So driving into Orillia to do a job we pass by this place that wasn't open called "The Shack" and man did it appear as one. After finishing up mid afternoon it's time to grab some food so looking at ratings on here and elsewhere I see "The Shack" has a decent rating vs how many people have had it. Ok, why not... I'm willing to give places a try. Although there isn't any place to eat inside it was a nice day and they have some tables outside so we order. I ordered the jerk chicken and about 5 minutes in the cook/owner says it doesn't look how he expects and that he doesn't want to serve it(thanks for the honesty!) and recommends the ribs instead so I go for those. They are quite nice and well cooked bbq short ribs. The jerk I was told is only mildly spicy anyway so no loss there since I like the traditional way. The two sides I got, roasted potatoes with very garlicky garlic sauce was good but I could tell they were day old. The other was corn bread and it was nicely done as well. While everything was made the day before it was still quite good, fresh would have been great but it's worth going here. My wife got the smoked chicken and said it was very good as well and it tasted good all throughout rather than just the skin. Great corner BBQ spot. Locally owned and operated. Great BBQ Chicken / Jerk Chicken Mac and Cheese was so go I went for seconds. BBQ sauce is southern style. Not out of a jar. Reasonably priced and great food. Pull over and grab a meal. read more

Definitely a shack. Don't judge the food it's cover. The coleslaw, garlic mashed, and Mac and cheese sides were amazing! The pulled pork was okay and I enjoyed it. The coleslaw definitely complimented the pulled pork. Didn't get to try the ribs or jerk chicken but it sounds like it was amazing considering it was sold out at the time we went. Worth the time to check out! There are a couple seats available in the seating area outside for you to enjoy your food right after getting it. Their parking lot is quite small so please plan ahead! read more

Honestly really good! They have meat smoking outside at the front of the restaurant. The ribs were really tender and flavourful. Definitely has that smoked texture, similar to smoked meat sandwiches, that you would expect, but usually never see in most places. The owner recommended pulled chicken, but they were already sold out. They were actually just about sold out of a lot of items after lunch. So don't expect a full menu if you're there late. Just fabulous food! Don't let the judge by the cover .. Though the furnishings are simple and some might describe it as a "hole in the wall" kinda place, all the food was DELICIOUS! Our family had the pork and rib platter and chicken platter. The meat was all well done, flavourful and the sides were well seasoned(roast potatoes, mashed taters,rice and slaw). The sauces were yummy good. Simply mouth watering home cooking comfort food. What's more the owners were friendly and gave excellent service! Don't miss out on this great find. What a fun place! Small and just off the road but well worth the stop. The guys are friendly and helpful with 'first timers'. First time trying this place and WOW! What a hidden gem! If you're looking for authentic and tasty bbq then this is the spot. We had two meat platter with mouthwatering sides. We ordered the smoked chicken with rice and roasted potatoes as well as pulled pork with Mac n cheese and coleslaw. Our fav sides were the mac n cheese and the roasted potatoes. We don't usually order smoked chicken because it can very dry, but this place has it nailed down - it was moist and flavourful. Can't wait to go back for more! read more

Had a great lunch here today and I highly recommend this hidden gem. We tried the smoked pulled chicken and smoked brisket sandwiches with dirty rice and roast potatoes. Portions were more than generous and EXTREMELY tasty! The owner was also happy to give me smoking tips for those that use home smokers, it's a bonus. The meat is freshly smoked on Traeger smokers outside and different BBQ sauces are available depending in your need for heat. All in all, a visit here is very worthwhile if you love Texas BBQ smoked meats. read more

Really cute spot with delicious food for a good price! I got the ribs with rice and slaw and it was really tasty, the ribs were tender and sauce was delicious. Scrumpdillycious! Orillia's newest gem. We've tried most of the items on their menu at this point, and we love them all. The chicken, beef and pulled pork are always perfect! The owner cooks for the day in the morning and serve until they sell out. You can expect freshness and flavour each time.
