Horrible customer service!!! Ordered one small shade for almost $2,000 --The shades are still sitting on my living room floor after they were delivered 2 weeks ago. After waiting all day today for the installer to show up he cancelled last minute. Apparently that happens a lot. Still waiting for a reschedule date and spent hours on the phone to get one. No help. No call backs from anyone regarding a new installation date. Choosing shades and ordering was easy. Please do yourself a favor and pay attention to all of the terrible reviews. If you purchase blinds from the shade store you will be left frustrated and with a poor quality product. I purchased a new apartment and decided on shade store for our blinds--the store looked great, it was convenient and the salespeople were nice and helpful. All was well until the blinds were installed--the quality is SO cheap --wrinkled and poor quality. But that's not all! They were sewn badly and have holes. Yes holes. Multiple holes that are large--not pinpoints. So when the room is dark you can see light coming in. It's so bad. Customer service is completely not responsive. I've left messages and nothing--other than the stickers they sent to cover the holes. Honestly Amazon would do better. read more

A terrible experience. What happened to the Shade Store? I have used them for years, but this last order for 10 windows has been about the worst large home purchase I have ever made. They took months to be made, and the install in a NYC apartment, unbelievable! They send a link to sign up for installation with dates a month into the future. The first install day (there should only be one), the guys showed up AFTER the 2 hour window was over and could only install 2 windows since the building closes at 4pm (like most NYC buildings). One window's fabric has holes and the other was installed with incorrect alignment. Rather than an apology and reschedule call, I waited a week only to receive another "sign-up in a month" email. That time, the guys arrived AFTER the window by 30 minutes, the building had closed so they left with nothing installed. Same thing-- they are trying to get me to sign up a month later, but I would like my money returned. Be wise and go elsewhere for your windows! read more

The experience I've had so far with the store has been SO disappointing. I made an appointment with a design consultant who was super unhelpful throughout the entire appointment. She rolled her eyes at me when I asked about the cost of a particular shade -- EVEN THOUGH we already had someone come out and measure my windows. She could not even give me an "idea" of how much the project would cost. She told me it was complicated -- and that's fine, but she didn't bother to even explain why. When I asked about the estimated cost of just one window, and I gave the measurements TO her, she also could not tell me. The staff just seemed completely unengaged. Keep in mind that I was the only customer there for the appointment. When I asked about the rod options, she just pointed to the walls. That was it. Wow. I also never heard back from the person who was assigned my project. Not even since the measurements were taken at my home and submitted. As someone who is planning to spend $5K+ on shades, that customer experience was so much less than expected. She said she needed the day to give me a quote, and that I would hear back from her by the end. I haven't heard anything. It's just so unfortunate because I had really high standards for this store. Perhaps it was just the location, but I will likely take my money elsewhere. Shades and draperies are NOT cheap, and I expected so much better. read more

