The haddock was good - tasty & reasonably crispy even eaten 15 mins later as takeout. The chips had an authentic British crispiness, so they'd have been better when fresh. The shrimp was coconut shrimp rather than being normal battered shrimp (this isn't mentioned on the main menu, but elsewhere). It was decent, though the slightly spicy cocktail sauce did not really go with it. There was quite a bit of "shrimp" (i.e. reformed shrimp patty with a shrimp tail stuck in). Both dishes came with a small serving (sauce container) of coleslaw. It was decent - crisp & tasty, though a touch sharp.

I would have liked the fries to be hand cut. I think they were frozen but to each restaurant their own. The price was very reasonable for a halibut fish and chips. The service was amazing. The 2 waitress that served me were very fast and efficient. Which a 25% tip was deserving. The only down side was the decor and ambiance. The inside and furnishings were a bit on the old and used too much side. I would recommend they do some renovations to spruce the place up. I would also recommend all yelpers and patrons to try this spot as the halibut fish and chips are worth the visit and money. Side note: I didn't try any of the other fishes like cod and haddock so no comment on those.

Tip: There's a tip jar at the counter…read more A recent Yelp elite experience introduced me to The Big Catch in Newmarket. It recently opened a store in Markham, which I look forward to visiting. I have been to this plaza a few times over the years. I've been to the Tim Hortons a handful of times. I was at Mom's Pan-fried Buns a few months ago, which is a couple of businesses down from The Big Catch. This plaza has lots of parking. I pulled into a parking spot and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a friendly, efficient woman. I got halibut and chips as my main meal. I paid for a can of Diet Coke with a credit card. Tap. Done! I found a table. I caught up with some photos on my phone. It didn't take long for my food to arrive. I had to ask for my Diet Coke. She was running the entire fry-seating show, so I was patient. I finally got my drink. Yay! The halibut was a decent portion. I got a lot of fries. My meal came with a lemon slice and tartar sauce. There was also a bottle of ketchup on the table. I loved the halibut. The batter was light and crispy. The fish was flaky and yummy. I loved dunking my halibut in the tartar sauce that tasted homemade. The fries were good. Just too many of them for my liking. I dunked them in both ketchup and tartar sauce. My Diet Coke helped wash everything down. Thank goodness I got one. It was cold. I got a straw. The woman was great. She asked how my meal was while I was dining. It was a nice touch. I had to use the washroom twice. I came into the eatery after driving for 1.5 hours from Mississauga and downing a beverage. It's a single stall for everyone. It was clean, but dated. I used it again before I headed home. It's funny that I had washroom in mind when I got here that I completely forgot to grab some change to leave a tip. I went back to my car to get some, came back into the eatery, and let the woman know that I was back to give a tip. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I'd return again when I'm back in this plaza and have a craving for halibut. (373)

Got the chicken fingers for the kids with $4 extra for poutine. The poutine gravy was very salty though. Can't eat the whole thing. Small quaint place tucked away in a small plaza in a neighborhood side street with promises of offering traditional British fare. Pleanty of parking in the plaza. First thought inside was a tad dated but a cute neighborhood joint . Menu offered a number of British classics like mushy peas and meat pies.. but I came for the fish and chips. Cool thing you can choose you fish, halibut, haddock and Cod. I chose the combo meal with gave 2 big pieces of battered fish, chips and 2 sides and I chose the mushy peas and coleslaw (when in Rome lol). I thought the fish was done perfectly and chips were crispy on the outside and tender. I enjoyed it here, the price was reasonable I thought and our server was friendly. I would recommend this place if you are craving decent fish and chips.

Upgraded my side to their chowder and we got a side of mushy peas. I have absolutely no complaints because i think they do it right. Chips are fresh cut fries and the fish is battered well- not oily and super crispy. We got to chat with our waitress who told us they're pretty particular with the fish they bring into the store and after eating it i believe it. We also had some leftover to take home. I need to try the Orange roughy one of these days when they have it in, because it's not everyday you see that as an option. Would definitely recommend checking this place out!

I ordered 2 of their specials (Haddock and chips including a pop) for $12.50 + tax each. I was a little hesitant about the haddock being fishy? Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between this and halibut which is saying a lot about fish and chips. When my food was done, I saw the cook ( a lady ) and it was the same one from my previous visits a long time ago. Oh boy, I hope they don't change as the lady cook is a keeper! I know that this place was up for sale a while back and that is why I was hesitant to come here recently. But, after seeing that the cook is the same, I will be sure to make a few more visits and into my regular rotation of take out food. To all the yelpers out there.
