I was under the impression haunted houses would not be happening due to COVID this year so when I…read moresaw this, I thought it would be a unique experience. A little bummed when I found out haunted houses in fact were still being put on but oh well. There's a lot of mixed reviews here on prices saying it was extremely expensive, I'm not sure why, our ticket was $40 for the car so $20 each, which is less then your average haunted house. The VIP ticket (which is not worth it) is $60/car. I believe at our showing there was one VIP person who was maybe 300 feet ahead of us. The movie/show they put on is pretty corny and cringe worthy, but I was more there for the scare factor anyways. When we first got there I was bummed because we'd packed the back of the car with blankets and pillows to get cozy like at a regular drive in movie, but you pull in forward and stay in your front seat. I was also hesitant because it was really bright, but they put on a ton of smoke/fog machines so the people do sometimes appear out of nowhere. I thought their costumes were pretty freaky looking in the dark (not sure about quality otherwise), and I think they did a good job splitting up their time spent at each car. That being said I think there were less then 10 cars at my showing (Tuesday 9:10pm), and I could see this being far more difficult then on a busier day. They gave us a good fright a couple times, but nowhere near as scary as a typical haunted house.

We paid $50 for regular admission (VIP is $70 and gets you closer to the screen). Overall, I'm not sure I'd enthusiastically recommend but it was entertaining enough. It's essentially a 30ish minute drive in movie that involves songs and a couple of short horror film clips (seemingly more student produced than Hollywood quality). While that's all going on, there are costumed actors walking around to scare the cars. You can have your windows up and listen via a radio station or keep them down and listen through the speakers. While the films themselves were a bit laughable, the live actors did spook me a couple of times. I read it's ok for families and while I agree that kids won't be super scared, some of the movie content was a little mature (but they did bleep out expletives), so I'm not sure I'd bring young children. This was definitely a sign of the times and probably not something I'd return to, but I'm glad we gave it a shot! We laughed and relaxed in the warm comfort of our car which you can't say the same about those waiting for the haunted house next door.

My friend and I decide to try out a ghost tour while we were in Denver last year and I am so happy…read morewe ended up going with Nightly Spirits! We booked the two and a half hour Ghost Tour and Pub Crawl in the LoDo Neighborhood. This not only meant we got to check out some of the cooler bars in the area, but got to hear their history and hear some pretty spooky stories. We stopped at 5 bars/pubs along with a couple stops on the street in between. The guide was very passionate about the history and stories he was telling. He even dressed up in old-timey clothes to set the mood. If we ever go back to Denver, we definitely plan on booking a different tour through Nightly Spirits!

The guide was named Hailey and she was nice enough, but soon it became apparent that there was too much talking on this tour and not enough action. Every ghost or haunting was connected to the brothel industry or a bar and nothing new has been hsunted over the years. The only truly interesting story was of a photo hanging at the Celtic ( where you spend your first 20 minutes). Nothing can be verified though and these stories all seem to handed down via mouth, rather than paper. Another problem was the tour started in one place, but ended in Union Station and if your visiting for the first time like me, she doesn't tell you how to get back to your car. Hailey is clearly underpaid counting on a $10 bonus from the cheap owners of this national company. The tour starts out boring and never recovers. Also, there are some shameful plugs for restaurants that they want you to eat at after you finish. Secretly paid sponsors.

It's a tiny little exhibit inside a room that you have to walk past to access the restrooms in the Trading Post. There's a lot of great information about John Denver as well as the history of Red Rocks. The room could definitely use some updating as the floors are old and creaky, the exhibit looks worn down, and the room has very poor ventilation and has a strange musty smell. The good part is that it's just a one room exhibit and free to the public! The Trading Post is more of a gift shop, so the Colorado Music Hall of Fame is just a thing on the side.

