Paid in full for my order in November. Now it's May and I've had 2 incorrect measurements, 3 incorrect shades delivered, 5 technician visits, 2 PTO days. I was hopeful they finally got it right today, 6 months later. Only instead of the double cellular I paid for, it's single cellular. Which I had already pointed out to customer service. Guess I should be thankful they got the measurement right? Oh, and no refunds. So I'll wait another week for the customer service team to reply to my email. Run, dont walk. Unless you have lots of time to waste. read more

I placed an order for shades, which have never worked properly and remains unresolved. Since January when they arrived, the installer noticed it was not working properly and reordered the shade. At the third attempt, a different installer showed up and also acknowledged that it was not working properly. I was then told that it would not work properly because of the type of windows so I asked him to leave since he could not help. Apparently, if you let the installer leave without taking the shade it basically tricks you into categorizing it as finaI, even though everyone agreed it was not working properly. I explained each time to the sales person I ordered them from, Stacey Knight, and she agreed that it was unacceptable. In May she stated a post sales case will be filed. Then I never heard from anyone. When I called her back she seemed surprised, and then shortly after I received an email from Zachary Haase, Client Experience Manager. At this point it was called a tension device issue and parts needed to be swapped. There's no phone number to reach anyone except the sales person so I called Stacey again when I didn't hear from anyone again. She suggested a motorized option would solve the problem and offered to have the additional costs waived. She never followed up, and no one seems to think that collecting full payment and leaving me with a substandard product is their problem. The combined poor installation, manufacturing defects, long delays, and unhelpful customer service, with still no resolution makes me wonder how they're still in business. I regret ever contacting them and you will to. The difficulty with getting issues resolved, even after multiple service appointments, lack of communication, and the disconnect between sales, installers, and customer service appears to be intentional. Plan to be in an infinite loop with no way out when dealing with The Shade Store. read more

I got lured in by the gorgeous showroom and convenient location and was happy to pay more to guarantee quality and correct measurements - I got neither. I had to call a few times to get them to come back to remeasure and redo the blinds. When they were redone and reinstalled, the incorrect handles were used. I called once to have that fixed and then gave up. It's now been about six months and the slats are starting to warp (my house isn't damp). I feel had and will eventually replace them. read more

I absolutely loved my experience with the Shade Store, specifically Stacey Knight the consultant in Alexandria, VA and Nicholas the installer. The fabric of Harlem Toile by Sheila Bridges spoke to me and I was guided through a fun consultation at the Shade Store showroom, picked the bracket style and colors, and provided reasonable quotes. When it was installed, they were in and out in 30 minutes and took the original blinds with them! I'm fawning over the shades for my two dining room windows (literally have photos from every angle) and I thank the personnel at Shade Store for their service and quality of products! read more

RUN AWAY!!!!! Run away and don't let the slick stores and very welcoming design assistants distract you from the FACT that the quality of their products and, even worse, the customer service, are despicable, atrocious, and pathetic. I choose my words carefully and with direct intent. Having spent more than the price of a mid-sized car on automatic and wooden shades, I urge you to heed caution and run away like you are King Arthur at the castle (the Monty Python ones, not the other guys). So, here is the lay down.. 1. Everything came in 2-months late and then, only half my other arrived; the other half that arrived belonged to some other person. All of these laid in my garage for nearly 8-weeks (keeping us from parking in it) waiting on the company to get our order correct. 2. Upon getting our 'full' order (every window in a 3-level townhouse), about a third were all damaged or made improperly- confirmed by the installation guy; had to wait another +/- 2-months for replacements before they'd install anything. 3. The seven (7) automatic blinds all had to be replaced a 2nd time; 4 had just stopped working after +/- 6-months. 4. The app and the hub are good for nothing better than targets on a range. The hub will operate only on a 2.4ghz signal so if you have the 5.0 or higher, they won't connect and you have to redesign your home network to make them fit. Forget about tech support helping you through the process. 5. BTW, there is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT. Try to find one; please. You have to get connected thru the sales phone # and only then might you get a human who can actually help or walk you through a trouble-shoot. The fastest any repair/service human will make it to your home is 2-3 weeks. 6. We've already had to have people come in 5-times. When we finally did get technicians into the house, they did not bring repair kits, they 'forget' the 4-times I informed them they will need a ladder and never brought a ladder; took 4-shades of the 7 shades that cost over $700 each and left a stick-on paper cover as the temporary replacement. Do not expect whomever arrives to know anything more than what was written on the instructions your received with your order. Did I mention that all of this happened in less than 1-yr? I promise none of the above is exaggerated and that every note is true if not understated. This company has a facade of care and quality but it is only just that, a facade. Years of life have been taken due to stress and frustration I've not experienced with any other company. These experiences are not specific to any particular store; they are representative of this entire company and what it represents. The people in the showrooms are actually well intentioned, kind, and will listen; but, please do not let their kindness sway you from running away as far and as fast as you can. If you can afford it, the Shade Store is the business class of window treatments. I had roller blinds and track curtains installed in two large condo windows. Stacey Knight was fabulous to work with and was very patient as I figured out how the store can work on my unique condo ceilings. (If you have concrete ceilings, listen to the store and get them x-rayed or radared. I waited on this.) The Shade Store was a breath of fresh air over buying window treatments from a big box store, which I also did due to my budget. Part of those treatments were delayed and they would not update me when they would come. Then, I used two treatments for the first time and they broke. Tried to schedule the installer to come in 2 times and he never showed. You get what you pay for. In contrast to Shade Store who always communicated, showed up on time, and the installers were great. Stacey and The Shade Store are awesome!! Stacey started by educating us about window treatments overall (we knew basically nothing), listening to our goals / budget, then discussed style options, and gave us plenty of samples to test at home. She was great about making recommendations while still listening to our preferences, and was really detail oriented - which becomes pretty important when you're doing 15+ windows like we were. The only minor annoyance was that these huge boxes get shipped to your house about 2-3 weeks before install, so we got sick of having them in our dining room, but it wasn't a huge deal. Installation itself was very straightforward - the installer was professional / respectful and did a great job. Throughout the process, Stacey checked in with us proactively but never pushed us or pressured us. I have already placed a second order with Stacey, and when we need more window treatments, I will definitely be reaching back out to her. The Shade Store is not the cheapest option (I shopped around with 2 other vendors to compare - one low cost and one comparable cost), but it's not THAT much more expensive than the low cost options and the quality of product and service was clearly differentiated. read more

