Attended Christmas in July function. Disappointed in the food and the fact it had nothing to do with Christmas. read more

There are two things that I really like about this pub, the first being the building that looks…read morelike it has been lifted off of some plantation in Louisiana, and the second is the beer garden (but then I tend to like pubs with beer gardens). Okay, it does have the stock standard pokies room (which I try to ignore as much as possible) but they also have live bands playing, which I hope counters that out (but then again, are there any pubs outside of the city that don't have pokie machines?). I've actually been here a few times, namely because it was on my way from from my parents house (when I used to live here) and being one of the better pubs on the route, I would always stop off, sit in the beer garden, and have a drink. Sometimes I would even bring by Dad (not that he is a big fan of pubs).

I had the beef brisket and It was outstanding! A smokey flavour with a rich sauce. They have removed the use of discounts and no longer a salad bar. No real deserts for kids if they want something simple like icecream, and charged me $4 per scoop in a bowl for it. The have a kids play room equipped with TV, Bean bags, electronic games and drawing area. All in all I am impressed and glad that there is a nice place to eat in the northern suburbs however, not sure if many people around the area can afford the higher prices..

Specials had to be ordered at the bar. Waited inline for 15 minutes. When asking for the roast chicken special. Was informed it was no longer available, no sign on counter to advise. Those who managed to order via the QR me&u app received their order within 30 mins. However, those that ordered at the bar didn't receive their order. After 45 minutes of waiting, we flagged down a server and was advised. 'It's probably on its way', then continued away from the kitchen to clear a table. After 10 mins, that server asked the kitchen. Then, 10 mins later, a manager attended our table and advised that the order had not been finalised due to different ordering methods, and the order will be sorted straight away. We waited another 15 mins and watched as others got their orders with the same meals, these orders weren't bumped. A member of our party went and asked for the entrees at least. Then, 5 minutes later, the food appeared. The 2nd round of drinks ordered by app appeared in different glasses, not the same volume as previous glasses. Food tasted great. I feel the staff require basic hospo training and requirements to meet the basics.

This was one of those pubs that people would always talk about, but I never got around to paying it a visit. Okay, they probably have done it up somewhat since I was much younger, but it still didn't stand out from all the other pubs that I have visited in my time. I did quite like the front bar though, which was on two levels, and the beer garden was quite nice, but I doubt I will be going back here again (though who knows, I might just do that).

Honestly, there really didn't seem to be all that much charm about this place, just crammed into a rather non-descript building. There really isn't a beer garden here as well. Sure, it is a really tacky hotel with over priced drinks and a pretty ordinary restaurant, but I have to say that the vibe was pretty shocking. To describe this place a casual is to give it way too much credit. It is sort of one of those pubs that you would expect a fight to break out any minute, especially during a football match. When I came here the sports bar was packed out, and the only decent place to sit - the veranda out the front, didn't really look all that welcoming. It you are driving down Grand Junction Road and see this place - just drive on, you will be better for it.

Well, okay there was another couple of times, but we didn't actually go into the pub, we just went to the bottle shop and that was to grab some drinks for a party we were attending in the local area (and I have to say that the party was much better than the pubs - but then again the host was well known for throwing really cool parties). Anyway, this is your standard suburban pub, nothing fantastic and nothing that would make you want to flip on the indicator and go inside, even if you were driving straight past it (unless you wanted to go to the drive through bottle shop that is). If you don't live in the area then don't bother. If you do, well don't bother either.

I ordered a lamb shank, which was cooked to absolute perfection and came off the bone nice and easily. The only problem I had was with the parmesan crumb; it was very dry and made the mashed potato inedible because of the crumb being all over it. Overall, this was an amazing experience and I would more than happily return.
