I am relatively new to meditation and I thought I'd take a course/session at this center. It's the…read morefirst time I meditated with a group. The retreat/session I went to was called "Waking up to your Life". It was 2.5 hours long and cost $37. It was for beginners and newer students. The setting is beautiful and the people are really nice. We touched upon some powerful meditation methods such as walking meditation and the body scan. However, I think these things really require a much more in-depth approach. I felt we went through them kind of quickly and it was difficult to grasp the meaning and effectiveness of the exercises. If you ever have a chance you might want to read and listen to Jon Kabat-Zinn's "Living the Full Catastrophe". He goes into these practices with considerable detail. One thing I think is really important to mention is that if you are an absolute beginner I don't think this beginner course is right for you. We meditated silently for a considerable amount of time on a couple of occasions and I think this would be very frustrating for someone new. As a beginner I didn't leave the Insight Meditation Center session with an idea on how I could successfully create and maintain a meditation practice. There were no handouts and, although we were told there would be a Q&A session at the end of our meeting, there wasn't time for the class to ask any questions. It is such a nice center and the people were very pleasant. I may visit the website again to check for other offerings.

Beautiful facility and location. They also offer many ongoing programs for different levels.read more

222 Community Wellness Center - Massage room with Lin! Amazing!

My boyfriend and I were referred to Lin, the massage therapist, from our innkeeper at Inn Magnolia…read more We were wanting to get some good R & R while away from our weekend get away and that's exactly what we got! Lin is a professionally licensed therapist, and her diplomas decorate the walls in the massage room she used for us. Although we unfortunately couldn't schedule a same-time massage couples session, Lin DID try to arrange it for us, but no such luck. Just for the effort involved, I was pleased! Don't be fooled where the entrance is! It's to the left side of the building! I actually ended up calling Lin because I was that much of a space cadet. She was patient and met us at the front lobby. Since chivalry isn't dead, my babe let me indulge in my session first! Lin even showed us a heated floor yoga room that she invited him to meditate in while I was away; super awesome! Don't be shy! Go to the closet and grab a mat and be one with your breath! The massage: It was nothing short of AMAZING! She is incredibly skilled and worked my troublesome back and tight neck. The hour flew by, like it always does, and Lin was very in-sync as to whether she was applying too much or too little pressure. Be sure to speak up - she encourages it! We would definitely come back in a heartbeat to visit this lovely peaceful haven in this quiet town! CHECK this woman OUT!!!

I have been to the 222 Arts & Wellness Center for a number of different services. Most often I get…read moredeep tissue massage from Lin Chandler (Aspyre Bodyworks) and she is AWESOME. She combines many techniques (I don't know the names of all the styles), definitely deep enough to be therapeutic and solve nasty muscular aches and pains but she also does yummy feel-good relaxation stuff so that you leave the place feeling all floppy and happy. It is not just her technique that does it tho' -- Lin is the most warm, good hearted person you will ever meet and I always look forward to going back. She runs the center with a huge heart and amazing positive energy. I've also attended Margi Green's terrific Relax and Lengthen class, which is a hybrid of her own creative design and a great experience. The center offers all kinds of other services as well, and many community-oriented events, some of which I've attended. The place is always warm and welcoming (and Lin keeps the place in great condition. Her gardens and beautiful too!); I totally recommend checking it out.
