Seriously, you never get honesty on that scale (actually you probably do, but then again I generally don't make a habit of leaving money sitting on the bar - I must have had one of those blank moments). Anyway, this pub is actually nothing all that fantastic, though it is one of the first pubs that you hit when you enter Adelaide along the Port Wakefield Road. Basically it has everything you would expect from your standard pub - pokies, a bistro, and a TAB, as well as an adjoining motel. Still, the honesty of the staff in this place must be applauded.

At the pub, the first night I treated myself to a couple of cocktails. The strawberry Pom sour and the tropical pornstar martini. I loved the fruity flavors of both drinks and would be hard pressed to pick a preference, just get them both! You won't be disappointed. They are a little pricey, but lucky me-I had a two for one offer. In the end I went to the pub all three nights and always enjoyed what I ordered. I only had the cocktails the first night with my special offer because the happy hour for beers and wine is amazing-$6 a drink-you cannot go wrong. I opted for the house white wine which was decent. Regarding food, somehow I ended up down a pumpkin path. I had the wood roasted pumpkin in curry sauce and loved it! Another night I had the pumpkin satay soup of the day, and that was also delicious. Alas, on my third night I had whiting-I think that's a local fish, grilled and it was fantastic. The fish was delicate and perfect with dill sauce. The chips were the nice pub style thick cut, and tasted like fresh potatoes. A little pricey, but it balanced out with the happy hour wine. The portion size of the mains is on the small side, but most likely because we are used to such huge portions that a normal sized portion seems small. The ambiance is classic pub and the service is good. All in all a great establishment to spend some time in.

One of the things that I love about country pubs (though Virginia is technically not really the…read morecountry, but that is another story) is that people are always ready to have a chat with you, and sometimes you get the strangest of stories. One of the guys that is no doubt a regular pointing at the sign hanging on the pub at the bottom of which is a phone number. He actually called that phone number once and discovered that somebody actually answered it, and not just anybody, the person who originally painted the sign. Okay, I don't go around randomly dialling phone numbers (or at least I don't any more) but it was still quite amusing. It's a shame that the place is getting a little run down because that sign certainly needs a good painting (and the guy made a point of that) but it was still a pretty cool pub.
