We tried Big Bone BBQ tonight after a friend recommended it, and we are very happy that we went! The restaurant was air conditioned, clean, and had a cozy wing pub type vibe. the server was friendly, and quick to take our order. We tried the "A la carte" 1/2 lb pulled pork and the 1 lb of wings. They arrived quickly to our table, piping hot and sauced perfectly. There is ample parking, and both booths and table seating. I highly recommend this gem! read more

This establishment is one of my favourite places to order food from in Barrie. The food is delicious and there is no shortage of it. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. There is nothing I would do change on the menu except for the coleslaw- it is a little bit dry at times and can take away from the overall impression of a good meal. We have ordered from Big Bone for dinner and for family dinners and always been very happy with the taste and quality of the meal. Dropped by on a busy Sunday for lunch, on our way back to Toronto. I was surprised to see only one person at the front playing hostess and server for a full dining room... but she did a stellar job looking after all the tables! Our order came out quickly and she came by to check on us a few times - she was just great! Food wise, some things were better than others. They were out of brisket, which was kind of disappointing. The wings were very good with a quite a few sauce options on the menu... but the crispy fries were my favourite. The ribs were meh in my opinion... I just did't love them. I wish they had some sauce on the table, maybe even a hot sauce? Overall, great BBQ joint! and i'll have to come back to try the brisket and pulled pork next time I am around Barrie. read more

I'm giving a two star because the food is actually pretty good tasting. Recently got a party package from here and over half of the people who ate it got sick! I'm not sure what they are using now In the meat to tenderize it or clean it but it made over half of the people who ate it run for the bathroom a few hours after digestion occurred. I've been here a year back and the food was fine great atmosphere, friendly customer service and tasty. But this scared me and the rest of the group from eating here again because of this incident. Just delicious! Come by this place if you're looking for great food at a GREAT price! We both got the single wings (that came with fries) and it was amazing! Big juicy battered wings with your choice of TONS of sauces! Each plate comes with a pile of crispy coated fries for less then $12 before tax! The single wings would probably be enough for two people! Each table comes with its own paper towel roll and wet naps, you're gonna need them! A very good place for pulled pork and BBQ in general. The smoked wings were very tasty. The smokiness of the wings combined with there BBQ sauce was very tasty. The pulled pork was very good as well but a little over sauced for my liking. I do like to get a sense of the pulled pork and then let me the diner decide on how much sauce. The brisket was tender as well, but again too much sauce. The meat was good, so they need to dial back on the BBQ sauce and let the diner add as they desire. Had the pulled brisket sandwich and fries. The pulled brisket sandwich was very large and the bbq sauce was also very good. Not much smoke flavour, but that suits me fine. It's too thick to pick up. Enjoyed 10/10! Fries were fantastic. Crispy, and plentiful. Came with two sides - brown beers and coleslaw. The beans tasted great but I found the sauce a little thin and the coleslaw was dried out on top like they prefilled the containers days before and put in the cooler. On top of that the sides come in those little plastic cups you get blue cheese dressing in with a pound of wings. Pretty measly compared to the large portions of the rest of the dish. Regardless, it was very filling. Lastly, the waitress could be a little more personable. She might have been having a rough day (but we were the only customers for lunch). And the floors were slippery (but dry?) from front door to the washrooms. And being the first customers of the day seeing French fries on the floor already seems odd. read more

You can smell the BBQ from the parking lot. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, it was great. Nice portion of pork, nice flavour. It came with a ton of fries, coleslaw and beans. My gf ordered a pound of Hot Creamy Parm wings. They didn't last too long. No complaints. Definitely will come back. read more

Ridiculous BBQ, best I have ever had. Who would have thought in Barrie Ontario. Yes they fixed the fries, they are A1. I had their recommended smoked wings they were good, but their smoked ribs were spectacular. Unlike most other places they were not drenched in a sweet sauce. It's the real deal. Big Bone BBQ is a big disappointment. I was not impressed with the claims to fame of this place. Came in with high expectations based on the reviews and the awards from BBQ competitions. I ordered the wings as they state on the menu in their signature style of cooking. They were supposed to be smoked and then finished on the grill. They were more like burnt on the grill, which over powered any smoked flavor and signature BBQ Sauce. I had the taste of charcoal in my mouth the rest of the day. The fires were from frozen. Again I'm sure they were McCain breaded fries you can get anywhere. Really if you're going to go through all that hype about awards for BBQ and signature sauce and all of that, why not do fresh cut fries? On a positive note, the girls ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork was very nice, the corn bread was OK. The coleslaw was very poor tasting. I'm sure the cabbage got frozen in the fridge by mistake. The beans were from a can. (If they were not, then they were exactly like those from a can) Service was good and for a rock n' roll type BBQ dinner, the music was perfect. The place was nice. For those of you who follow my reviews, you know I don't give out 5 star ratings very often. This place gets one. From the moment you walk in, the smell of the smoke hits you and starts up your salivary glands. :) I was there for lunch with a friend, my mom and my sister. We started with the Pig Skins, potato skins loaded with pulled pork and cheese. Wow. I need to let my local bbq joint out in Vancouver know about these. I'd order these every time.The pork had caramelized in places... So very good. My friend and my sister both had the brisket sandwich (very tasty and tender brisket tossed with their signature bbq sauce), Mom had the Black Angus burger, and I had the Big Bone Combo ( 1/2 rack of ribs with 1 lb of smoked wings with signature sauce). Holy doodle! The smell coming off my plate when the server set it down was simply amazing. You could smell the pork and sauce, but the predominant smell was smoke. Delicious, delicious smoky goodness. From best to least on my plate: wings- some of the best I've ever had taste-wise ribs- tender and pulled off the bone cleanly - perfectly done fries- best I've had in a long time, coated and crispy beans- quite tasty. Had bacon in them but could have used some of their delicious pulled pork in there corn bread- sliced from a loaf. Nice taste, but I found it a little dry. Dipped nicely in the beans and the extra sauce I had though coleslaw- pretty standard for a BBQ joint (read: rather bland) Service was great as well. The server came to our table several times to ask if we needed anything. The next time I'm in Barrie to visit my family, I'm definitely going to make it a point to get back here. read more

