Okay, okay... I get the hype now! I was a huge Foulmouthed Brewery fan -- it was the first brewery I ever visited in Portland years ago. When I heard it was closing, I was devastated... until I found out another brewery was taking its place. Big shoes to fill, but The Send delivered. If you ever went to Foulmouthed, the space will feel familiar. Not much has changed inside (unless my memory is playing tricks on me!), but the food and drink menu is completely different. The Send leans Japanese-inspired, and they nail it. The Knightville IPA is one of the best I've had in a very long time. They also offer canned ciders, a solid sake selection, and wines. The food was just as impressive as their drinks program. There are so many options, from small bites to full entrees. We stuck to appetizers and ordered a few for the table. Everything was delicious, but the okonomiyaki (savory pancake) and curry korokke (like a croquette?) were standouts; hearty, flavorful, and worth every penny at $12 and $11 respectively. I need to go back for an entree, though! Oh, and their onion rings are the best I've had. For three of us, with plenty of apps and 2-3 drinks each, the total pre-tip was $90. Not bad at all, especially for the quality. With so many recent closures in Knightville, The Send is exactly what the neighborhood needed.

Absolutely amazing! We have been wanting go to this spot since it opened and we made it happen. Located right in the waterfront district of South Portland it is very sleek inside! Plus who doesn't love some Godzilla decor!! We went for a late lunch, Bryson the bartender was amazing. Made recommendations, some were ordered and others will be when we return. It is a brewery, I am not a beer drinker but my husband in he had The Ferry Village Stout it has notes of chocolate and coffee, he truly enjoyed it! Thy do have a small variety of hard ciders, seltzers and saki. They also have non alcoholic options and hot tea options. For my gluten free friends, you have options!! The food was so flavorful, shareable menu items were perfect for sharing we got the Japanese onion rings and OH MY GOD! I will order these every day! Perfect crunch not to much batter and onion cooked to perfection! Karaage to share, yes please! The chicken was precisely cooked so moist and the coating was again a perfect crunch! Entrees TonKatsu, delicious! Gyudon.... So flavorful and that egg was cooked to perfection!! We will return 1) because the place is phenomenal and 2) my husband really wants to try their Curry Korokke. It is only served on Fri., Sat., and Sun.

Looooved the Send. Think: a not-casual, not-upscale Japanese restaurant, complete with traditional Japanese food in a large, sun-lit space, known for its beer and Sake juice boxes (yum). All they're missing is a Karaoke night (sign me up). We ordered: the shishito peppers, Tamagoyaki, veggie onigiri, onion rings, miso soup, and a side of pickled veggies, cucumbers, and the sake juice boxes. Everything was great, but could've used a tad more seasoning. What I really wanted to try, but didn't, was the salmon onigiri and Okonomiyaki, and the matcha soft serve. If I drank beer, I would've opted for that, since it seems that's what they're known for. Definitely worth the trip!

Nice and clean beer. There's IPA, stout, amber and pale ale. So happy that they serve Japanese food that own by a Japanese. Japanese never play around with the quality of their drinks / food. There are many options if you don't like beer, they have sake, wine, NA drink. I got a delicious curry croquettes that's excellent. Service is chill, can't complaint. Everybody are so nice

Checked out this new place as we saw it on instagram. The place was packed and every table taken. Small but mighty menu, you will take home left overs. Local brews and fun sake! Cute place and knowledgeable staff.

Stopped in today for a beer to kill some time before heading to the airport. I enjoyed the SOPO-ro lager and my husband had the Sunset Park Amber. Both were solid. Glad we stopped. Good music choices. Chill.

Excellent Japanese food, chill vibes and a few beers. Waiter told me they will add more beers as it goes and that food sells out early in the day

Several more visits since my last review…read more Some things haven't changed: -- The beers are still great. Swish, Here's to Feeling Good All the Time, Nothing Gold, and Reciprocal are a formidable foursome. At any given time, you can usually get at least two, more often three, sometimes all four. -- You'd be hard pressed (pun intended) to find a better smashburger in Portland, but I'd also put it up against any regularly-offered burger I've had in Portland--smashed or otherwise. I love everything about it, from the high caliber of the beef to the fresh pillowy milk bun to the exhilaratingly strong cure of the bacon to the razor-thin cutting of the vegetables to the execution that gets even a smashburger burger juicy. -- I'm still not crazy about the wings. They have a frozen dinner feel to them. A few things, though, have changed: -- Full service now instead of having to order everything at the bar. That's a plus. -- The place is much more crowded-- including screaming tykes-- on the weekends. Not a plus, but can't fault a place for its own popularity. -- The fries are now the industrial strength coated kind. A big minus and a sad drop off from prior greatness, but better that than from an item off the main cast. -- You can now order beer cans to go from the table rather than having to get in line. A nice convenience. A few things to know: -- It's a surprisingly good option for vegetarians and pescatarians. The veggie burger and the grilled fish sandwich are both much more than solid. -- There's outdoor seating in front of the building and also to the right. -- The bar room to the right of the entrance is adults only, so if those screaming tykes get on your nerves, this is the place to be. -- You can still order beer at the bar if that's your preference over table service. Still a favorite, and the combo of beer, food, and space is tough to beat (Mast Landing and Maine Beer in Freeport are also somewhere in that echelon).

This beer release brought my wife and I for our visit today. As an IPA fan I enjoyed this new version very much for its hop saturated citrusy forward taste that drank quite smooth for the 9.5%. At this point now Bissell is broken into two separate parts. The first will be the space welcoming to families and is more of their restaurant style area. Appeared to be a popular area and does offer reservations. My preferred area is the Bissell Garden as they call it. Those entering need to be of drinking age and have more lounge vibes where you order at the bar. It still offers full kitchen menu so is perfect. Particularly my favorite is snagging bar stools to grab some beers and food. I had to try out the Super Swish while my wife grabbed their red ale named Turnpike. Then food wise we split their kitchen special Classic Poutine. Some of the best classic kept simple poutine I have had. The perfect comfort food for yet another cold weather day in Maine. Have been impressed by all the food from Bissell. Truly the only negative still stands being the fact it's on Thompson's Point and required paid parking (not Bissell Brothers call but still). One of the most popular Maine breweries for a reason especially in the IPA game. Give all their other style of beers a try too though, top notch brewery!

Wanted to find a nice kind of hole in the wall beer bar and just happened to walk down this alley…read moreand stumbled upon Mash Tun. I should have just checked on Yelp since one of my Yelp friends gave this five stars! I have to concur because I stopped her with my co-worker and my husband for a couple of beers and have to say two things: 1) they have a great beer list that rotates frequently, 2) the bartenders are top notch. You know sometimes you go to a cool beer place and it seems like the bartenders want to do ANYTHING but actually give you a beer in exchange for cash? This place is the opposite and it's wonderful. Very helpful with the beer list, suggestions, tastes, etc. They are also quick to offer another beer where as some places it seems like pulling teeth to try to get a beverage. It was lively but not slammed when I was there but I can tell these guys would manage great even if the bar was two or three deep with customers. Yeah, I thing the Mash Tun is one of the best beer bars I've been to and in a place like Portland that is in the top echelon of beer cities, that is an achievement to respect.