I just had black out linen shades installed in three bedrooms in the Hamptons by the Shade Store. I had tried two shade stores out here, neither showed any interest in setting up appt and/or showing me white linen samples. I went to the store on Madison Ave, selected the fabric, discussed what I had in mind and Danielle took over. The shades were perfectly installed by a young women and I couldn't be happier. TERRIBLE experience with the shade store. This review is not really about this exact location (although one of the women working there is pretty curt and condescending), but the ordering and installing experience as a whole. I ordered sheer drapes from my living room. The staff at the store were good in helping me select what I needed for the room, and the process went pretty well initially. Things got bad when my drapes were installed and were too wide for my window, leaving a lot of extra sheer fabric that blocks the light when the drapes are closed. At that point, the store is done with you and you are directed to their "Customer Care" service. I was initially told by the store that they would remake the drapes in the correct width. However, customer care told me that I ordered my drapes wrong, and that I could order new drapes at a 50% discount. I couldn't believe this! I just wanted my drapes fixed, and I absolutely did not want to spend another thousand dollars on new drapes because of the technician's measurement error. I had to explain myself and make my case to the costumer care people (the third time I've had to tell the Shade Store my story now), and they agreed to repair my drapes. Another technician was sent, the one who initially measured my window but different from the one who installed my drapes. He then asked me to specify how much fabric I wanted to remove. I explained to him that I just wanted the drapes to perfectly fit the window, with no extra fabric, but of course able to completely cover the window when the drapes were close. This wasn't ok though -- he wanted ME to tell HIM (the installer, the "expert") how to figure out how much fabric to remove for my desired appearance. I then told him how much I wanted to remove, and then the drapes were sent back for repair. I've received the "repaired" drapes, and now the width is too short! They cut too much and they do not cover my entire window. I see why they wanted me to tell them how much to cut now, so they do not have to be held accountable for any substandard results. I now have to contact customer care again, but given my previous experience with them, I am not too hopeful. In summary, I would absolutely NOT recommend the shade store and I will NOT use them again. Their showrooms and fabrics are nice, and their sales staff are knowledgeable, but the store has little to no interaction with the installers or the costumer care. It's a big company with many moving parts, and if anything goes wrong, well, good luck. No one takes accountability for the result of their product, and the customer is made to feel at fault if something goes wrong. After about 3 months, nearly $2000 spent for one room, and many phone calls and email exchanges later, I am now in the dead of winter and just getting my window treatments that do not cover my entire window. I'm really kicking myself for not going with one of the other more established New York window treatment companies that have great reviews. read more

The owner, Mr. Z.G. heard my loud yelp, and changed the whole story through this weekend: both staff from the shade store and M&N installment left messages to undo their neglects immediately, and even refunded the material cost to us! Simple apology with their date of fixing would have been enough..., now refunding was very unusual, and beyond our expectation! Here I am reversing our rating to 4 Stars, for we appreciate him for his concern for customers and quick response for business, and deserves to be cheered, perhaps with a better installment service. We, too, may be deserved: We, septuagenarians, giving up their help on 3/26, decided to use our own hands, husband standing at the top rung of a ladder, and wife standing on a Chair, on the top of our dining Table, like a circus couple, removed 5 clips, then the track. After cleaned, the track was stretched to one side an inch out of the bracket, narrowing the light-leaking. Then we attached the 5 panels to the track. Only, the last end panels were extended out of the track about half inch away each side, to cover up further the light leaking space. We calked neatly around, like an expert. Except the wrong sided fabric, which was beyond our power. Well, some aching on my arms upholding the track so long, but felt good to ourselves. Now, the room is set for our guests on Easter! My husband and I were so pleased with the exceptional service and help that we received from Susie Kerr at The Shade Store when we were shopping for new shades. Once we explained to Susie what we wanted to do she helped tremendously with the selection process by showing us the various options which would have been overwhelming to us. After getting a little overwhelmed with shopping for window treatments, I stopped into the Shade Store in August 2013, hoping I could just get some ideas. Lauren was incredibly helpful. She has a design background and was very smart and creative about figuring out how to deal with some of my windows, some of which have a terrible view but still can get some good light. She happily looked at photos I brought of our windows and gave me wonderful advice about hardware (poles, brackets), color, texture, and light, keeping in mind my budget, goals for my treatments, and the overall look of my apartment. Lauren gave me lots of samples, told me to take as much time as I needed, and helped me by making mock-ups of the treatments I was interested in on digital photos of my windows. I realized after working with Lauren and learning of the Shade Store's services and arrangements for measuring, installation, etc., that it would be worth any extra money I would need to spend to have design, installation, and advice all under one roof of a very reputable store. I must have visited the store five or six times with different questions and ideas before I finally decided on my treatments, and Lauren was very patient and understanding that window treatments are a big purchase, and she wanted me to be happy with my decision. The Shade Store arranged for an installer to measure and then install my treatments, and they guarantee satisfaction. Every apartment has some sloping and irregular measurements, so it was important to watch the installer and have him make adjustments on the spot -- he was patient and repositioned things a centimeter here and there as I asked, and my treatments look great. Lauren was so lovely and helpful, and the Shade Store was just terrific. I am so happy with my windows now! read more