I think this store has great blinds but the follow-up from the reps is sorely lacking. I visited the store and got some good information from the rep. After leaving I immediately sent her the window measurements since she said she'd quote me for the shades and install. I never heard from her and emailed again asking for an in-home design consultation and still crickets. Guess I'm on to the next. read more

I worked with Teresa Knizner at The Shade Store in Alexandria, VA and she was amazing. I had brought a piece of the wallpaper from the half bath that had recently been redone with me. I needed a shade for the window and I had an idea of what might work. Teresa was able to help me pick the shade, fabric and color that we both agreed would look perfect. Installation was unbelievable - installer was here the shade was up in no time. The bathroom is finally finished and I could not be happier. It usually takes me forever to make up my mind on decorating decisions but with Teresa's professional help it was easy to see this was the right choice. Jocelyne W. at the St. Asaph location is an excellent designer who was so very helpful to me in choosing the fabric (and density) that was the best fit for our particular situation ... sending me home with lots of samples to test in different lighting. She also did a great job following-up with us at every step of the way, from choosing the best fabric and hardware for us ... to expectations for delivery and installation. I will say this, The Shade Store understands excellent customer service and does not disappoint. Great in-store designers and the installation team is well trained and professional. Recently I purchased shades for my sun room at the Shade Store in Alexandria. Because the sun pours into this room each morning, the heat produced made the room unusable for most of the day. The solar shades are wonderful and have made a huge difference. Though the initial estimate seemed high, I was swayed by the professionalism and knowledge of the salesperson, Stacy Knight. She, along with the person who came out to measure and the installer, were excellent. it was an altogether positive experience. read more

I wanted to love The Shade Store. They have beautiful designs and fabrics and are right in my neighborhood. I used their in-store designer, who was new and made several mistakes, but those were quickly corrected. For my newly-built townhouse, I ordered 20 roller shades and three sets of drapes. All high-end, to be installed by The Shade Store. Every single shade had to be re-made, some several times. To be fair, most of the mistakes were caught by the installer, and the store stood behind their products and remade the shades. But the only products that were right the first time were the drapes. How does this happen? They are literally The Shade Store, but could not get those right the first time. I had to take off multiple days from work to be here for the installs. In the end, while most of the shades were fine, there were a couple I just gave up on and said, "Good enough, I'm done." Sadly, I can not recommend The Shade Store. read more

I had a wonderful experience with The Shade Store. I'm from Brooklyn and was visiting Alexandria, VA, and there happened to be a Shade Store on my sightseeing route. I had already contacted the Brooklyn store but wasn't able to make an appointment before I left. Well, I walked in and was greeted by Terry who was amazing! She made suggestions and helped me choose colors and fabrics for my shades. I walked out with samples and figured it would take forever to get things rolling. Well, the measurements were taken the same week I returned home, the shades arrived at my home in a couple of weeks, and they were promptly installed.Terry kept in touch throughout the entire process. I emailed her constantly, and she patiently dealt with my crazy. Well, I have now have 10 beautiful roller shades with valances. I am extremely satisfied with the end product, the level of service, and the attention to detail the Shade Store provided me. They even took the measurements for the side lights that I will be adding privacy shades to in the near future. Great experience from beginning to end. read more