Do. Not. Go. On. A. Weekend!…read more Yikes! We got in the line at 8pm on a Saturday night and didn't actually go into the haunted house until 11:30pm...3.5 hours?!?!?! Not only was the line moving at a snails pace, but there were times where we were literally standing (or resorted to sitting) in the same block on the sidewalk for 20+ minutes with zero movement. At about 9:30pm, a group of 30 soccer players showed up, went to the VIP line and were in and out within an hour, meanwhile, we had moved approximately 30 feet forward. They say they let in two VIP groups for every one regular, but honestly this simply cannot be the case based on how slow we were moving. We also started timing how much time elapsed between groups and there seemed to by no rhyme or reason, sometimes it was a minute, but twice, it got up to three minutes between groups. I love that they want to give you the experience with just your group, however, to be effective, it really needs to be specific days/timed slots, because we would have 100% turned around and come a different day had someone told us we would be waiting for even over 2 hours. As for the haunted house itself, it's sick, it's really well done and in my opinion, a great level of scare. However, after attending Halloween Horror Nights at LA and Orlando's Universal Studios, where the longest amount of time we ever waited was 2 hours, 3.5 for a standalone is downright ridiculous and significantly played into our overall experience.

It's a free event, operating from late November to New Year's. One of the best aspects is the ability to walk inside the tree which is 39 feet in diameter at the base and accomodates quite a few people. You can lie on the grass and look up at the amazing images which is a surreal experience. The tree was a collaboration between Spain's ILMEX Illumination and Brut Deluxe studio. I have been to Colorado a handful of times but I did not know much about the history of the state. The Center is a great place to get the background you need. While Colorado is a great state to live in, it definitely has a dark history and I think it's important to take time to learn about the past and how this state was established on blood and tears. The exhibits are interesting because it'll go from one to another. Also appreciate the mini Little Saigon exhibit. Overall, it's a nice way to pass time and get your steps in. It's pretty affordable too at $15. It is located in downtown which can be a bummer cause parking can be difficult.

You get to see so much in such a small space that it makes everything more visibly appealing. I love seeing antiques; it makes history come to life. There is also a theater room where they displayed videos of past fires. The bottom floor has an area towards the back where my boys were able to play. This made the trip worthwhile for them. They were able to dress up like firefighters, play on a firetruck, slide down a firepole, and a few other activities. They looked super adorable in the outfits! Of course as a mom, I took plenty of photos. (: Upstairs is a more intimate setting because it has information about past fires, 9/11, and displays of what life as a firefight was like. They also have a play area for kids with toy sand books. This was helpful to keep my boys occupied while I read and explored the museum at my own pace. When we went, it was vacant. I think only 2 other people came after us. I liked the quiet and serenity of everything. The amount of information given wasn't overwhelming. It was a short and sweet museum that we all enjoyed. We spent a total of 1.5 hours there. In addition, the price is extremely reasonable: $10 for adults and $8 for children. If you have kids, this is worth a visit!

We had lots of time to kill before going to the convention center later in the day, so I suggested this museum to my parents when I found it during a random maps search around the city. And to all you parents out there, this museum could save your child's life in the event of a fire. Admission to get in was $9. Getting around the museum is kinda like being in IKEA, where they have footprints on the floor telling you where to go in order. This museum, which is in the shape of an actual fire station and has two floors, shows you the entire history of how and where the 911 dispatch system was first invented, types of firetrucks used over the years, how to dial 911 in case of a fire, where firefighters stay while on the job, and so forth. In the back on the first floor is an educational video of what to do if there's a fire. Upstairs there was so much more, we were shown firefighters' patches from almost every state, which stopped at Pennsylvania for some reason. I guess they're still collecting patches from Rhode Island all the way to Wyoming. I took pics of patches from Kentucky and Massachusetts (where my childhood friend used to live), Maine (where my dad is from), Nevada (where we live), and New Hampshire (where I was born and where my mom is from). It was very interesting seeing all the patches from each county and city in my state of residence. Replicas of dormitories where firefighters stay in while on the job were also shown, which I found very interesting. I took so many pics here but Yelp will only let me add 20 at a time. Don't forget to sign the guestbook upstairs and the survey downstairs before you leave! This was a very educational visit and we're very happy that we got a tour of this museum. If you want something to do in the city, then I suggest visiting the Denver Firefighters Museum!
