was taking off my shoes. Lookit. I'm 65 years old. I've been wearing shoes a very long time. I've owned 250 pair in my lifetime, if not more. I have never seen this kind of wear pattern, ever, on the interior fabric behind the heel. And no, I have not developed Trumpian bone spurs. There's a problem in the shoe, and the best I got was a diffident, "You can always write to the company." How about, "That shouldn't happen." I'm going to have to take these shoes to a repair shop now and see if they can be patched. The salespeople didn't even take a photo to send to Ecco. Sad service. Do better, guys. read more