From the moment you walk in you know you've made the right choice. The smell of smoked meat hits you right at the entrance. We came here for late lunch/early dinner and left extremely full. Had the #2 platter with ribs & wings and the portion size was more than enough for 2 people. The house BBQ sauce on the ribs was outstanding and the garlic Parmesan, Alabama slammer wing sauces were incredible! Like pulled pork or something smoky to go with the rest of the meal. The burger itself was delicious. Very moist and a big portion. Would have liked their signature sauce on it instead of the ketchup and mustard. Next time I'm in and if I get the burger, I need to remember to make the substitution. The portions at the restaurant are very large. Frozen fries, coleslaw did not have any flavour, the beans were good. Ribs are good, wings come in a lot of flavours and the pulled pork is good - the sandwich is massive. No brisket when we were here. It's a funny space - they could have more tables. Had a meeting today in Good ol Barrie Ontario today and had been wanting to hit up this place for a few weeks now. I arrived at Big Bone at about 1p.m, opened the car and was immediately taken with that familiar smell of BBQ!! MMmmmmmm ...BBQ! Big Bone is a newer(ish) business, they are a group of three (Newmarket,Markham and of course Barrie) I believe I heard the owner say to another table that he had been open for four months, it does have a "newer" feel to it. When I arrived it was half filled and shortly after my arrival filled almost to capacity. I was seated immediately, drink order was taken and menu provided, it was nice to receive quick service as I was in a rush.. I inquired about modifying a menu item and was accommidated with a smile (just didnt want carbs) Seriously this a BBQ joint, I want BBQ'd MEAT! The meal arrived pretty quickly (I ordered the "ELVIS PLATE") 3 ribs half a pound of wings (5) and decent sized pile of pulled pork. I dove right into the "AWARD WINNING" wings.. They were in no doubt the best flavored wings I think I have tasted! a little small but the flavor made up for it! Smoked and sauced perfectly. The ribs (side ribs) were nicely done with a nice basted amount of sauce and a hint of smoke. (I personally would have liked to have had a bit more smoke flavor) but nice quality. Finally the pulled pork... (I consider myself a bit of a pulled pork fanatic, having made tons of it and eaten almost as much) I was slightly disappointed by the pulled pork, I found it missing "BBQ flavor" it had a small amount of char on the outside but lacked that smokiness I have come to be fond of, I found the sauce (vinegary) to be the strongest flavor .. but the pork was very tender and melted in my mouth. I would never eat here again.. I called before arriving to ask for the address. The girl who answered the phone was rude. When I got there I was not greeted at the door I walked to an open table and was told that table is reserved that's why there's a sign says stand and wait.. I then went to the next table.. the restaurant didn't look very appealing, big open space in the middle of the place and only 11 tables.. the waitress was there right away ordered our food, food was quick to arrive.. I ordered buffalo chicken fingers and fries with gravy.. chicken fingers were good. The gravy taste like canned gravy.. my gf ordered ribs and poutine.. the ribs didn't have much sauce and coleslaw was dry. Cornbread is wet and spongey.. the poutine didn't have cheese curds :( they were out of beef brisket(which I really wanted).. we didn't finish our food it was awful .. we waited about 15mins st the table waiting for the bill just to be told oh you have to come to the counter .. horrible experience all around.. wouldn't recommend. read more

We ordered the dinner combo with full rack ribs, pulled pork, cole slaw and fries and between the two of us we had leftovers for four days! This review will not be on the food as we weren't ever served any. We arrived tonight with a party of three and were told there would be a wait for food. When we asked the only server working how long the wait would be, she replied it would be between 20 minutes to over an hour....we decided to sit and hope for the 20 minute wait time. We were sitting at our table for 20 minutes and did not even receive menus and did not even see the server again. In the 20 minutes we waited, we watched 2 other tables of people get up and leave without being served either. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra 35 minutes to the Newmarket Location. My husband and I used to live there and that location has fantastic service and adequate employees working at any given time. I do not blame the server, as she was pleasant. This is 100% the fault of the person who makes the schedule. Maybe the owner should invest in more service staff? read more

Haven't set foot in a wild wing since I was shown this gem a few years back. Best BBQ spot around. It's a regular for us. Pulled pork, ribs and smoked wings...delish! My only critique would be that they need to be more consistant with the amount of wings they give you. Sometimes we will do takeout and have a mountain of wings and other times we open the container and they've hardly given us any. Either way, great food. read more

There's always people who say they know the best barbeque joint in town, unless they are saying Big Bone BBQ they are lying to you. I love barbeque, and have tried ribs in award winning restaurants across Ontario. Nothing comes remotely close to Big Bone. Depending on the night it can be really busy and little bit of a wait. But I know good food is coming so it's not even worth freaking out about. I take everyone I know here to eat dinner and they are always beyond impressed. read more

After running taste tests around town, my family chose Big Bone BBQ to cater dinner for our four-generation family reunion at Southshore Centre. We ordered ribs, wings, pulled pork, beans, cornbread, potato salad, coleslaw, and sauces for dozens of people. Mike delivered the food right on time and with everything really well organized for our two full buffets. (He'd also been great with my many emails, questions and requests over the weeks leading up to the reunion.) I have eaten here on 5 different occasions and the meat (ribs, wings and Pulled pork) quality and taste is always the same.
