The Sitting Room provides just that. There are sittings at lunch time, conveniently from 12:30-1:00. There are also later afternoon sittings, and some evening sittings. On Thursday evenings, there are Dharma talks, which impart Buddhist teachings. The room is beautifully appointed and very calming. The retreat/session I went to was called "Waking up to your Life". It was 2.5 hours long and cost $37. It was for beginners and newer students. The setting is beautiful and the people are really nice. We touched upon some powerful meditation methods such as walking meditation and the body scan. However, I think these things really require a much more in-depth approach. I felt we went through them kind of quickly and it was difficult to grasp the meaning and effectiveness of the exercises. If you ever have a chance you might want to read and listen to Jon Kabat-Zinn's "Living the Full Catastrophe". He goes into these practices with considerable detail. One thing I think is really important to mention is that if you are an absolute beginner I don't think this beginner course is right for you. We meditated silently for a considerable amount of time on a couple of occasions and I think this would be very frustrating for someone new. As a beginner I didn't leave the Insight Meditation Center session with an idea on how I could successfully create and maintain a meditation practice. There were no handouts and, although we were told there would be a Q&A session at the end of our meeting, there wasn't time for the class to ask any questions. It is such a nice center and the people were very pleasant. I may visit the website again to check for other offerings.

I am coming up on a year of my sister's passing. She was an Army Veteran and had just turned 31…read more She had her whole life ahead of her and was my best friend . When she passed unexpectedly my whole world flipped upside down. My heart has been broken and certainly will never be the same . I cannot explain the amount of support and healing I have received from this establishment . On the day my sister's headstone came, I plugged my GPS in to head towards the local TJ MAXX for some retail therapy . Instead the GPS brought me to Windsoul. I thought this was pretty cool considering I had spent the night before googling yoga studios to check out. I was sleepless in knowing the next day I was going to see my sister's headstone with the last name ORTIZ on it ... yet for some reason I did not see Windsoul during my google search of local studios... yet there I was :). Gail greeted me with warmth and a genuine purpose to help me with what I needed . She assured me that I was in the right place . That Monday I started my first class with StaceyLynn whom I adore . She has a very upbeat personality and contagious energy. I started to join more classes and learn more about each instructor's style as well as personality , both of which reflect their practice . Gail is organized and intelligent . StaceyLynn is as well, but offers a certain level of spunk . I love Tuesday classes with Julie as well . The team members each offer something special . During this last year I became a certified yoga teacher to strengthen my own practice and utilize as a healing technique for when I work with veterans as a nurse someday (I am currently in school for nursing).
