A new review, having returned here a year after our first visit. And a drop to three stars from my four star review last year.
Exact same issue of slow service leaving no time for deserts. But a few more niggles this time round. Such promise too.
Good parking, and fairly sprawling inside. Everything's neat and clean. Standard pub decor, but immaculately maintained. The type of place we wish we could eat at more.
Some lovely offerings on menu, a step above the norm it seems.
Now I tried the curry this time. This pub is all about the presentation, so boy it looked fancy, as did my wife's fish and chips. But you can't eat a curry in pots off a piece of wood, and my wife couldn't poke around for garden peas in the bottom of a little basket. So you start your meal scraping it out onto your plate. No real problem there though.
Like last time, we waited a long time before we had any food before us, and this in a pub just a third full. 35 minutes! They'll say it's good food if unhurried, and that can be true, but we've eaten at five five star places that are full and had fancier food out faster, and here we were on my wife's lunch hour.
My biggest irritation was my curry, delicious as it was at £6.99, came without any naan bread. Not even a token cut or slither. As my wife had ordered at the bar, she'd been asked if she wanted any for an unspecified extra charge. I wish I'd had some, but that all seemed very mean. Just pop an extra pound on the price, include it, and stop messing about.
Plus, we saw the landlord ask one table if they'd finished with their pot of ketchup, then just take it to some other diners. I don't like that, as you don't know if the little spoon has been contaminated.
So, like a year previously, we had no time for our fancied desserts due to the long wait for food arriving while the place wan't busy. Shame.
So want to like this lovely place. But will wait another year before seeing if they've pulled their socks up and started achieving the promise there. read more