I contacted The Shade Store for automatic roller shades and drapes for 3, 2-story windows. The representative (Kosandra) called me within minutes- I explained what I was looking for and sent her photos of the room, she said she would call me back and did not. I then received an email to schedule a measurement, so I called to confirm they know it's a 2-story set up, she confirmed they did. I scheduled the earliest available measurement time and waited 13 days. On the day of measurement the Technician showed up and said he did not bring a large enough ladder, or a second Technician, so he couldn't do my measurements. I mentioned that I sent photos and reiterated that this was a double story request; he said the Representative (Kosandra) did not attach the proper paperwork to my order. He went on to say he had the next 4 hours of his day open and that Kosandra would be calling me to send two people back same day. Needless to say, I didn't hear from anyone for 5 more days, so I emailed Kosandra requesting an update and she called me the follow day to say they do not do 2-story windows... this company wasted over 3 weeks of my time despite knowing they couldn't provide the measurement and installation I made very clear I needed in the beginning. STEER CLEAR, they are not reputable. read more

This is the absolute WORST business I have ever encountered. I would give the a 0 if it was an option. I do not recommend going to this store at all. I could write a novel about the horrific experiences I had with these people but have better things to do with my time. It stresses me just thinking about it. Bottom line is, in summary, the floor people know NOTHING about the products they sell, they have no ambition and the customer service couldn't get worse, they completely messed up my order and take no responsibility for their incompetent actions. In addition to that, they are extremely rude....the lady literally laughed in my face when I expressed my dissatisfaction. I had to pay 100% upfront ($2,000), they shipped my shades to the wrong house the first time (NO ONE knew where my shades were), when I finally received them they were made incorrectly, the second time round they were made incorrectly and had to be sent back, I had to send out-of-town guests to DC for the day (huge inconvenience and I was completely humiliated) so they could install the shades. After doing so, the installer said they put the wrong brackets on the shades and asked ME to ship them back for the 3rd time. They have to be kidding! ME, ship them back? After 3 months of extreme stress, I finally gave up and demanded a refund. It has now been over 6 months and I received 3 emails yesterday telling me my shades are being remade and will be shipped when completed. Hahaha.....what is that about? This company is the most disorganized mess I have ever seen in my life!!!! I went to Next Day Blinds and in one visit purchased exactly what I wanted and all was in place and pleasant the first time round. read more

I went to the store to get consultation and select the fabric for install 4 windows they have very nice selection and good fabric but after estimate with installation cost I am shocked I have no idea this will be this pricy it come to 24k ( that price after 20% off, mean nearly 30k before ) for all 4 windows treatment the width 102" which is not thing special ( I want sheer and luxe linen for double drapery ) sadly I can not afford it, will keep shopping around in the rang I can afford , feel like it way over price. read more

On 06/11 we paid in full for two expensive motorized blinds for our condo at the Alexandria, Old Town store. One shade came with a defect. It has a horizontal seam in the middle of the shade and looks horrible and is inoperable. Below is my experience: 1. The measurement consultant was professional and courteous; 2. The installer, however was another story. He mounted the 2ndwindow brackets crooked, ¼" off and angled. The screws on all brackets are showing and appear to not be in all the way. 3 - There are paint chunks missing where his drill handle hit the paint, and fingerprints all over the wall and windows The installation was on 7/2/2021. We notified the store on the same day about the defective shade and the problems, as did the installer. We still haven't heard from customer support, neither via email or phone. We contacted the store a few times, and all they could tell us is it's in the support order. Unfortunately, as of today, we have not hard back on the status from the customer support. We feel that the store and the customer care should communicate. read more

I can't say enough good things about Teresa at this Shade Store in Alexandria. We originally picked out window treatments in a fabric I thought would be perfect in our condo. Unfortunately after the fabric arrived and after repeated attempts to remove all the wrinkles (and I mean 3/4 tries) they still looked terrible and definitely didn't look like they were professionally done. At the end of my wits I went back to Teresa and she calmly assured me that she would do whatever it takes to rectify the problem until we were completely happy. We started all over. Picked new fabric and design. NOW they are perfect and we love them. Teresa is a saint because I'm sure I would not have the patience to deal with me considering the state I was in at the time. She went above and beyond the call of duty and we are forever grateful for all her help and expertise. If you need shades/blinds do not hesitate to go to this store and ask for Teresa. On the recommendation of two different friends, I ordered shades through the Burlington MA store for a second home we were renovating in Richmond VA. The staff in the Burlington store were knowledgable, patient, professional and made the process very easy. The Burlington store handled coordinating measuring, delivering and installing the shades with a Virginia Shade Store... with not one misstep. We were especially impressed with Jon Winkler, who measured and installed our shades. Jon demonstrated a level of competency that is notable when you see it.
